When Coriues flew a little bit farther into the blight system, he noticed a ship
"Wiz what is that? i thought we were the only ones out here besides the patrol ship."
"it appears to be a rather bland ship sir."
"set up a transmission feed. i want to know why they are here, and if there hostile." Coriues said agitated at not being the only one in the blight system. Coriues then moved a strand of his black hair out of his eyes.

A giant lizard like creature ran through the door into the cockpit.
"hey rex.", Coriues said turning back to his computer screen, running a complete diagnostic to see if the ship could handle a quick fight.The ships fire power was about as good as it's speed, and 'the luna' was one of the fastest ships in the galaxy.

"Sir i was thinking about something." Wiz said worried
"what it is Wiz?"
"well...what if this turns into a fight."
"It won't Wiz, and besides we both know 'the luna' could out run them.",Coriues said trying to fool him self, and Wiz into hopefulness.
"setting up the transmission with the um....salty dog sir.", Wiz said

Ryan gulped anxiously as he was approached by the Sergeant and his two escorts. This was his first time being on a GFed ship, a military of this government that her mother had some trouble with in the past. He heard that things had settled down now, but simply being here was making him antsy. He had no idea how everyone would react to his presence on board, and how he should act. He could tell those two soldiers beside the Sergeant were eyeing Stynos cautiously, like he was a wild beast only just tamed; he even saw their looks through his big 'mechanoid' companion's eyes, whom he called Stynos.

He yelped a little when he saw this and suddenly became exceedingly nervous for a moment. This agitated Stynos, and his companion moved closer to him as if the soldiers were a threat. Ryan felt his reaction in the back of his mind and immediately 'told' him 'silently' - in a way that no one else would hear - to back down; the 'mechanoid' did, though it still seemed a bit concerned.

He took the shook it, feeling a little more at ease with the formal introduction, "Yes," he replied, "that's me."

He followed, and just upon entering the admiral's office, he 'silently told' Stynos to stay outside, knowing it would be rather crowded with him inside. He a bit surprised when his companion understood him, and stood guard outside.

"Just call me Ryan, please," he spoke more confidence than when he met the Sergeant, but still showed a pang of nervousness.

“I have heard that you possess a special sort of power,” Felecia said. “The ability to see or sense energy, right? Don’t worry, I won’t bite.” She flashed a smile.

Ryan took her smile to heart, and relaxed in his seat; though among strangers, he felt he could be open to his...contractors. "Both, actually," he confirmed, "I can both see and sense various forms of energy, including a person's own distinct bio-energy, though I can only sense the their unique signature; sort of like a mix between sensing a noticeable change in temperature and a scent."

He listened to what the Admiral had to brief him on, and he tensed a bit when his mind put together the words 'Blight' and 'unresponsive.' He appeared to ponder everything else she said in a serious but unsure expression, and after a moment, replied with a voice that echoed his fear. "I suppose you could say...that if you don't hear from a colony on a planet that no citizen has ever heard of, it's probably a bad sign." He folded his hands together, as if in greater contemplation, "Normally...I wouldn't like the idea of getting caught in a situation that could suddenly turn bad for any reason. Kind of scary to me, actually," he admitted but then put on a grim smile of enthusiasm, "but...maybe this won't be as bad as I think it is. I do need the money, and it could be worthy while. Sure, consider me interested."

"There is one more thing I'd like to add about myself, just so you know me." He closed his eyes for a moment in concentration, and the air in front of Ryan buzzed with a sound reminiscent to that of high voltage devices (Like the ones you hear in a power plant). Materializing in front of him was a red, 'cloud' about around the size of Ryan's main body. Its shape was similar to a gas cloud, but the texture of it seemed solid and not fuzzy. Its form floated and shimmered like water.

"It's condensed energy," Ryan stated in a matter-of-fact tone, "I have this...stuff made insubstantial around my body, and I can condense it whenever I feel like. I hope this trait doesn't bother you in anyway."
"I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams is something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."

UEO Venture DSV-4800
Bridge

Brahms looked at the main viewscreen at the system his encoded orders referred to as U-1013, his ship's AI told him that the system was unofficially called the Blight System. He saw the deep expanse ahead of his ship and shivered slightly, unaccustomed to seeing so few nearby celestial bodies. He turned to his communications officer, "Mr Tran, see if you can raise our contact in this system, please hail Rear Admiral Felecia Calderon, my orders said we could reach her aboard the GFS Sentinel. However, I'd like you to send out a systemitized hail to any and all ships. Use the wideband."

"Aye sir," Tran said as he keyed up his station, then began speaking into his headset, "Attention, attention, this is the UEO Venture, hailing Rear Admiral Felecia Calderon. Please respond. I say again, UEO Venture Hailing Rear Admiral Felecia Calderon, please respond."

Sixteen Hours Earlier

Captain Tobias Brahms sat in his office aboard the Venture reading flight logs and mission reports from his pilots. A soft chirp came from the communications terminal on his desk, he tapped a button and spoke, "Authorization Brahms Charlie Alpha Sierra 8-1-1-8."

The screen flashed the UEO emblem and began scrolling an encrypted data-link as it connected to a secure transmission from Headquarters. A moment later, Admiral Sharon Young appeared on his screen.

"Good evening Captain, I have a mission for you." she spoke warmly as always.

"Good evening to you too Admiral, what can the Venture and I do for you today?" he asked.

"The Federation is sending a task force to investigate the lack of communications from an established colony in the U-1013 system. We want you to go and assist if at all possible. All we really know if that the Feds have lost contact with a colony in the system, there was a bunch of legal red-tape due to civilian and private industry ownerships in the system. They recently obtained the go-ahead to investigate. We got wind of it through the usual channels between the Feds and our commands, they asked for a liason ship to be sent from us to assist, you were our first pick. You are to go at once to system U-1013 and make contact with Federation Rear Admiral Felecia Caldreon. Assist with the investigation as much as possible, but be wary and make sure you watch out for your ship and crew." she informed him.

"Very good Admiral, it'll take us a while to spool up our jumpdrives to get there, but we should be able to be on site in about half a day or so. We have crew on leave that I'll have to recall as well." he informed her.

"Very good then Captain, good luck, godspeed." He nodded and the screen blinked off suddenly.

(OOC: Meh post.)

Space. The usual old, bleak, empty, space, except for one thing.

Floating through the empty void were two androids, wrapped around each other in a tight hug, what looked like an effort to remain together. One was a male with an armored bodystyle, sporting bold facial features like his chin and nose, with a very muscular appearance to him. The other was a female with long brown 'hair;' in reality, each hair was a pencil-thick wire. She had a perfect hourglass body, moderate breasts, just-right hips, and long, slender legs. Her face was petite in its features. The two of them both had no expression on their faces, and there was no sign of life between them both. Both of their bodies were dented and scarred from numerous hits with debris and rocks, but somehow, they had remained together.

It seems that was not to be, however, as a large asteroid collided with the two, splitting them apart and sending them in separate directions, lifeless and unaware.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alone, the male android drifted still. In view nearby was a government ship, but from the distance he was away, he wouldn't have been able to tell if he was conscious. Eventually, it was clear that the male was on a direct collision course with the ship.
Faculty aboard the GFS Sentinel in the cockpit would be greatly startled, as the android slammed into the viewing window, his mangled limbs wedging into the crannies and grooves of the ship. His emotionless face, devoid of expression, stared inward toward the inhabitants of the vessel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Meanwhile, the female android also drifted through a farther away section of space, her thick hair becoming tangled as she tumbled through debris toward a different ship. The Salty Dog was on a direct path through where she was, and, contrarily to her male counterpart, the ship slammed into her.

Her body skidded down the side of the ship until it hooked on to one of the sensors that guided the Salty Dog, securing her fast to it. The extra metal and electrical material would most likely disrupt any signals that the sensor was responsible for. They would need to retrieve her from it for a proper signal.

Dirk ceased praying, as he felt the pod dock with another ship. The pod had no view ports, but he was unsurprised. God would not punish a devout follower, would he? He got up from his knees, and rested his hands against the door, before scratching at his cankerous cheek. The sores were spreading at an alarming rate, from his dead brother's face, halfway down his arm and up his neck. He'd have to get it looked at sooner or later... Or maybe God would cure him of it.

Dirk was growing impatient waiting. What kind of ship collects an escape pod and leaves it docked? Dirk sucked his rotten teeth in boredom, wincing at the pain. What if it was Saul who had collected the pod, to fill Dirk full of false hope in spite? Dirk sighed and banged his head against the door, just as it opened. He fell, sprawling to the floor. Dirk looked up from the floor, staring straight into a double barrelled shotgun, being wielded by a Space pirate, no less.

"Oh God..." He wheezed as he pulled himself up, all of his eyes (besides his bulging one) closed in fear.

Cottonmouth couldn't help but notice T'kran's mocking tone concerning their weaponry. It was understandable, considering where he had come from, not to mention the fact that he himself was a product of some of the finest technology in the galaxy. But that didn't make it any less ignorant. These human firearms were cheap and relatively primitive, yes, but they got the job done and then some. In fact, the captain was tempted to show T'kran just what a shotgun blast at close range could do, but he quickly brushed that thought aside.

Besides, he had already been privately warned that if he caused any trouble he would be fed to the parasite.

The hatch door slid open, and Dirk came tumbling out. The initial shock of the grotesque creature, clearly human if only by the loosest definition of the word, sprawled on the floor in front of them startled the crew for a moment, but they had seen worse. Much worse. They were all over him without missing a beat.

"On your feet, Abomination!" Cottonmouth hissed, grabbing Dirk by the scruff of the neck and jerking him upright, even as the mutant was already trying to stand up. The captain shoved him aside, and Scragg took ahold of him, holding his plasma scythe to Dirk's neck.

"Cooperate, and we'll let you live," the captain said. "If not, then it's out the airlock you go. Understood?" Cottonmouth turned to his crew. "Take it apart."

Like termites on an oak living room set, the Pirates descended upon the escape pod, as many of them as could fit inside anyway, and began taking it apart piece by piece. Everything from monitors and circuits and wiring to the small engine to even the seat cushions were stripped. Not much to make a profit on, but most of it they could actually use themselves. The water distillery would definitely be useful, and Ravage was already laying claim to the cushions.

With his crew busy dismantling the pod, Cottonmouth turned his attention back to the mutant. He was an ugly thing, to be sure. He reminded the captain of a raid he'd been in in his youth, on a colony of mutated humans. Perhaps this... thing had come from that very colony.

"So, Abomination," Cottonmouth said to Dirk, still held tight in Scragg's grip. The captain's raspy voice no doubt sounded mighty demonic to the God-fearing mutant. "What happened to the ship you came from? Where is it?"

Just then, he was interrupted by Grifter's voice coming over the intercom. It seemed there was some kind of problem.

........................

Grifter had been at the helm while the rest of the crew was manhandling Dirk and tearing his escape pod apart. He didn't need to look at the sensors to know that something was wrong, though. He actually heard the metallic clank as whatever object was out there made impact and latched onto their hull. And then, after he heard the noise, the sensor shorted out. No big deal, really. They ran into debris all the time out here. Still, he got on the intercom to inform the captain. It was an issue that needed resolving, no matter now small.

........................

"You there," Cottonmouth said to T'kran. "I need you to take a walk outside. A piece of space junk has gotten stuck on our hull and it's messing with our sensors. Go check it out. There's some gear in our armory, if you need a suit."

He turned back to Dirk. "Now then, where were we?"

........................

Aiko was just finishing her breakfast when Ravage came into the engine room, a large crate in his arms full of circuits, spare parts, nuts & bolts, and other assorted junk that had been stripped from the escape pod.

"I brought you some toys," the pirate barked as he set the heavy crate down with a thud. Most if it was stuff she could use to make repairs and such, or if not then just to tinker with. After all, tinkering was how ships like these turned from junkers into badass mothers.

"Captain says do what you want with this stuff, as long as you take care of the ship first." Ravage turned to leave, just as another pirate was coming in with a crate full of junk. "By the way, that was just the first box," Ravage said.

T'kran's confidence was overblown, that much was certain. His armour was intended for mobility, not acting as a bullet soak. Once the energy shielding was gone, it wouldn't provide much protection at all against most weaponry, especially the high-powered rounds utilised by Pirate assault cannons. A point-blank shotgun blast would, at the very least, leave him very sore if he was caught with his shields down.

And the knowledge that there was a parasite onboard kept him in line, if nothing else. He'd nearly politely declined a place in the ship's crew when he learned there was an X host travelling with them.

T'kran barely flinched when Dirk fell face-first from the opened pod, regarding the mutant with mild disgust and raising his cannon to point squarely at his chest, prepared to burn a hole in his ribcage at the first sign of trouble. Once you'd gone up against a fully-grown, Phazon-charged Ing and lived to tell the tale, not much startled you.

Watching Cottonmouth when he was distracted, he kept his Imperator trained on Dirk to ensure he didn't try anything, even going so far as to crack his reptilian maw into a wicked, tooth-filled grin at the mutated human. Weapon lowered as the captain addressed him, nodding slowly to the Zebesian. "Don't worry about it, my armour's pressurised." As he said that, the black and crimson plating extended up to cover his head, a narrow, opaque visor obscuring his eyes. With a nod, T'kran was gone.

--------------

Sealing the airlock behind him, T'kran waiting for a few seconds as atmosphere rushed out of the airtight chamber, aritifical gravity shutting down and leaving him weightless. As the external door began to open, the rear of his armour opened out, revealing a compact thruster unit.

Once out of the ship, the Pirate made his way over to the sensor array, making sure to keep a hold on the ship's hull to ensure it didn't overtake him and leave him drifting in the void. Eyes would widen with surprise when the female figure came into sight. Tapping the side of his helmet, a quick scan revealed the body's nature, and he activated the commlink to Cottonmouth. "You may want to come down to the airlock, Cottonmouth. Seems we've scored ourselves something far more valuable than an escape pod and a mutated terran. It's an android... and a lady, to boot."

With that, he would set about unhooking the android's form from the sensors quite cautiously. After all, he didn't know if she was still functional.

Just as Dirk pulled himself up, he felt the pirate grab him by his neck. He let out a squeal of fright, and was thrown to another pirate, his bowler hat falling off in the process. He opened the majority of his eyes to find some kind of beam across his (and his brother's) neck, and his arms held in place behind his back. He sighed, and turned his attention to the one with the shotgun.

"Cooperate, and we'll let you live," The pirate with shotgun said.
Dirk let out a sigh of relief, not even taking notice of the comment about the airlock. Although they appeared menacing, these savages where going to let him live. He took notice of another pirate, who looked different to the others. He looked more like a giant lizard than a Space pirate… And he was grinning! Dirk was utterly perplexed. Maybe this strange pirate was a mutant like him? If they let him live, he’d find out soon enough.

"So, Abomination," The shotgun wielding pirate hissed. "What happened to the ship you came from? Where is it?" The pirate spoke in a demonically grating voice. The effect was not lost on Dirk.

“The pod was from the-“. Dirk was cut off by the intercom. Some other pirate was talking about a technical error or something of that nature. Dirk never pretended to be knowledgeable about technology, and so looked around at all the other pirates. There were fewer crewmates than the Free vulture, but Dirk was certain they could take them, and he was aware of the fact that this wasn’t even the whole crew, at least if he counted the one on the intercom. He turned to the mutant pirate, to see the shotgun wielding one (apparently the captain) order him to do something about space junk. The mutant pirate walked off, a helmet ‘growing’ over his head.

The captain turned back to Dirk. "Now then, where were we?"

“The pod came from the Free Vulture… A scavenger ship” Dirk rasped. He was very thirsty, and he realized sadly that he had left his pills on the Vulture.

“They haven’t got anything mind you; they were heading for the blight system for stuff to steal. The captain kicked me off because I was paying with stolen money, and it was all seized by the rightful owner” Dirk’s voice hardened as he remembered the injustice committed against him.

“The captain is a real bastard as well. I hear he’s a veteran from some old war… And he doesn’t believe in God!”

+Aiko+
Roffel House!

Aiko didn’t wait for Ravage to return with more boxes before she was up to her elbows in the first one. Tinkering was one of the few things she enjoyed rather than merely tolerated, and it was one of the main appeals that kept her on Cottonmouth’s ship rather than going back to her legal job on the Randklev.

She made a mental tally of all the gear Ravage had salvaged, and she scowled at him when he returned.

“Tell me, since when have pirates classified stealing a captain’s escape pod as a ‘raid’? Unless it contained something along the lines of a sentient metroid, I would be rather embarrassed to be associated with such ‘pirates’,” she said, snorting in disgust. She was a prideful as any of the pirates, and could bitch, moan, and threaten with the best of them. And, unlike the best of them, she knew she had the upper hand if the shit hit the fan.

She organized the equipment into two piles; one was for spares that she would probably use later, and the other was for goodies she knew she could use. Life support systems were expensive buggers, especially ones that were meant to keep occupants awake during a trip. Most emergency pods were designed for extended stays in space, broadcasting long range maydays after a few days of inactivity. The occupants were almost always cryogenically frozen. Only the captain’s escape pod offered the occupant the choice to remain conscious or to sleep, mainly to allow the captain to send commands to a doomed vessel to distract an enemy for long enough to allow the escape pods to travel beyond high resolution sensor range. Once the pods were beyond that barrier, looking for them was as impossible as searching for a needle in a haystack.

And, just like she had expected, the next box Ravage carried in contained the cryogenerator. The fluid itself was HAZMAT, and had already been transferred to a sealed area of the ship. There was also the long range distress beacon, completely with valid Federation codes (which made her almost squirm in glee), and a communication array with a surprising amount of ‘umph’ for its small size.

It was a good haul, good enough for Aiko to almost take back her earlier insults. Almost.

She was in the process of typing up the inventory of what she found to report to Cottonmouth when one of her HUDs beeped. She looked up at the screen hovering over her hammock and quickly skimmed the information. Hopping onto a nearby box, she pulled herself into the hammock and keyed in T’kran’s comm. Unlike the other pirates, T’kran afforded a special treatment from Aiko, although he was unaware of it. As a former associate of Omega-Alpha’s, T’kran was constantly under watch from Aiko, since she was surprisingly protective of her metroid ally and his friends.

This time, however, she could cover up her spying with a genuine need for information. “T’kran, what is the status of that sensor array? It’s not reading properly. Can you see what’s busted?”

Sergeant Pansy’s first reaction to Ryan’s energy cloud was to draw his pistol and point it at him. Commander Serlas took a cautious step back, but didn’t seem nearly as concerned as the sergeant. The admiral, however, simply laughed. “It won’t bother me, but I’d be careful about doing it without warning. Sergeant, stand down.”

Sergeant Pansy put his pistol back in its holster and started mumbling something about crazy xenos. Commander Serlas stepped forward to Felecia’s side. “My agents have performed all of the necessary investigations.”

“Excellent,” Felecia said. “I am waiting for one other person, in addition to the Garling Commander-General.”

“Shall I return to my Peacekeeper?” Serlas asked.

“Yes, please do.”

Just then, a phone on Felecia’s desk beeped and a red light blinked. She picked up the speaker. “Yes?”

“Admiral, the UEO Venture has just jumped into our formation and is hailing us. Shall I forward his hail to you?”

“Yes, please do,” Felecia said. There was a short pause as the communications officer configured the hail. “Captain Brahms? This is Admiral Calderon. We will be jumping to the Blight system as soon as Commander-General Haredni returns.”

Sergeant Pansy led Ryan outside.

“Now, you, we’ve just received a message from the bridge that there’s a small, humanoid-sized metal object that’s collided with our ship. We think it’s a mechanoid of some sort. So, guess what? Your first job is to go out there and take a look at it.” He pointed down the hall. “Vac-suits are over there.”

--

Unbeknownst to the Galactic Federation expeditionary fleet, another fleet was already in the midst of their hyperspace preparations. Drakershra was in the bridge of Dark Blossom, issuing orders to the Looming Threat, the Ranseur, and the accompanying Xorian frigate escorts.

“You’re all the slowest hyperspace plotters I’ve ever met! I’ve known Zaan that could plot a jump faster than you vermin!” Drakershra yelled over the communications. “At least the Zorga have their act together! Are all of your workers drunk or something? Get a move on!”

“Hyperdrives are calibrated, Drakershra,” the warlord of the Looming Threat announced in a slithering voice.

“What about your frigates? If you don’t have your act together in ten seconds, I’m jumping without you!”

“All frigates are accounted for and are waiting on standby.”

“And you, Kaalik? What’s going on over there?”

“My frigate and our escorts have been on standby for several minutes,” Kaalik said. “We require only your word to enter hyperspace.”

“Right, we’re jumping now.”

The two carriers, the Zorga frigate and all of the other escorts entered hyperspace with a collective flash that would put any flash-bulb camera to shame.

Some few thousand kilometers away from Salty Dog, the fleet exited from hyperspace with a large flash visible even from so far away.
