Jidan, although appearing to act as a seperate entity to those around him, was in a manner a subconscious extension of Derad; a fragment or so to speak, of the scientist that had been assimilated by the source. A part that made up Derad.

To a point, it was almost like there were multiple people inside Derad, but in truth, their egos were largely damaged or scattered, with Derad's being the most intact. In a manner of speaking, however, Derad was essentially mult-tasking, subconsciously using these fragmented 'personas' to accomplish the job effectively.

The Jidan persona, in this case, listened to the commotion inside the ruins as everyone entered the hope, and was glad that Mat seemed to keep everything in order. The last thing they need was a debacle, although what concerned him a bit was his sister, Kathi; she didn't seem very stable, although he could Mat was well aware of this. He just hoped that this didn't become a major problem; for both them, and more also, Mat himself.

And jsut as Mat asked him the question about contacting the Federation, Derad was done speaking to Kaviori, and had 'Jidan' look over the rest of the system as he spoke in response. It would certainly be odd how they suddenly started hearing an old, gruff voice instead of a young one. "ANything in terms of getting rid of this man would of our interests, though i'm all for locking him up. My names professeur Derad Aundre," he introduced, "and I apologize for the terrible switch in voice. I'm the A.I. friend of Jenosa Jidan talked about, and Jidan is, well, a kind of...fragment of myself to help multitask."

"But I digress; I just had a conversation with the actual man, and I can see why he's on the Federation's list. I'mk disgusted at how the man simply says he's blasting this place 'just' to dig through, unfoturnately, I have yet to fully understand the communication equipment ssytems here to send out a long distances. What is strange, however, is that somebody else attempted to send out a signal about Kaviori's current whereabouts, and what communications systems I did control I used to boost the signal. Hopefully, the strength of it will at least allow some of the message to break through the Claymore's jamming frequencies."

"For the moment," he almost lamented, "we're on our own. I am esepcially worried of what affect the Claymore's blast might have had to our friends. The sensor's on this system is limited to me due to the protocols used in the ruins, as a couple of other systems."

Derad was especially concerned for Jenosa, who he had not heard from in a while; and also damned himself for letting Blake take her suit, which offered a great deal of protection. With that burning answer on his mind, he asked, concern in her voice, "I suppose you wouldn't happen to know about the others or Jenosa? I haven't he-"

There was a pause before Derad swore. "It looks like through whatever close range sensors I do have access to tell mere there's a sudden number of people on the surface; far to many, in fact. There are also three new ships on the surface. I'm guessing Kaviori has sent a welcoming party for us."

"Blake," he said, "it looks you'll have to help deal with the party instead of going on the ship. Oh, and Jenosa's suit...stays here."

he turned his attention back to Mat, "Any helpful ideas in how to deal with this party while I try to get the rest of the systems active?"
"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."

"Oh boy! Nick Scanlan has a soft spot after all, how quaint!" Faulias laughed. "Look, Nicky. How about... I make you a deal. I'm sure you're aware your bird ain't going anywhere. Neither is mine, and that makes it a little problematic since I have no intentions of dying on this rock."

A million thoughts of crushing the girl in his arms raced through his mind, though he kept himself focused. As much as he wanted to make someone pay for Jenosa's death right then and there, he would need the extra hands to get any kind of ship running long enough to make it into the atmosphere.

He kept his grip tight on Cassie as he inched forward ever so slightly. "So, here's the deal. We take what we both have, put it together, ride to the closest docking bay, and I'll leave." Faulias grinned. "And, in exchange, I won't crush the little girl in my arms."

"If you're a smart man, Nick, you know its worth a shot." He looked down at Cassie, perfectly still in his grasp, and pinched her cheek. "Besides... I'd hate to have to hurt the little one, here. She's so cute... So, if you're up for it, put down the rifle, kick it away, and lets be fucking civil about this."

Contacts, Z'Gato thought to himself as he neared the dig site, using what cover he could to get as close as possible, but the blast from the ship had done most of the work of clearing out most of the debris around the dig site, leaving Z'Gato to hide behind sand dunes and stubborn pieces of building material. But even then, he was probably just now entering their sensor range, and despite his suit's advanced technologies, probably lit up like a lightbulb in a dark room once they locked onto his electrical and heat signature. In short, he wouldn't have the element of surprise, not that he expected to anyway, what with their air support running maneuvers and patrols around the site.

He glanced up at the sky as one of their fighters roared overhead, apparently not yet noticing Z'Gato's position. He grit his teeth together in frustration as he realized that, even if he engaged the enemy landing party now, he'd just become a prime target for their air support, but that was inevitable thanks to the lack of overhead cover in the area. The whole situation pretty much spelled disaster for the Chozo warrior, and yet he refused to let those heretics squander such relics on some misbegotten idea of fortune. The armory within the ruins likely held something far more valuable, especially in the hands of a true Chozo.

What made matters slightly worse was the absence of both Faulias and Travis, which meant Z'Gato was truly on his own. This didn't bother him in the slightest, however, as he had come to rely only on himself and his suit of armor. Relying on other people just led to...complications. Such as Jenosa perishing.

Z'Gato shook his head in order to cast the image of her corpse out of his mind and focus on the task at hand. It was only a matter of time until he was discovered in his current location, and retreat would practically mean suicide at this point. So the only way was forward, and into the actual ruins.

And through that patrol.

"So be it," Z'Gato said aloud, before breaking from cover and opening fire with his arm cannon at the enemy patrol. He would show them the true might of the Chozo.

Tholburne felt incredibly confused at this point, so much so that she sat down on a nearby rock as she tried to absorb what all was going on. Her mind, however, latched onto the first question she knew she might be able to answer.

"I, ah..." She started, looking up at Derad. "I know Jenosa went out to look for those thieves, but I haven't seen her since..." She admitted, her voice trailing off as she started to worry about Jenosa. Sure she was a mercenary, but Jenosa had proven that she was still human, which at this point, was a welcome warmth in Tholburne's mind. However, upon hearing about the party being sent towards the ruins left her heart feeling a painful stab of fear. Surely, if they were discovered by that 'welcoming party', they would be killed!

After Derad spoke with Blake and Mat, Tholburne decided to speak up again.

"I--Is there...anything I can help with...?" She asked, apparent nervousness filling her voice. She didn't want to feel so afraid, and she figured that having something to do would help out with that, but she still trembled at the thought of dieing after everything that had happened so far.

(Light...?)

Travis was now by this point well secured into a sniper's nest on a rock facing, a pair of cross-hairs scouting out the desert sands. That was the nice thing about having a custom weapon; the scope was programmed to interface with his visor, granting him an even greater field of enhanced vision.

And right now, what this was allowing him to see was not making him too happy at all, not in the slightest.

"Wait a minute... that glow... it's a Power Beam! Oh don't tell me..." He said as he crouched down, zooming in a little further oh the flashes of light in the night.

(It's the chozo from before... so he's taking the risk, huh? Foolish... ah well, what else can we do at this point? Kaviori is planning to kill us anyhow, we're of no use to him. We might as well rain on his parade, I'm going to gamble that he won't fire that weapon here again for fear of damaging his quarry...) He thought to himself as he zoomed into the crosshairs.

He could see dark, humanoid shapes moving across the sand toward the bird of war. A patrol unit of considerable size, he presumed. They were probably armed to the teeth, too.

Travis cringed at the thought of somebody like Kaviori possessing chozo tech, but didn't want to see anymore comrades dropping dead today. No, he refused to let it happen again.

He looked into the cross-hairs and moved along the slopes.

------------------------------------

(OOC: Hope you don't mind me taking liberties with this, Jedi, PM me if it's an issue.)

Without so much of a warning or the sound of a gunshot, Z'gato heard the sound of something parting the air zinging right past him. Soon enough, the patrol unit on the ajacent slope -also- heard the sound... and then one of them tripped.

"Walker, you alright?" One of them said as he slowed for just a moment, firing a volley at the black armor and nudging his comrade with a hand. "Walker?"

Walker didn't respond.

The soldier ducked behind a slope and rolled his comrade over only to immediately jump back, a stream of swears escaping his lips.

["Mason, what's wrong?"] It was one of the COs over the radio.

"It-It's Walker, sir! He's been-"

*swip*

There was a soft thud into the sand followed by static of the comm briefly cutting out.

"Walker's been what, Corporal? Corporal? .................. What's going on...? Respond! Corporal!!"

Corporal didn't respond.

------------------------------

Travis looked up from his scope, breathing a sigh of relief. He hadn't lost his namesake. Although he knew there were more coming and likely a fighter or ten on the way. He just hoped Z'gato realized it was a friend helping him.

"That's two who've made a catch with their face... who knows how many more." He mumbled to himself.

Casey squirmed in Faulias's grip as he pinched her cheek. That was too much for her. And for Nick as well. He didn't hear any of what Faulias said; all he saw was a large man on the one hand holding his daughter in a death grip, and on the other hand getting uncomfortably close to her. But before he could react, Casey did the only thing a frightened teenage girl could do when faced with such a situation.

She reached down, grabbed his testicles, and squeezed. And pulled. And twisted.

.......................

Grace scooted away from the holographic image that sat down next to her. Computers, especially sentient computers, made her very nervous. She didn't trust them.

She settled at the very end of the bench with her back nestled up against the wall, then gave Constantine a smug little grin.

"I never said they set the table for him," she said, taking a long drag of her cigarette and blowing smoke rings. "You think Travis would mind stopping for some cigarettes once we get outta here? I'm down to my last three, and that ain't gonna last me this whole trip. And it's only gonna make me even more irritable and annoying, so really, he's kinda only hurting himself if he doesn't."

Raised in a military environment, Faulias was used to pain. All kinds of pain. Unfortunately, his general biology still allowed him to feel all of the... discomfort... associated with a 'tug of the nuts.'

Furious, he slapped Casey's hands away with a grimace, her grip still strong as his groinparts slipped from her hands. With a roar he unfurled his arm, taking a handful of her long hair into his fist as he pulled her in front of him. He held her there for a moment before simply tossing her, by her hair, to her father's feet. "Not as fucking cute anymore," he growled.

It had only taken a second to realize Faulias had thrown away his only protection against having been shot. He was about to lunge at Nick for some chance of attack when he was distracted by a trio of ships, two escorts and a dropship, flying low to the ground right above them. They appeared to be headed toward the now-wrecked archaeological site.

"Shit, that's all we need, more company..." he said aloud. He eyed Nick carefully, to see what his reaction would be, and tried to keep himself ready for anything.

"Well, he didn't take them from you while you were unconscious, did he? Knowing Travis as I do, he will show a degree of mercy to most captives." Constantine nodded in response, running a finger through his beard. "Besides, as long as you are on board he is technically responsible for your well-being. I don't think he will mind, just whatever you do... do not bring up the subject of Jenosa."

He stroked his chin. "But now that you are here, I now know it was either you or your accomplice who shot that probe, so I'm just going to go ahead and say you are an impeccable shot. I'm surprised anybody could see it short of dumb luck."

Casey scampered away as fast as she could. Seeing his opportunity, Nick made his move, pressing the barrel of his assault rifle against Faulias's cheek. He was tempted to pull the trigger right then and there. It was what he rightfully should do. But in the back of his mind, he knew that Faulias was right, as much as he hated to admit it. They weren't getting off this rock without help.

"Apologize to the lady," Nick growled, "and you got yourself a deal."

..........................

"Oh yeah, I'm a great shot," Grace said, her voice brimming with pride in a manner that was at least half-mocking. "I'm a regular Annie Oakley. I bet I'd outshoot Travis any ol' day of the week. Blindfolded, even."

She dragged on her cigarette and blew the smoke out right at Constantine, watching with amusement at how it interfered with the holographic image. It was strange... for an AI, he seemed to have an incredibly short attention span. Any mention of walking into a trap was apparently forgotten. Perhaps he believed her to be bluffing. Perhaps he didn't just take the form of an elderly man and was just as forgetful as his appearance implied. Either way, she wasn't about to press the issue. No, she just sat back and smiled at Constantine, like she knew something that he didn't.

"But onto more pressing- will you please not do that, it's rather annoying...." Contantine muttered as the smoke caused his hologram to flicker. "I do not care much for you or you for me, but you don't have a choice. As I was saying though...."

"Tell me what you know. If you do, I will see if I cannot talk Travis into getting you a nicer meal or a year or two off your sentence. If not, well... if you'd rather enjoy being stuck here on this desert planet because you didn't tell me something which could save Travis, that's fine. After all, the alternative is we both get glassed by Kaviori."

He smirked through his long beard. Constantine was after all old only in guise.

"I mean, considering that Travis is still angry at you, he might not even get you those cigarettes you so cherish. He can make this cell soundproof you know."

"So, what will it be? Help yourself and help Travis, or we both die?"

Faulias smirked as Nick pressed the barrel against his cheek. He chuckled a little bit, especially when asked for an apology. "You want me to say that I'm sorry? Really? If you'll think back, I didn't hurt her a bit until she felt me up." He wanted so badly just to keep talking, to see that anger just barely kept behind the trigger finger fly out of control, but he remembered their predicament.

"...Fine. I formally apologize for my previous actions and assure you that, should you two not try anything funny, it will never happen again." He put his hand over his heart and bowed his head. " I promise. At least, on this trip. Can't guarantee anything past that."
