There was one thing Kathi had spot on about Doctor Tholburn, and that was how nervous the archaeologist was around so many armed figures, even if one of them was the famous Travis "Deadeye" Clark. When the mercenary called Set asked if anyone had a spare gun, however, Cathy found herself, once again, not surprised. The ammo belts with no machine gun to go with them had struck her as quite odd whe she first laid eyes on the man. "Dude, you're a dumbass," she said in her usual, tact-be-damned manner, then turned about on her heel and walked off to explore the camp. Kathi had wanted to talk to Doctor Tholburn about helping with the investigation of the ruins, but with the redhead Jenosa talking to the archaeologist, Kathi decided she might as well just wait her turn. That time was spent both surveying the campsite (and getting a few looks from some of the guards) and looking to see if her suspicions about her brother worming his way into the expedition were right. A five minute search of the camp revealed nothing about her brother, and so Kathi headed back to the central tent. If Matthew was there, he had probably seen her and hid. Or, he could have been busy doing honest work. Possible, but highly unlikely. If anything, he was probably stashing artifacts on Kathi's ship (which was technically Matthew's anyway). It also confirmed to her that something very valuable had to be buried there, given the number of mercenaries and guards around the site. And that was one of the main things she wanted to talk to Doctor Tholburn about. In those five minutes of searching, the weight of Nox's cargo increased by six kilograms. Once, there was a maiden... ...whose tears of grief nearly drowned the world. So she tore out her heart, and made war against it. In victory, she sealed it in a locket, and trapped in a casting of bronze. "Such is the price of unguarded emotion," she said. | |

Z'Gato grunted, amusingly, at Jenosa's statement. He might still be only a young adult by Chozo standards, but he was far more capable than Ms. Arma was assuming. Far more, indeed. Z'Gato already began scanning the lot of the mercenaries and Hunters in the immediate vicinity using his helmet sensor. He didn't care if some of them noticed or not, he wasn't trying to hack their systems or anything. But a little information went a long way in his field of work. As Jenosa passed to have a 'talk' with the archeologist, Z'Gato chuckled. "Try not to trip over that hair..." he commented, chuckling as if the joke he made was incredibly funny. Meanwhile, when Jenosa poked her head into the tent, Doctor Tholburne made a small shriek in surprise in alarm, and she immediately hid behind a giant man who seemed to be built of pure muscles. Sporting a short, black moustache, the man wasn't protective, but rather, sighed in embarressment. "You'll have to excuse Ms. Tholburne, ma'am...she's...shy," He said, before Doctor Tholburne peaked around the man, her brows furred together. "Am Not! I was just...surprised...that's all," She said, her face filling with blush again. |

Jenosa ignored the bird guy. She had been given a lot of comments about her hair; she was used to it and she learned to ignore it. She also did pride herself for keeping her hair from getting in the way of her work, as well as in good shape while on the job; and even if it got cut up, it was no big deal to her; it just grew back with a vengeance. And she was expecting the Tholburne to squeak in surprise, so that was no big deal; but couldn't help but roll her eyes at her attempt to dodge the fact that she was shy. "Yeah, and I'm just looking friendly so I can suck up to you for better pay," she replied jokingly. "Look, the names Jenosa, and you don't seem like the person who's very used to these kind of situations - with all us gun and knife toting guys here being here and all - but I'd like to at least give you the assurance I’m one of the nicer ones here.” She cracked a smile in good humor, “I know I can’t give you much to assure you about this, but hey, if it does make you feel better, you’re my client and the only way I’m getting paid is from you; well, ok,” she chuckled, “I guess you could say I am here to suck up.” “I really suppose I can’t do much to alleviate you nervousness, though it would be best if you’d try to toughen up just a bit to give a better representation.” She turned around to go outside, but then stopped, turned around, took one of the pens and paper and wrote something on it. “There. If you ever feel you composure breaking up and you not sure how to handle a situation like this, set you comms unit to the frequency I’ve written down. Think of it as a nice ‘help’ line. Now if you don’t mind, I think I’m going to do a little scouting.” With that, she exited the tent. “You surprise me Jenosa; I didn’t think you’d do something like that, although I think it could have been handled better,” Derad commented. “Oh, I know,” she replied in-a-matter-of-fact tone. She looked around for that guy in the GFed armor and was thankful he was still. He seemed friendly enough to work along with. “Hey,” she called over, “hope I’m not interrupting any thoughts. The names Jenosa Arma; I know we don’t know each other much, but I was thinking we could do a little scouting beyond those rocky hills. Like I said, they’re nice hiding spots, good place to see everything, plan, and possibly snipe; I don’t think I need to insult you intelligence in where I’m going with this. And judging by the way you walk with that heavy suit, you could have some strength or speed enhancement. So what do you say, we flank the hill – you take one side I take the other while checking under every rock and bush? Or are you planning to give the good Tholburne your own talk; and ignore the idea that bandits would take advantage of the opportunity while we’re still organizing?” |

Remaining towards the edge of the various groups of hunters as they conversed with one another, readied weapons and generally prepared for whatever work they were being paid to do, Ra did his best not to smirk at the sheer contrast of those who were apparently armatures and clear professionals; sighing as he spotted a man who while carrying a ridiculous number of ammo belts seemed to be armed with nothing but a single combat knife and muttered quietly to himself “what have I gotten myself into.” Scanning through the rest of the group his gaze briefly rested on a birdlike figure wearing heavy armour, while he was certain that he had never encountered such a species face to face, the features of the alien did seem familiar. An alarmed shriek from one of the nearby tents shook him from his thoughts before he could search his memory for any hints as to where he had seen the species before, stepping out of the path of a red headed woman as she left the tent he caught part of what she yelled to one of the other hunters ”… So what do you say, we flank the hill – you take one side I take the other while checking under every rock and bush? Or are you planning to give the good Tholburne your own talk; and ignore the idea that bandits would take advantage of the opportunity while we’re still organizing?” Ra’s shoulders slumped slightly as he heard this, if the dig was already suffering from raiders and so many hunters had been called in to deal with them, then there was a good chance that any tech already unearthed by the dig had either been stolen or destroyed. What’s more is that with so much security he would have little chance to liberate any artifacts found without having to fight his way back to his ship... but if the raiders were forewarned and prepared… “If they are already spying upon us or in sniping positions then any raiders over watching the camp will either bolt or try to shoot you then run long before either you reached their position” he said after the woman “No offence, but do you really think that simply walking towards them is the best idea.” Edited by Shin-Ra, Jul 6 2009, 03:26 AM.

(OOC: Short but sweet.) Jenosa gave a small chuckle; she had been expecting that. "Good, very good," she replied without turning to the new guy. "I know there are competent people I can work with, not saying about you," she said to Travis. "So everyone, think, before we get a bullet in the brain," she said them, in an rushed but almost calm manner; like she was having a normal conversation with them, except she was doing it in a voice low enough for only the new guy and Travis to hear. "Given our nice little scenario, we already know two options are utterly stupid; so what's the third, the fourth, the fifth, hmmm? Stealth? We'd want to sneak up to them, that's for sure, but how? A distraction? A ruse? Make them think we're going to do something else when? C'mon everyone, my brain can only think up ideas so fast. I know some of you might have a funky gizmo that could help us." |

(OOC: Also short.) When Kathi got back to the central tent, Jenosa and Travis Clark had moved away already, and were apparently arguing about what to do to take care of the bandits. Interesting, yes, but not so much to the girl. Taking care to make sure that her guns were hidden behind her back to keep from scaring the archaeologist, Kathi stepped into the tent. "Doctor Tholburn? Would you mind if we talked about what you've been digging up here at this dig site?" Kathi flashed an easy smile. "I may have signed up for defending this area, but believe me when I say that nothing would be more interesting to me right now than figuring out what happened here." |

"Wait... What?" Set looked over to Jenosa, his mouth open in surprise. "S'raiders in the camp? Since when?" He looked around wildly for added effect. Who was this red haired fool, and why was she making demands? She wasn't in charge that was for damn certain. Tholburn was the leader here, and you always do as the leader says... No matter what. "Set? Set!" Rassi was hurrying towards him, Declan waddling behind. "We're going back to Saul's ship. We're not waiting around to be shot!" He passed Set a small slip of folded paper. "Thats a copy of your contract, just give it to Tholburn if you wanna' get payed!" And with that, he was off, running back towards the ship. Declan barely able to keep up. "Who says there're raiders in the camp? Just you?" He walked towards Jenosa, shifting his ammo belts with one hand, the other around the black dagger in his pocket. "Tholburn's the boss here! And I only take orders from the boss!" he pulled the dagger out of his pocket, holding it in front of Jenosa's face. "Only. The. Boss!" He spat through clenched metal teeth, spittle dribbling down his lipless mouth and dripping of his scarred chin. Edited by SaintlyTurkey, Jul 6 2009, 10:15 AM.

(OOC: Sorry for not posting yesterday, work wiped the floor with me) During the breeze of the last few minutes, Travis had been thinking deep in thought. This chozo was certainly not amiable, to be sure. And Tholburn was a bag of nerves, though he did sympathize for her. However, as much as the Chozo apparently had a choleric temperament toward all of them, he had to agree; it would do nobody any good if she were rattled. And if the urgency of the bounty description had been any indicator, there was a good chance more raiders were waiting in the wings right now. Maybe he should also talk to Thol- Hey,” the red-head suddenly called over, stopping his thinking short, “hope I’m not interrupting any thoughts. "I know there are competent people I can work with, not saying about you," she said to Travis. "So everyone, think, before we get a bullet in the brain," given our nice little scenario, we already know two options are utterly stupid; so what's the third, the fourth, the fifth, hmmm? Stealth? I know some of you might have a funky gizmo that could help us." "As a matter, of fact Jenosa, I do have something that could help us..." He said, extending a hand, taking a gentle yet firm grip of Jenosa's hand. "Deadeye Clark, nice to meet you. Now, on the matter of-" "Wait... What?" The ragged gentleman from before cut into the discussion; Travis noticed he was missing his lips. "S'raiders in the camp? Since when?" He watched this man pensively, careful not to be reactionary. The look on his face had him concerned. "Set? Set!" Came yet another man's voice, with somebody waddling behind him. "We're going back to Saul's ship. We're not waiting around to be shot!" He passed Set a small slip of folded paper. "Thats a copy of your contract, just give it to Tholburn if you wanna' get payed!" And sadly, as Travis had feared, the situation elevated. "Who says there're raiders in the camp? Just you?" He walked towards Jenosa, shifting his ammo belts with one hand, the other around something else Travis couldn't see. "Tholburn's the boss here! And I only take orders from the boss!" he pulled the black dagger the esvogg (Travis had quietly scanned the strange entity to learn its identity) had created for him earlier out of his pocket, holding it in front of Jenosa's face. "Only. The. Boss!" "Whoa-whoa-whoa, easy there, buddy." Travis said, moving to wedge himself between the red-head and this over-enthusiastic zealot. He placed his hand on the top of the dagger, attempting to push it down. "You don't need to use that here. C'mon, think about it... have you even taken a look around? This place is perfect for setting up an ambush. You're right, Tholburn IS in charge, but she's not a strategic thinker like us. I think we can all agree on that, right?" |

I know some of you might have a funky gizmo that could help us." Ra paused and very briefly glanced back towards the ships the hunters and other individuals had landed in out from the main encampment, it was more than obvious that a few were armed and sported enough turrets, missile launchers and weapons to have his plan enacted but he doubted that any of their pilots would agree with wasting masses of explosives and ammunition to simply kill a few lookouts. He turned back in time to see another figure wearing a stylized armour shaking Jenosa’s hand and "As a matter, of fact Jenosa, I do have something that could help us... Deadeye Clark, nice to meet you. Now that was a shock, Ra had met an informant who mentioned the ‘famous Travis Clark’ but his description of the hunter’s personality had been rather different from the polite man who now stood greeting the woman. Still, it probably hadn’t helped that the informant in question was a known substance abuser. Hanging back Ra remained silent and waited for the Clark to finish while making notes of the man’s requirement as well as that of Jenosa. Now, on the matter of-" "Wait... What?" The ‘well armed’ man Ra had seen earlier hurried over and as he moved closer began to brandish a knife towards Jenosa’s face, what followed was almost comical as the man began to make threats and Clark attempted to calm him down and convince him to lower his knife. Rolling his eyes Ra reached into his cape, “Would you kindly lower that knife before someone get’s hurt sir,” There was a loud humming as he extended his combat staff and powered it up to it’s low level ‘tazer setting’ “I’m not in the mood to sort out infighting before the enemy is even in sight and I should also point out that if I fire, the ammunition you proudly display will make you go up like a firecracker. Not a very good way to go.” He turned back to Deadeye "sorry mr. Clark, you were saying?" Edited by Shin-Ra, Jul 6 2009, 03:13 PM.

"What the?" Two people had sprung to Jenosa's defence. One of them had pushed the dagger down, the other had a staff or something, and it was making a weird humming noise. Set sighed, and pocketed the dagger. "Look... I'm jus' saying there are more mercs in the camp than us. Who's to say they haven't checked? And more importantly, Tholburn hasn't told us to check. She's the leader, and you do as the leader says, right or wrong." He was feeling damn awkward, exposed like this to people who'd most likely kill him if they weren't following the same orders. Set turned to the first one. The one who'd thrown himself between Set and Jenosa without drawing a weapon. "And, whether or not that dumb cow has tactical smarts or not, it doesn't matter. She's paying you, so you do as she says. Thats how work goes." He took a few step backs, his arms crossed and his eyes towards the tent so he didn't have to meet their gazes. |
