I am hoping to get my own computer soon because I have to share the family computer, and it is extremely old and slow. I was hoping you could tell me some good brands that are cheep and reliable?

I like Acer's Espire series, only, I like a moron, got me an Extensia... if you're younger a laptop would prolly be best I think. I heard the old Toshiba's were pretty solid, but I never used them. I double what Rip said, DO NOT get an HP Compaq of any sort: tower, laptop, or media center. They're all horrible, and always have been. Acer's gear is good stuff, and Dell can be sort of nice too, but those are the only two "buy as a whole" companies I can suggest. I suggest Acer most of all right now, as I'm running on an Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop (5 years old now) that still manages to keep up with most modern PCs.

We were contracted for a line of Hewlette-Packard boards. I was in Electronic Test department. Those boards had a 50% irreparable fallout rate. That ought to tell you something about quality. Welcome back! HP Sucks!
