This thread is to discuss the ongoing events within the RP Resurrection. It is probably one of the more horizontally vast RPs going on right now spanning two or three arcs simultaneously while holding relativity to one another.

This sort of things isn't easy to keep track of, nor is there always going to be "hints" as to what a person should have their character do. It is highly encouraged to take initiative once in a while to keep a plot moving, as the topic starter can't always lead everyone around.

Not everything can be handled in a single post, and not everything can be spotlighted. I may have a rough outline as to where I would like to take this story, but the actions of characters can certainly alter that course. Take some initiative, and if in doubt, PM me if you think your character's action might be harmful.

To use an actual event, I was PM'd by a participant about a course of action he wanted to take. I hadn't spotlighted his character in a while, and when the plot point came up about Ridley seen leaving the SR System, he asked if he could jump on it.

Any further discussion about this RP can be handled here, instead of in the actual RP thread. Discuss possible plans of action, character development, anything. ^_^

Well, the fact that Ridley LEFT SR388 kinda makes things odd, but nonetheless, Z'Gato thought the group would be going there to deal with Ridley, but if he finds out that the beast left the planet, Z'Gato would probably get tunnelvision in his pursuit of the 'demon'.

Everbody funny... now you funny too.

Two points that I would like to make.

First of all, and I know that I am not alone here, I have been growing increasingly frustrated with this RP's sluggish pace. I know that people have other things on the table, and I know that I am not the most reliable person around either, though I've tried to keep up the best I can. Still, one post every two weeks is kind of ridiculous.

Trans, I don't mean to sound like a jackass here, but could you please do a better job of keeping things moving in here? This is your RP, after all, and you're the primary one stalling it. Believe me, I understand how life and work can get in the way. However, I think that a lot can be solved if maybe you scaled back the epic nature of your posts, at least while we're still essentially in the first act (coming from film studies I tend to think in terms of a three-act structure). I know you have to respond to several things in each post, but you shouldn't feel like you have to write a novel for each outing. At least for now, just give us enough to keep things moving.

Second, Nightclaw expressed some concern that his character was being left out of the RP. I don't know if this had been addressed or not, but I thought that it should be brought to your attention, just in case it slipped through the cracks.

First off, as I had posted above in this thread, people are allowed to take some initiative. I can understand wanting the rp-starter moving the plot, but what's to stop say, you for example, from making more than one post between mine?

Anyone can post as much as they want in a thread. I have a general outline planned with maybe a few spaces with "how am I going to get them from point A to point B" stuck in between.

I have no issue with people sending PM or IM and saying "Hey! I have an idea! Would this help?" such as what Scout did by taking some initiative and going to SR388. Sitting back and grumping about lacking inspiration or feeling clueless on what to do next isn't really an excuse, right? We all can figure out a way to progress things.

As far as Nightclaw is concerned, his post in the RP thread (rather than in here where such OOC things are discussed) prompted me to post about initiative in the first place.

He is NOT being intentionally left out. He did say that his character "stepped out" until he is further needed, for one. For two, I just flat out haven't figured out a way to drag him back in. It was his choice (or rather, his character's choice) to step back. Sometimes, people gotta meet me half way.

Speaking of meeting half way, if people posted more often, and not waited on me for things to move forward, this could prove inspiring to change an aspect of where to take things. It's amazing on how much a character could develop from an in-depth conversation, rather than reading about "one person contemplated all this info, then asked one question. The participant answered, contemplated a bunch, now the plot moves."

That's what I'm missing, myself. Conversation. Character interaction. There's been a bit here and there, especially between Narssek and Vega. But the group on the other side of the plot has merely been tagging along and interacting with OA occasionally, while just kinda staring at each other.

I'm not ripping on anyone, I'm just thinking that people in general shouldn't have to rely on one person so much. I can see this happening (and in this example, I'll use names arbitrarily):

Nightclaw was listening to some Daft Punk and was suddenly inspired to take T'kran up to Narssek and told him that he suspected something of the Pirate. Finding Narssek with Vega, he wonders about the human. Then, they get into a conversation, while T'kran is trying to figure out the motives from an objective standpoint. (This is one reason why I wished T'kran and Z'gato was with Narssek on that meeting. It'd give Boss more people to interact with than just me. ^_^ )

(Speaking of, I'm not the only one to interact here, which is why I'm bringing up these points. What does Twilight think of Lorillal? What does Ben think of Jenosa? Just some ideas to post about.)

Aiko gets the wild hair to have Aiko land on the planet and make contact with someone. She has an ace of her own up a sleeve somewhere, and she wants to guarantee her own safety through some means.

The Boss decides that it might be funny or cool to have Gray Fox enter the town and see just what the rest of the pirate crew is up to. What ever happened to that Ki-Hunter, Zik? She might find out just how much of a rag-tag unit Narssek is leading.

All these ideas can lead to insight or development for the characters involved, give ideas for others who might be feeling left out, and doesn't force the rp-starter to feel like the crutch holding everything up.

I'd like to post more often, but quite frankly, I have been feeling like I've been running a little dry on this RP due to lack of inspiration (on top of Real Life that happens, too). I like writing "novel posts" because I want people to be clear with what's going on, the setting, and the plot/actions of the NPCs and others. The last thing I need is for people to feel LOST (as opposed to feeling "put out").

Oh, and one final thought just to be clear on this: Omega isn't completely integral to the plot here. It isn't an RP about him. He's just a character that is involved with it, that's all. That thought may not be completely relevant to what's going on in this discussion, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

I'll be getting to work, now.... but no more whining! ^_^;;;

SUPER SHELL BATTLE MODE 3!

I'm kind of in agreement with trans here. Although the plot has been going slow, I've also been getting tired of writing about Jenosa's contemplations. Addmitedly it's gives insight into her present condition, but i feel I've been going on for quite a while.

This was why i had Jenosa touch Twilight back when they first met. I wanted to get this little spark of interaction going, and I've actually hoped to with several of the other characters. Being able to interact with other characters will make me that feel Jenosa will have more of an integral role in the plot of the RP. Right now, it just feels like I'm tagging along, as transcon pointed out.

I've kind of been hoping that characters might take the initiative to talk to Jenosa, perhaps ask her why a girl like her knows Omega (She looks relatively normal in most eyes, and often has the air of a civilian than an actual bounty hunter. Most people are usually surprised that she is one).

I will admit that I am partial to blame in this whole tanging along experience, as I've probably could have communicated with the RPers themselves. But everyone else is probably to blame as well.

Although, B has been one to make a small conversation with Lorillal (spl?), and it actually made me happy that her character paid some attention me (Kudos to her XD). It was relatively short, but the interaction gave me some wonderful inspiration. In fact, it's make me quite happy when, at the very least, she's mentioned or acknolowledged.

Then again, I could have carried the conversation on more with her, I had thought more. Again, I am part of the group who has been simply "following along."

Overall, I do think we should stop relying on transcon to completely direct the plot. Heck, my RP The Albanoid Faction probably wouldn't have moved much if Aiko and Jefe hadn't been in it, since they played an integral part of the plot. I wasn't in complete control, and i didn't want to be; I've always enjoyed when someone adds there own little niche to the plot. I did help move the gist of it, of course.

So yeah, can we all start thinking about how we can interact with each other than just having out characters, in a sense, "sit on the train ride and simply twiddle their thumbs."
"To look for a shipwreck is at best a crapshoot, and to launch and fund a search, it helps to be the headmaster of the village idiot school or else the kind of stubborn lunatic who tries walk through walls simply because they're in the way. I probably fall in the latter group." - Clive Cussler, The Sea Hunters II

I just _____ in the _____.

Well, my main problem is I don't want to feel like I'm constantly wrenching away the spotlight from everyone, so I try my best to stay as side-characterish as possible.

Okay, there's another potential problem, and it really spans the RPs as a whole. This is only a theory though, so bear with me:

Based on my own feelings, I think that it's entirely possible that we've gotten too paranoid about Godmodding. Anything we do could quite possible cause a negative effect from another RPer, so we do as little as possible outside our own personal bubble that is our character.

Now, what can we really do that can get the attention of other people's characters that doesn't involve touching them or controlling them in any way?

A fine example is falling in love.

Falling in love isn't really Godmodding, many of my characters have fallen in love and, yes, sometimes without the other person's permission. Ask yourself, is that technically Godmodding? If anything, it opens a whole new range of interaction between two characters because you aren't required to react in a certain manner, take Aiko and Ben's relationship for example.

I'm not saying that we should have one big lovey dovey mush pile of characters. I'm just using it as an example of how to apply interaction without godmodding the other person's character into knowing them back.

Some examples of this can include:

Being a fan of Jessie Falcon
Recognizing someone from a news story*
Using Ben's cargo transport services*

The ones marked with the * indicated that you would require something more to keep it from being godmodding.

The news story idea could work in multiple ways. Perhaps Jenosa did an interveiw of what it's like to be a bounty hunter. Unless this actually happened in an RP, it's best if you don't do it, or you ask CEMP if it's okay. You can't just assume she would be interveiwed as this is you forcing Jenosa into doing something without CEMP's permission.

Another method would be using something from an older RP. Let's say we use Albanoid Faction to DI Aiko. At one point they go to a hospital, blow a wall out, and 'kidnap' two of the people there. This is easily going to end up on the news, there's also a chance that a camera caught a quick veiw of them escaping, or they come out with a sketch of Aiko and your character happens to recognize her when they meet Aiko for the first time. This could turn into a conversation.

Using Ben's cargo service as an interaction starter could easily be used for anyone in the crew (Ben, Trisha, Enigma, Lorrilal, Squirt, even Omega was there for a short time). Asking permission for it or not is a very gray area: He does a lot in that line of work. Who's to say he didn't transport something for, say, Z'gato? The more wide the person's line of work is, the more likely you can get away with something like that. You can start with anything from "hey! Aren't you the chick that tried to kill me when I had a bounty on my head?" to "hey! You transported me across the Federation border once! I was in a box, so you didn't know but...heh...good times."

From there the other person could easily go with it and say "yes" or "no, you're mistaken, but". Don't make it that simple of course.

Another idea is that someone could do something that gets attention, even tripping and knocking a bar table over could work. From there your character could help them up and start chatting. The problem with this idea is we have too many characters with the C Plague (Cool, Calm, Collected) that don't give two shits about anyone, whether they're falling over or are drunk.

Character interaction is all really what you make of it. No one is talking to your character? Wha. How about you talk to them? Show everyone what a great writer you are by taking the creative initative, eh? ;)

(hmmm...with some refining, this could make a good writing tip...)

Ceiling Cat is watching you...
