After his first scared reaction, Ryan seemed to calm down as Kathi began to talk to him about his mother, and found himself oddly interested in what she had to say about her, despite her odd expression when she made mention of where they had met. It wasn't often he got to hear of another person's experience in working with her, and he liked to know what tricks she pulled off; and at the moment, it didn't seem like Kathi had any misgivings with his parent. In fact, he couldn't help but chuckle at the mention of her mother saying how "Kathi remind her of herself at a young age."

He was very much relieved that Thorn had put away his weapons as Kathi was. He then raised a brow in response to everything else the investigator had to say, wondering what she was trying to get at, and more over, wanted to learn more about this 'psychotic' behavior - granted, he made a mental note to be on look for purple irises as it was a scary thought that she might go crazy, but...strangely, he thought he had gone a similar situation with "someone screwing' with him.

Finally, he burst out laughing when she made mention of her mother's eye flaring blue like his would. "Oh man, you got lucky; she rarely ever does that at all - you'll notice that it's far more prominent trait with me. I actually ended up scaring her once when my irises first start flaring; ended up scaring her just as it scared me." He cracked a smile back at her, "And by the looks of it, you seemed to have enjoyed working with. I could never imagine what she was like when she was hunting- he made momentary shy face -I was never the type for fighting."

"And yeah, I've inherited a few of her...unique traits, but I also got one she doesn't have. Watch," he spoke enthusiastic, always feeling eager to show off a little to people that knew to expect strange stuff.

He closed his eyes in concentration and turned his attention on this, vibrant, amorphous, awareness that surrounded his physical body like a cloud - it was as though it was this invisible, intangible extension of himself, and in many ways, it was. The funny thing was that when was young, he hadn't been fully aware of this extension - he hadn't been able to see or feel it, and he assumed it did something to avoid blocking out his sixth sense from seeing everything else. It only became apparent when he had gotten frightened and tensed up, this energy becoming tangible upon reaction, as though he was 'flexing' a muscles upon reflex.

And that's what it felt like right now - like he was contracting a limb - as he as he made several, shimmering, red spheres the size of a baseball materialize in front of him, floating; they were accompanied by a buzzing noise, the type you would hear from certain electronic power box, only more amplified. Shortly, they merged together to form a blob before they split into two large segments that quickly became four as they neared Ryan's hands. It almost like watching cells combine and divide, only now, every red red mass began to morph into a solid, geometrical shapes, these ones being a half cylinder.

They combined into two again, forming a full cylinder, each wrapping around Ryan's one of Ryan's hand. They then disappeared entirely and Ryan gave a gasp like he had just been through a sprint - just as he moved them like a muscles, they also acted like one, and his energy bonds often preferred to be hanging 'lose' in the air.

He cracked Kathi wry smile, "My mother's got nothing on me; in which case, I'm curious, how did you enjoy working with her?"

Meanwhile, Stynos shifted his body in what appeared to be a troubled manner. He looked around for a moment, as if trying to find something to say, but remained completely silent; then, he pointed to his fingers, which were about the size of a human arm.

"Umm, Thorn," came Ryan's voice, "if you haven't noticed, but Stynos is troubled by the fact that his fingers may not be...very good for fixing circuitry - as you might guess by the size. If it isn't a problem, I can help fix you, Stynos can vouch for me."

The big robot gave Thorn an affirmed nod.
"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."

The ship appeared in the Blight System to alarms blaring all over the bridge. The Captain screamed out as the ship's autopilot made the ship buck upwards underneath them, "REPORT!!!"

Ensign Susan Munro clutched to her console and tried to read the sensor screen on her station. Pulling herself up to the console, she read it off aloud, "Sir, sensors indicate that we've jumped into close proximity of another ship... they're so close that the autopilot kicked in and changed our course with the ventral emergency thrusters. Sir, sensor are showing that the nearby ship is currently recovering from a power failure."

Brahms steadied himself and sat back in his chair before saying, "Alba, launch the CAP and ready a launch with an engineering detail to render assistance. Tran, see if you can raise them on the radio."

"Aye sir!" both Alba and Tran responded as they set about their orders.

Alba tapped controls on her console, "Launchbay, launch all alert fighters and ready an emergency launch for engineering assistance detail."
Tran keyed a few controls on his station and began transmitting, "Unidentified vessel bearing 340 mark 075, range 40 meters, please respond. This is the UEO Venture DSV, our sensors indicate that your systems have suffered a power failure, do you require assistance?"

<Aye, bridge. Launching alert fighters.> Alba heard reply over her headset. She noticed Austin Tran still transmitting his ID challenge and assistance query.

After several minutes of trying, Tran spoke to the Captain, "Sir, I've had no communications. I'm not getting any radio transmissions at all. I think their systems are underpowered if not overloaded. Recommend sending support."

Brahms nodded, "Noted Tran, thank you. Alba, alert launchbay, send out the rescue launch."

Alba nodded and keyed up her systems, "Launchbay, you are clear to launch the rescue launch at once."

<Roger that bridge, launch SR13 is launching.>

The small rescue launch slid out of the forward ventral bay, silently gliding across the tiny space between the Venture and the unidentified ship. A moment later the rescue launch had located an exterior hatch, and mated her lower hatch to it. The crew equalized the hatch pressure and started trying to open the hatch into the unidentified ship.

Roffel House!

“Shit! Stupid cheap fuses, I didn’t even come close to the stupid maximum output,” Aiko ranted as she and Grifter were suddenly thrown into darkness. Although emergency lights came on in the rest of the ship, the ones in the engine room failed. Well, that at least told her that the fuse was close by. It would be easy enough to fix, but Aiko was pissed that the fuse broke in the first place.

“What goddamn ship even uses fuses anymore? Piece of ancient rusted shit,” she continued ranting as she fumbled blindly, climbing through the mess of wires and equipment to get to the rear of the engine room. Thankfully she had the place memorized and knew exactly where her tools were, otherwise she’d be in an even worse mood.

The backup power kicked on before she could repair the damage, earning another round of curses from her. Fifteen seconds was a ridiculous amount of time for backups to initiate, but this ship was an engineering disaster even with her improvements. For one, it didn’t have double circuits, and the backup power couldn’t run at the same time as the main power or it would fry the electrical systems. Unfortunately, that also meant they had to wait the fifteen seconds it took for the generator to ramp up. It was a ridiculous design and one she constantly told Cottonmouth they had to change. However, changes on that magnitude were expensive, and Cottonmouth wasn’t about to lay up his ship for two weeks to give Aiko the time to make the modifications.

Aiko understood this, but it didn’t keep her from bitching about it.

Then, to make her mood even worse, a proximity alarm began blaring. She was too busy to hear the android’s desperate demands for energy and Grifter knew better than to interrupt her. After five minutes of work, Aiko managed to replace the broken fuse and seal everything up. The only problem was that she couldn’t get the main power source up and running until they turned off the backup power…another fifteen second delay they really couldn’t afford.

She keyed Cottonmouth’s extension on her communicator. “Main power systems are fixed. Let me know when it’s safe to switch.”

She had to climb over the crates and wires again to put her tools away, and this put her next to the android. Aiko actually jumped in surprise away from the thing when it sat up.

"Hello, Aiko. My name is Rose, and it seems I owe you my life," the female greeted.

Aiko’s expression was noticeably sarcastic at that remark, but she was curious. The android must’ve had some power to record data while it was deactivated. There was no other way Aiko could think that an android found floating in space could have known who she was.

“Rose, you’re luckier than a pig in shit that we found you. What in hell were you doing floating around in space?” Aiko asked, never the tactful type.

Thorn fidgeted back and forth uncomfortably. "All I would require would be-be a firm hand to push-sh the speech module back int-to place... ah, alright. Once you are finished with Kathi, I will-ll allow you to have a loo-look."

In truth, he would have much preferred Stynos' large metal fingers to Ryan's fleshy appendages... it was a mechanical bias, as machines were more... precise than humans were in most cases. Such preferences could be found in most machines during examination; a machine, if given a chance to pick their repairer, would choose the more familiar option, which was in most cases mechanical. Thorn just happened to be designed to think a bit more about things than other androids might be.

~

Rose smiled. Aiko's brash attitude humored her, and she was glad that someone so suited had been her repairer, rather than a more lax individual.

"It's a long story, as clichéd as it sounds. Basically, we were on a vessel when there was a critical failure in the hull, I believe from an attack by raiders. We escaped out the breach, not intending to become a prize or captive of some less-than-pleasant individuals."

She looked around. "Although, it looks like this ancient craft isn't in much better shape. Is there any way I can assist?"
"Nothing... a shadow is nothing. It is merely a question not yet answered. We only fear the dark if we have no means of lighting our way.

Death comes to all, Morningstar. The world turns, the dawn comes... and under the light of the sun I shall slay giants."

(OOC: Hope this post works for everyone. I'd been waiting for Saintly Turkey, but it looks like he hasn't been around for about a month. Had to get something down, so here we go.)

"The last known coordinates of your ship would be quite helpful indeed. Perhaps then we will be able to spruce up the accommodations for you." Grifter bristled a bit at the android's description of the Dog as "ancient." She may have been a rustbucket, but she was their rustbucket. And she could take a pounding that would disintegrate a more aesthetically pleasing vessel.

........................

Nearly every monitor and alarm on the bridge was howling like a pack of wolves, leaving the captain nearly dizzy trying to sort everything out. The timing of the Federation ship's arrival could not possibly have been worse, coming right at the moment that the systems were coming back online, overloading the computers with more information than Cottonmouth could make sense of. As a consequence, he didn't notice the rescue bird attached to his hull until they had already been breached.

........................

The captain's voice blared over the speakers, calling his crew to action. Ravage and Scragg didn't need to be told twice. They marched down the corridor girded for battle, grabbing T'Kran along the way.

"Let's go," Scragg barked. "We've been breached. Time for some real action."

The pirate wielded a pair of plasma scythes, one mounted on his right arm and another that was actually attached to his cybernetic left arm. In addition, he had a samurai sword slung across his back and all manner of knives strapped to his person. Yet he did not appear to have any kind of firearm. By contrast, his brother Ravage carried a large machine gun with a bandolier of red-tipped ammunition. He did look a bit strange wearing Dirk's fedora, but nobody was about to tell him that to his face.

"You don't have anything against killing Federation troops, do you?" Ravage asked T'kran.

T'kran certainly hadn't been expecting the power to go out. Having been left with nothing to do by the other Pirates, he'd simply been loitering around the corridors when he was plunged into darkness. "Wha- Oh, right. Someone must have flipped the wrong switch. Second-hand junkship." he grumbled to himself, a twitch of a muscle and nerve signal telling his suit to activate his helmet. In a few moments the visor returned his vision, but bathed it in a pale red glow with readouts and meters cluttering the periphery of his view. Tapping his foot, the HUD came online just in time to see Ravage and Scragg up in his face.

"Breached? Right, right... finally." He didn't waste any time in catching up to the two of them... and boy did he look out of place. Scragg looked like an ax crazy psychopath, and the odd combination of a machinegun and a fedora made Ravage look even stranger. T'kran, with his smooth gray armor and single arm cannon (albeit, one with enough firepower to make a fully grown Warrior Ing back into a corner and whimper) looked rather plain by comparison.

"Federation? Is that who's trying to break in? I don't know about you, but for a dead region of space it's getting damned claustrophobic in my opinion." was his snarky response, his Imperator's segmented casing rotating and opening out several times as he cycled through its firing modes to one that was best suited for piercing Federation armour. The good thing about working as a contract mercenary for the GFed was knowing the ins and outs of their more common technology.

"Can't say that I do have a problem, no." They wouldn't have been able to see it, but he was grinning inside his helmet. Sometimes it felt good to go back to his human-slaughtering roots.

Kathi remembered being impressed the time Jenosa had put out the fires in the camp during the mission at the dig site. Ryan's display absolutely floored her. She was used to dealing with relatively conventional subjects in her line of work. Granted, she did make use of game theroy and other such "out there" tactics in her investigations, but that was all statistical, mathematical, easy to quantify and understand. This was completely different. Kathi knew practically nothing about the way this worked. Hell, if Ryan had an inclination to comit a crime using his abilities, Kathi would have been completely lost on what to do.

"That..." she began, but faltered. Shaking her head, she threw off her jacket, letting it fall in a heap behind her. After collecting herself, she continued. "That...was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. How...how does that work even? I know practically nothing about that kind of stuff. I mean, my brother told me about Darklings and the stuff that had happened with the Falcon case, but..." Kathi paused. There wasn't really much else she could say about that, and Ryan had asked her a question.

"Well, working with your mother was...interesting, to say the least," she said, smiling. "I like the way she operates, really. She does things her own way, which is how I always try to work as well. Of course, seeing as I usually work with police forces, I don't have as much luck doing things my own way. Ultimately, I enjoyed it. Jenosa was a bit of a role model for me, to be honest."

Kathi smirked a little at the exchange between Thorn, Stynos, and Ryan about how to fix the android, and who was going to do it. Yes, it made sense that the android would choose the robot to fix him. No, it did not make sense that Thorn would still choose the robot when it was obviously not equipped to perform precision operations.

As curious as she was about what Ryan's ability was, and how in God's name it worked, she was also getting a little tired of hearing the android stutter. "Go on ahead and see if you can fix Thorn, Ryan. After that, could you explain just what that ability of yours is? I'm really curious about how it works."
Once, there was a maiden...
...whose tears of grief nearly drowned the world.
So she tore out her heart, and made war against it.
In victory, she sealed it in a locket,
and trapped in a casting of bronze.
"Such is the price of unguarded emotion," she said.

"Uh, thanks!" Ryan respond with a deep blush and flare from his eyes. It wasn't often he got that comment, even if he did like to show off his abilities - he just rarely ever got a chance to do and get commented about. Especially from a pretty female who had no idea of the origins of this supernatural abilities.

And he did have to admit, his ability in itself was rather fascinating; especially when he first became aware of the energy surrounding his body, which was during his adolescence - much at the same time his eyes began to flair and the back of his hair began to become blue. It happened by accident, when he involuntarily flexed what felt like a muscle, and surprised quite a few pedestrians; a situation that took him by fright at the time. Thankfully, he managed to make it disappear, even though he had no practice at manipulating it; seeing the image of condensed energy and feeling that metaphysical muscle 'flex' made something in his mind click, and he just knew what to do. In a way, it felt like he had done this before; a sensation that had occured more than once throughout his childhood.

Although, when he got home after that incident, there was something 'different' about this energy from...wherever and whenever he had experienced it before. That was what he found fascinating, even though everything it came from a vague instinct.

Also, during then, his energy appeared as a swarm of shining, blue marbles; unlike now, as they were red and capable of forming more complex shapes.

He chuckled at Kathi's response about his mother, "Wow, I'm surprised to hear that. I honestly never knew what she was like during her work, but it's nice to know you enjoyed. I'll have to ask her about you later." He then opened his mouth excitedly to explain his abilities, which was once again very rare for him to do. "Go on ahead and see if you can fix Thorn, Ryan. After that, could you explain just what that ability of yours is? I'm really curious about how it works."

"Ah, ok," he nodded with enthusiasm. It was funny how Ryan had gone from shy to suddenly enthusiastic and social; once Kathi showed she was friendly enough, Ryan no longer felt afraid to speak his own mind.

He went and bent down behind Thorn to where he pointed towards, seeing and feelings the current of electrical energy flowing through his body. As he did what Thorn told him, "I'm very curious about who built you. You're certainly not an ordinary android by far, especially with your electrical field within your body flows like that of a human. It's quite a feet - oh, I'm sorry," he said to the both Kathi and Thorn, "I can sense and see energy like it were heat almost. A trait I got from my mother - did she ever tell you about them."

He pushed the speech module back into Thorn, and asked, "There, how's that?"

Thorn made a confirmation, and when all was done, Thorn found the big hand of Stynos slap him on the should and give him a thumbs up.

Ryan turned back to Kathi with a wry smile, "Well, now that's fixed up, let me try to satiate your curiosity." He flicked his hand in the air as he looked at, trying to come up with the proper explanation, "I honestly don't know what Darklings are, but what you saw was condensed energy that floats around my body like an aura. The energy we're talking about electrical, yet the fascinating part it doesn't act like it. Most of the electrons, or assuming your knowledge is science is as bad as my mothers, the stuff that makes up electricity, form in a way that almost creates a kind matter, while others conduct through them like ordinary electricity. Don't ask me how that exactly works; I know about it, but it's darn complicated and long."

"But in any case," he continued, "if you have a data base about the creatures in Confederation space, you'd find various species that actually composed of pure, yet solid electrical energy. The electrons I spoke of form a 'core' that helps maintain their actual body; some are more solid than others, while mine on the other hand, can exist in a kind of gaseous state without creating too much static - it took me a while for to keep myself from screwing up electrical equipment. And of course, at my will, I make condense into a solid state."

He gave himself a breather from the explanation for a moment before concluding, "That energy can get disrupted and broken, but the funny thing is, it will always come back after some time. And you know why? Because I'm the 'core' - that's right, as strange as it sounds, the 'core' is made of real flesh and blood and not electricity. I don't know how it works either- and that was the new thing that fascinated him so much -To put it simply, the energy around me is almost like another part of my body, an extension or so to speak; I feel what it feels and it does hurt when it get's disrupted."

"I hope that didn't sound like techno babble to you," he said with a chuckle.
"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. "I... don't know," Rose said quietly, with the hint of a grin at the corners of her artificial lips. "I seem to have forgotten, but it doesn't really matter, does it? You seem to have more important things at hand than where a lowly android came hurtling through space from."

She paused a bit as she stood up, servo motors throughout her body beginning to spin and power her joints after an untold amount of time in dormancy. After a moment, the motors quieted themselves, recalibrated and functioning as designed. Afterward, she looked back to Grifter. "And don't worry about those 'quarters,' Pirate. I'll need to keep close to Aiko here, as I might encounter some quirks in my system as I stay operational... and lets just say I would rather have a... 'woman's touch,' shall we?" She cast an apologetic look at Aiko. Rose didn't like to burden anyone, but it was needed right now.

(OOC: Sorry it was so late. I kinda forgot about Thorn.)

Thorn guided Ryan through the procedure as quickly as he could - partly to get his speech functions online again, and partly to get the man's hands out of his back. As he was operational, it was most uncomfortable.

"I'm very curious about who built you," he said as he followed instruction. "You're certainly not an ordinary android by far, especially with your electrical field within your body flows like that of a human."

Thorn raised a brow at this. "Really? I had-d no idea... I wonder why it's like that... I mean, why-y-y would any hum-uman design an android to be like-"

He was cut off my a loud snap, the sound of Ryan successfully moving the voice module to its original position. As the connection was made, a small jolt of electricity waved through Thorn's body as he yelped.

"WHOOAH!... Huh. That feels much better..." He felt strange, though. This was only one of a few times that he had ever had maintenance by a human outside of the factory from which he was made and lived for a time. To test out the module, he blew raspberries for a few seconds, and recited 'she sells sea shells by the seashore,' five times, as fast as possible. All seemed to be in order.

"There, how's that?" Ryan asked. Thorn nodded at him, then looked at Stynos, whom had just slapped him on the shoulder. "Alright Stynos, you were right... but next time its your turn." He laughed, then listened as Ryan explained his powers.

Commander Jessica Jackson finally kicked the hatch on the unidentified ship open. She shouted loudly through now open hatch, "Attention ship's crew! Federation engineering assistance, we are engineers and we are unarmed. We are boarding with our engineering tools to offer assistance. She looked at her team after a few moments, and motioned them to come ahead. She spoke to the pilot before she left the hatch, "Major, close the launch's hatch behind us. I will raise you on my comm when we're headed back and someone from my team will check in at fifteen minute intervals."

The pilot nodded and flicked a switch as Jackson stepped through the hatch.

Jackson looked around and flicked on her flashlight, sweeping the beam around the compartment looking for the hatch heading farther into the ship. She stepped to the front of the the compartment and pushed the hatch open, again calling out. "Attention! Federation engineering assistance crew. We are unarmed and have our tools to render assistance and can order fabricated parts sent over from our ship if they're needed. Again, we're just unarmed engineers, we're here to help and we're looking for some sign that there is anyone on the ship."
