Maybe I'm being overly harsh on Michael Jackson, but I'd prefer to mourn someone who actually did long term good rather than someone who molested small children, lived in a fantasy world, and spent his entire life under a plastic surgeon's scalpel trying to model himself after Peter Pan.
Yikes. Overly harsh is a good way of describing it.

I agree with you on Irwin and also feel he should have got more recognition for what he did, but I think it's a bit unfair to hold Jackson responsible for the idiocy of his fans.

Regarding his obscure lifestyle, I think there was a lot more going on with him than the media cared to report on... His loss of skin pigmentation and apparent cancer would explain his desire to constantly seek plastic surgery and cover up in public, for example. He was also aquitted of the molestation charges and never found guilty, so I also don't think that should be held over his head.

But hey, to each his own...

Far too early. To my knowledge there isn't even a Queen of pop yet. *scratches head*

From what I've discovered, it's either Madonna or Britney Spears.

Aiko, if you think there haven't been snickers and scorn regarding MJ, you should've hung around my workplace yesterday.

I kinda feel bad for Michael Jackson. Never was into his music. But it's clear to me the guy had some serious issues. Whether or not he actually molested children, I don't know, I wasn't there. I happen to think he probably did, but I don't know. Beyond that though, this was a guy who who was shielded by sycophants and parasites who basically kept him in this little bubble, and he was too much of a man-child to really understand what was going on. Every time you see interviews with people who knew him, they all talk about the same thing: he may have been fifty years old, but he was never really an adult. Emotionally and probably to a large extent psychologically, he was still a kid. And he didn't have anyone around him who actually had his best interests at heart. Add to the mix an abusive father, the complete lack of a childhood, and it's not hard to see why he was the way he was.

Okay, so that's my amateur psychoanalysis.

I always liked "Beat It" because Eddie Van Halen played on that song, and I have to admit that I do kinda like "Billie Jean." There's something about being a child of the 80's that just draws me to that song. Other than that, I could care less about his music, so the absolute frenzy of some of these fans just baffles me.

Of course, I'll probably react exactly the same way when someone from Led Zeppelin dies.

I kind of feel bad for Michael Jackson. I didn't listen to his music, except Smooth Criminal, but I know he has a lot of fans who adore and defend him. I will remember Michael Jackson not of what he was accused as, but for one music track that I will remember for ever.

Rest in peace, King of Pop.
