That's right, you heard me. We get a new Metroid. It's a collaboration between Team Ninja, the people behind DOA and Ninja Gaiden, and Nintendo. The name sounds a little off, it's Metroid: Other M, but if it's as good as it looked, I'll take it. Characters we've seen so far are Samus, Ridley, Adam Malkovich, Mother Brain, Space Pirates, Metroids, a possible X parasite, and a possible Houston. Also announced was Mario Galaxy 2, as well as a more casual adaption of The New Super Mario Bros for the wii, with four player co-op support, and finally... Golden Sun DS. That's right, Golden Sun is back on course for a 2010 release. LINKS: Metroid: Other M Mario Galaxy 2 New Super Mario Bros. Wii Golden Sun DS Discuss amongst yourselves. Other M, hmmmmm? Does this ring any particular bells, anyone, especially considering this is PRE-FUSION, complete with the living Adam Malkovich. Points to those who figure out what this name REALLY means. |

Ooh, yeah, forgot to mention that, guys... Adam's alive and kicking from what I saw, along with a guy wearing blue armor who I can only assume is Houston from the Manga, and in addition, we get to see Gfed planets and cities, along with a heck of a lot of other technology. Apparently, Samus's story is going to get a lot of exploration during this game. |

Got a sneak peak on IGN through the conference feed, but decided to look into the link provided due to laginess. And it's looks F**ing awesome. Here's hoping we got some really good story here along with some good gameplay. |

What, all three Metroid Prime games with the Prime 3 controls, two Mario Galaxies, a solid Zelda title, and Other M not enticing enough? |

Allow me to divulge some of thoughts up the trailer that we all just saw. By the looks of it, this game appears to be very action orientated; much like what I've seen in the Ninja Gaiden series (Though I've never truly played them). Recalling past Metroid Fan complaints, some of us may recount how others got a little annoyed the amount of story put into Fusion; some have been bothered by how short MZM was; etc. But I feel that most of the sequels after the perfect game we cherish - a la Super Metroid - fills a particular niche that brings some diversity into the series. There were obviously Fusion, as some might have actually enjoyed the background story it had explored a bit with Samus; MZM, did also provide more background, but the shortness the game actually contributed to it's replay value. 'Cuz you didn't have to spend so many hours trying to get every single item and feeling frustrated having all your hard worked foiled. It was also most likely a speed runners dream (There's a ton more emphasis on alternate item paths than we've seen in SM). And as I stated in the beginning, it looks like this new one is going to action orientated, and may tone down the puzzle solving aspect we've seen in other installments. I can feel this is going to be a right complaint from a few fans, but to me, this feels like a step in a bold, new direction; once again filling in a niche to further diversify the series. For one, grand puzzle solving has been accomplished and done before by previous games, and I don't think we need to make another; it'll just make the series feel redundant. Having a few puzzle elements would be nice; and it would be great to see the morphball (You can't have a metroid game without that), and have other trademark abilities make an appearance. By large and far, it's looks like speed boost will be finally making it's debut in 3D; so that's definitely taking a step in the right direction for me. ALSO, it's looks like you'll taking advantage of some gritty realism; my favorite example in the video is being able to STUFF YOUR ARMCANNON DOWN AN ENEMY'S THROAT AND FIRE IT. To paraphrase Ben "Yahtzee" from Zero Punctuation, it's like "Being able to decaple a person's childhood memories with a screwdriver. It's always a PLUS." So yeah, it looks like this game will give a ton of life to the metroid universe. I'm looking very forward to the development of this indeed. |
