Deadeye '17, eager to move on from the slow-motion train wreck that was last year.

So for those who have may have seen the news, one of the stars of the TV show "Charlie's Angels" and the "King of Pop" have both kicked the bucket today. Farrah Fawcett at last succumbed to cancer, dieing at the age of 62. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson apparently suffered a heart attack, collapsing in his home in LA and was later pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical Center. He was 50 years old. Thoughts on the matter? |

For some reason, this sort of thing doesn't surprise me; because celebrities are all bound to die at one point of time or another. Both Jackson and Farrah appeared to have made their mark, although I honestly don't know much about them to really about how their death might affect the future. Hence, I don't seem to find myself carrying much about this.

"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death." — Monty Oum | |

Same. I'm indifferent. People die all the time. Famous or not, we all look the same when we turn to dust. They're just a bit more fortunate than most since history will remember them... for what it's worth. |

To be entirely honest, I agree; people die all the time, but their deaths will not change much. The day Michael died is not going to mean the tearing of the fabric of reality.

...but with all the Michael Jackson music on the radio for the whole day, I'm tempted to tear the fabric of reality anyway... ugh... |

I'd heard Jackson was severely ill, but nothing about Fawcett. |

I heard the same about Jackson. Something about skin cancer? I thought it would've been that to be honest. EDIT: I just saw on the news random fans bawling their eyes out. Ok, its fine to be sad for your favourite musician (Hell, even I feel a little sympathy, and I hated his music), but damn... I feel slightly sickened with these people. Its almost as bad as Chris Crocker's threat to kill himself if Britney Spears kills herself. This fame worship is growing far too out of hand. Edited by SaintlyTurkey, Jun 26 2009, 09:33 AM.

Wow, getting a tad cynical in your old age? ^_~ Ignoring the last few years, Jackson had touched people he hadn't even met; reshaped, influenced and dominated the music industry and dedicated his entire life to his talent and his fans. A legacy is the closest to immortality we'll ever get... It may seem insignificant when taking the entire universe into consideration, but it's all we have with the restrictions humanity has imposed. I agree that his death means nothing, but his life meant something - which is a lot more than you could say for the thousands who waste their time and end up being little more than numbers. In my opinion, anyway ^^; |

I guess I'm not sympathetic because Michael Jackson will be remembered with hundreds of teary ceremonies when in reality he hardly did anything other than be a successful musician. Granted, he helped break down the black vs. white barriers, but the movement had already begun before his time. He and Janet just kept broaching the subject in their 1980s songs, but after that they just turned into weirdos. On the other hand, a conservation hero's death, Steve Irwin, was met with snickers and scorn, 'getting what's coming to him' attitude. I don't appreciate the hypocrisy. Maybe I'm being overly harsh on Michael Jackson, but I'd prefer to mourn someone who actually did long term good rather than someone who molested small children, lived in a fantasy world, and spent his entire life under a plastic surgeon's scalpel trying to model himself after Peter Pan. |

All I can say is Michael Jackson was struck by a smooth heart attack... |
