(OOC: Here I go. Hope I don't screw up!)

While things may have been getting interesting on the observation deck of the GFS Sentinel, the Marines on board were oblivious to the recent developments.

“Are we there yet?”

“We haven’t even jumped yet, you maggots, so quit your bellyaching’ and finish getting all these guns organized,” Sergeant Major Jonathon “JR” Reach ordered to the complaining member of Tango Company.

“Take it easy, Jon,” Marine Corps Captain Matthew Bito calmly suggested to the sergeant major, then sighed. Normally, Tango Company was deployed for covert operations where stealth was the key factor, and as such, usually carried lightweight conventional weapons that accepted flash and sound suppressors. In fact, Matthew had issued orders concerning the type of weapons Tango Company’s Marines were to use a while back. That was before this mission, when the Romeo-Echo-Mike-Foxtrots had ordered the company to carry a full suite of weapons, all the way from 5.56mm COBRA caseless submachine guns to high powered energy rifles and anti-armor weaponry. All of the marines, Matt most of all, had been confused about this, since the mission was, to their understanding, just supposed to be a simple expedition.

After the briefing, the Marines understood why they were packing so many guns in the armory, but they didn’t feel any more at ease. Star systems weren’t supposed to just suddenly go dead. And to make matters worse, JR’s lucky coin had come up tails when he made a flip to predict the outcome of the mission. Matthew himself didn’t buy into the superstition, but he knew most of his troops did.

“Hey watch this!”

Matthew turned toward the source of the voice and saw Lieutenant Nick Barrett twirling his knives for the new recruits of the company, Privates Ryan, Jenkins, and Carmine. He smiled in amusement. The lieutenant was a bit obsessed with his blades, and he always carried at least two perfectly balanced combat knives on his person…and that was outside combat. In combat, he carried at least six at all times, and he kept up a large stock in his weapons locker in case he lost any.

“Jon, make sure everyone’s ready for the minuteman drill,” Matthew ordered his second in command, then headed off to his own cabin. The drill was practice for preparing for battle quickly and efficiently, and would be performed by the enlisted soldiers shortly before the jump. At that moment, however, Matthew had more pressing things to deal with, like calling his stepmother to check the well being of his sister one last time before the ship jumped.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, a brown-haired, blue-eyed caucasian girl who looked to be in her late twenties was walking the corridors of the observation deck onboard the same ship. The name on the back of her jacket, one covered in the forest camo patterns of the 20th century, said she was a Kerri Nisah. She glanced about nervously as she walked. Kerri wasn’t used to all the quick glances she was getting form the military personnel on the ship. She wasn’t very experienced in her newly chosen line of work, having only done a few jobs as an independent contractor so far to keep her brother from finding out, but this was supposed to be an easy mission, just an investigative expedition. If there was one thing she was good at, it was putting two and two together and getting four, and then getting 100, 11, and 10 (the expression of the number 4 in bases 2, 3, and 4, respectively). All the same, yet shown in different ways. Kerri loved dealing with the hard facts of evidence, then creating the uncertainty of theories with them, and using the uncertainty of theories to find out the hard facts of the truth…and, often, a criminal who needed arresting or “liquidation”. She wasn’t sure why the Federation was interested in IC’s for this mission, since they already had Tango Company, probably one of the best groups of Marines they could have, but Kerri wasn’t going to complain about what seemed an easy opportunity to earn some money.

She had already had a remote interview, including a very, very vague briefing, but she still had to meet the Rear Admiral in person for a full briefing about the mission. She was only getting more nervous as she walked along, since she heard to term “Blight system” being used by some of the Marines in the corridor.

Kerri quickly ducked into a bathroom along the way, and pulled a thin syringe filled with a clear liquid out of one of the pockets on her green cargo pants. When she had injected it into her left arm, she flushed the needle down the toilet and carefully slipped the syringe itself into another of her pockets. Kerri then left the bathroom and continued on her way. The news about the android they had found hadn't reached her yet, but it was bound to soon.
Once, there was a maiden...
...whose tears of grief nearly drowned the world.
So she tore out her heart, and made war against it.
In victory, she sealed it in a locket,
and trapped in a casting of bronze.
"Such is the price of unguarded emotion," she said.

While the android was in Stynos's grip, there was a whirring sound from within its mechanisms. Pistons began to pump as his eyes slowly lifted, his slumber coming to an end. His pupils suddenly widened after a few moments, and he pushed himself harshly from Stynos's hold, landing on the floor in a crouched stance before rising up and eyeing both the robot and Ryan. There was a clattering noise as panels on his arms opened up, revealing small energy weapons that were tucked in his circuitry. There were four panels that opened (two on each arm), but the right lower panel seemed to be malfunctioning and unusable.

"Who a-are you and what am-am-am I doing hee-ere?!" The android demanded, his voice skipping like a bad record.

Ryan, through Stynos, was curiously inspecting the android. Ryan seemed to almost become Stynos, for even though the two had their own separate bodies, right now, it seemed like Ryan's soul was inside his companions body. Normally, Ryan and Stynos's emphatic bond would simply allow them to share each other's emotions; although Stynos, from the beginning, never seemed to have emotions, at least by himself. But Ryan could tell through their bond, Stynos's first taste of human emotions came from him; and it had become one of the reasons why he had become so protective of Ryan.

And whenever he wanted to, within a certain range, Ryan could focus his bond with Stynos, enabling him to see and feeling everything that Stynos did. He had no direct control of him, but his curiosity gave his companion curiosity, and through that, Stynos was trying to find out how this android worked.

It was then that both were surprised to feel the potential energy inside the android come to life. To his vision, the dark blue hue, indicating a form of energy, surrounding the android's body became violet, and then quickly teal color, which surprised him a lot. It was a color that he had never seen before; normally a machine had a violet hue about them, indicating electricity flowing with it, and a human would usually be light blue or green (His mother held a very potent, dark green color). It was definitely a unique color that he had never seen before for energy.

He waited to see what would happen, and he was very surprised to see how the android was startled by Stynos. He and Stynos raised their hands in a "Whoa, just calm down there," manner; Ryan didn't want to start a fight, and he gulped as he looked for the right words. Even if they did seem right, there was no telling how this...guy would react.

"Hey hey, calm down, we're not going to hurt you or anything," he spoke a bit nervously, this being his first time talking to an armed android. "Y-you're on board the GFS Sentinel, and we just sort of found you floating in space against the ship. I'm really just a special civilian here to help out with an expedition...the name's Ryan...Ryanchez Arma. The big guy there- he pointed to Stynos, who seemed very defendant of Ryan all of sudden -is...my friend, Stynos. What's your name, and what happened to you? You're not exactly in good shape," he asked politely.

"I... I am XDC Android model 1073M; Project 'Thorn,'" the android replied slowly, still holding its weapons aloft. "The scientists just c-called me Thorn." He lowered his wrists, the panels clacking back into place. "I would tell you ab-bout what happ-pp-ppened, but my speech functions seem to need-d repa-repa-repa-repa---" He began to repeat himself, but quickly smacked himself in the back of the head. "God damn it all! I need to get fixed, is what I meant."

Thorn looked at Ryan with a confused face. "So, y-you're not going to take me back-k to the fact-tory? L-like all the others we've... we've..." He looked around, but became worried, as something was missing. "Where's... please, you h-have to tell me, was ther-rre another Android with me when you f-f-found me? Please!" It was clear he was very anxious.

Both Ryan and Stynos listened intently as one, although Stynos seemed to be still protective of Ryan, putting himself in between Ryan and the Android. And to Ryan, the skipping almost sounded like it was more nervous than rather having a malfunction.

"The scientists just c-called me Thorn."

Scientists...scientists...just called...just called...me...me, those words of Thorn echoed inside of Ryan's mind, and just at the edge of his mind, he could feel...a distant memory. However, it's context, feelings and meaning was distorted like a reflection in the late would be by waves; and the resurgence was only brief enough to disrupt his concentration for a second.

Stynos noticed this and glanced back at him in a concerned manner for a moment. However, this did not stop them from catching wind of everything else Thorn spoke. "Well, I don't think we're going to be taking you..." he noticed the android's strange concern, and he was suddenly surprised by the amount of emotion found in the android. This definitely wasn't an ordinary day.

"I...I," he spoke, unsure of what to say; he didn't want to upset him; but at the same time, he didn't want to lie. And he wasn't very good at lying anyway. "Ummm, no, I didn't see another one with you at all, I - wait, hold the thought."

He opened his comms to Pansy and asked, "Pansy. Hey Pansy, it's Ryan. Look, uhhhh, I got a very worried android with me here, and, uhhh, could you double-check all the scans outside of the ship; you know, in space. Like, would there be another humanoid object floating about check if. Cuz I think our friend over here just lost one of his buddies."

He glanced at Thorn, and was still startled to see such emotions. Strangely, he couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

The potent tang of spirits wafted up to Dirk as he looked down at the bottle. It brought back memories of the church. He remembered stumbling around the pews with a bottle in hand, taking a swig every now and then as he threw the alcohol all over the place, spluttering with maniacal laughter. They were pleasant memories, but pulling anything like that here was bound to get him killed. He looked up at the woman, his gaze subconsciously lingering on her chest a moment before going up to here haggard face.

“I’ll pass lady. I don’t even know what’s in that stuff. Could kill a ‘Freak’ like me. I wouldn’t mind something t’ eat though. Absolutely starving in here” As if on cue his stomach rumbled. He scratched his bandaged stomach absentmindedly, sending the lice living in the bandages scurrying.

“Oh, and can you see about getting my hat back from one of them Zebesians? They probably respect you, seeing as you’re not locked up somewhere and your allowed to drink their stuff. Just tell whoever’s got it to look inside the thing. Probably lots of squatters living in it”

"If you're talking about bugs, I don't think that'll matter much to these guys," Grace said. She closed the door and sat down on the floor, leaning up against the door. "They're like second cousins to them. Kinda like monkeys to us, ya know?"

Grace fired up a cigarette, taking a long, deep drag and exhaling slowly. The little storage room wasn't very well ventilated, so the smoke just hung in the air. "By the way, I'm leaving the door unlocked, but don't think for a second you're going anywhere." She rolled back her right pant leg to reveal a pistol strapped to her ankle. "Now I may not be at my best right now," she said, "and this rocket fuel Ravage claims is booze ain't helping either. But I bet I can still put two bullets in your head before you can even take two steps towards the door."

She smiled at him, but it was more of an I-dare-you-to-try-something smile than anything else. She took another drink from the bottle, trying not to think of how much it burned and really trying to ignore any effect on her stomach. Given how hideous Dirk looked, she didn't think it would take much to make her lose her lunch.

"This system is cursed. Did you know that?"

((Short post, but it's the best I can do until I'm back in the loop))

Cottonmouth and company weren't the only ones aware of their uninvited guests. T'kran had picked up the Pirate flags on his visor as well thanks to his connection to the ship's systems. And he was not happy. He'd already fully activated his armour and was sitting on a bench in the cargo bay, mulling over the situation. He really wanted his ship back. Its cloaking system would have made getting the hell out of this accursed system that much easier.

"No damn way I'm going in a recycling chamber... not after this long." He was still a wanted traitor and criminal in the Legion, his main reason for living off the radar except for necessary, secure connections like the Hunter's Guild. It was probably just as good to them, but he'd go out with a fight. Hell, he was already preparing himself to go on a bloody rampage. Of course, while he was under Cottonmouth's command he wouldn't do a thing unless the situation called for it.

But still... there were very few times the rogue Pirate could be called afraid, and this was one of them. This wasn't a lone ship, it was an entire fleet. Even if he slaughtered the entire crew of one, what would he do then? It seemed like a situation with no good outcome.
"A battle for supremacy against many foes is a battle of the best kind. There are few considerations, only those concerning where to place your next shot. It is war in its purest form." - Commander Karziel, Ultramarines 5th Company

Dirk smiled back at Grace, which in his case meant the holes he used for a mouth widened, revealing his blackend and rotten teeth. He breathed out as well, sending his rotten breath in her face.

"I seriously don' see what harm I could do. I wouldn't harm a fly!" He stepped back to look at the shelves, hoping to find a little food. He was growing ravenously hungry.

He found nothing on the shelves, although there probably was food up there. He just couldn't read the packaging. He did find, among other things, some old bread crusts in his pockets, which he stuffed into his mouth as soon as he found them.

"S'there any food in here? And if there isn't could you go and ask those Zebesians if I could have some? and if I could possibly be let out? I won' get into trouble!"

Ryan listened attentively to what the commander on the other end of the line had to say; and he frowned distinctly at the news. "You sure?" he asked, hoping that they hadn't missed anything.

"Yes, we double check. We're positive there isn't anything else out in space like an android."

"Umm, ok. Thanks," he replied a bit nervously; talking to any of these military people did, in fact; and even more so than when he was talking wih regular civilians. It was like he had a bad experience with military people, but he couldn't recall when and where. It was a sense that irked him, but he ignored; being around people that didn't have an emphatic connection like he did with his mother or Stynos made him nervous. It just made him feel at ease when he could have an understanding of what was going on their head.

And it was the case for Thorn, as he had no idea of how to present the news without...creating a situation. Humans were one thing, but there was no telling what faulty programing could make this android unpredictable - although, he had to admit, despite the vocal problems, the android acted very much like a human; and had the energy flow of one too.

However, it was Stynos that was first to make a 'response.' The big robot hulking over Thorn gave him a silent but rather sorry shrug of his shoulder. This took Ryan by surprise, as Stynos wasn't normally independent in this manner; it seemed had his own sympathy for Thorn's loss.

This strangely made it easier for him to reply. "We're sorry, but they didn't find a trace of another android out in space," he spoke regretfully.
