Full name: Xaridan Starbough Professional name; Father Starbough Casual name; Xari, Star Trade (Profession): Priest Race: Elf Age: 127 Height: 5’11” Weight: Skin color: Pale white Eye Color: Grey Hair color (if applicable): Grey-blonde Weapons used: Sheathed spear- functions as staff with a heavy end Skills: Spear and staff combat, wind based combat style Personality: Xaridan is, outwardly, self confident and secure. However, despite all the evidence to the contrary, he still feels unworthy of the winds bounty, and so seeks to earn it through his deeds. Accessories (Extra Hardware and Gadgetry): An air element aligned crystal is concealed beneath the sheath of his spear. Apart from that, his possessions extend to a cloak, a travelling pack with rations, a holy book and a small knife. He possesses a suit of armour and small buckler, but that’s kept locked in a chest at the end of his bed in his personal chambers- a reminder of his old life. Character history: Xaridan was born under a most auspicious sign. He was thought to be destined for a great future in the priesthood. And this delighted his parents. They raised him, from the day he could even comprehend it, in the ways of the wind and its worship. They continually educated and imprinted in him its majesty and glory, and also his destiny in worshipping and following it. He was trained in all the skills necessary to be a great priest, and excelled in them. His knowledge of text and lore was excellent for his age. Then came the day of his ordination- what may had expected to be nothing less than the greatest day of his life. Waiting in the preparation chamber, he had a nervous breakdown. How could he possibly live up to their expectations? How could he possibly do what they wanted him to? How could he be who they wanted him to be? For the lack of an answer, he ran. He ran far away as he could, swift as the wind, and hid. He lived as a traveller for a few years, earning money of his knowledge and wits, but slowly adapted to a mercenary life, learning the arts of the spear and actually gaining quite a reputation as a warrior, though he lived under an assumed name, and all were ignorant of his heritage. He was happy, in an odd way. There were no god’s expectations of him now, only his reputation, and even then it wasn’t vital. He was free. Then came the day everything collapsed. A battle went badly. Then it went catastrophically. Trapped, with no hope of escape, and outnumbered three to one, Xaridan thought the day of his death had come. And then, the wind blew, and all was clear. He saw, and felt, the winds forgiveness, and will for him to survive. And a storm came, so swift and terrible that it decimated the enemy, and on that day he led his allies to victory. Not as a warrior. Not as a mercenary. Not as a commander. He led as a prophet and priest of the wind god. Risen from obscurity, he returned to the monastery his confidence restored, and did long penance, spending many hours relearning old texts, reliving old lessons and increasing his skills. He also took up meditation and martial arts, blending his spear style with the blessings of the wind. On the day of the ordination, he put a seal upon the sheathe of his spear, stating that the blade should never be drawn again. After this, he set out, to meet the destiny long promised him. Notes- Xaridans spears blade has been replaced with a wind empowered crystal, causing the air round the spear to constantly rotate at high speed, both increasing the power of its attacks and meaning that any other than Xaridan has great trouble wielding it. His combat style is a hybrid of staff styles and those based on using weighted polearms such as the Naginata. He fights like a whirlwind, spinning and striking rapidly, making himself harder to hit and making his seemingly random blows harder to dodge. However, despite the power of his swings and swipes, the true power of this style is in the thrust. If he manages to plant a thrust directly in the centre of the chest, or on either of the lungs, the rotation in the air is transferred inside their body, shredding their internals and causing massive damage, though this is a high power move and cannot be used often. One interesting factor of this style is its short range. He always holds the spear two handed, even on thrusts, and so relies on being much closer to an opponent than a normal spear wielder, often confusing and disrupting opponents who were expecting a very different fight. |
