With Ghost Light dead I've got no chance of carrying out the story arc and background related plot I had planned to continue through the RP and beyond it into other threads.

It essentially would have related back to the very foundation of the Federation and the differing opinion between various worlds of the early Fed government and would have revolved arround the theme of freedom and the 'unseen horrors of peace' along with just how far agents of the Federation would go to defend it from what they viewed to be a threat.

I'm tempted to write up in a short format the various plot points, but what I want to know is if anyone will actually read or comment on it if it's written up.

anyone care about this?

I'm actually quite curious to see what ideas you have mind for all the themes you've come up with. I say go ahead with it.

On a side note, I'm very sorry that Ghost Light did die. I was waiting on Jefe to help, but i can tell there were other people that didn't post too. Ah well.

I just _____ in the _____.

Quite often I've been in RPs that have died where I was planning on having intregal, life-changing plot points for my character, of course they never come to pass. I end up playing my characters as though it happened anyway. There's tons of things people aren't even aware of with me and mine that's behind the scenes. Heck there was even an RP where, at the conclusion, Trisha falls into insaniy for a short time. It's also why I made a short story rather than an RP, for Trisha's death.

I say give it a whirl and see what happens.

Alright, I’ve not had a chance to properly proof read this and there may be some flaws within the writing but I may not be online for the next couple of days so I’m going to post the first (and longest) part now.

If you are interested largely in the plot points and details relating directly to Ghost Light then I suggest that you wait for part three as that part will cover a few sections about what was happening to Eplosion station and what I had planned to take place during the RP

Most of the background information listed across this part was to be revealed over various RPs while other bits I have simply added to fill various gaps in the background info.

I’ll be editing in an abridged version of the background and the RP plot points in some time in the future.

“The trouble is Daiban.
On Daiban there is no poverty, no crime, no war.
You look out the window of Federation Headquarters and you see paradise. It's easy to be a saint in paradise, but the people of the Commonwealth and outer worlds do not live in paradise.
Out there on the rim and beyond all the problems haven't been solved yet.
Out there, there are no saints, just people - angry, scared, determined people who are going to do whatever it takes to survive and retain their individuality, whether it meets with Federation approval or not.”

- Head of State (Tanith Prime) Hallis Quinlan during the discussion and eventual signing of the Wight Accords

The great civilization in which many billions of beings now inhabit was formed in the year 2003 of the history of the cosmos,
when representatives and delegates from many civilized worlds coalesced and established the intergalactic Congress known as the Galactic Federation. A golden age of peace and prosperity followed, and trade prospered with thousands of ships ferrying goods between planets across the galaxy.

At least that is what the history books say,

but the truth is that there were those who disagreed with the formation of a supreme government over such a vast network of worlds, dissenters and protestors who viewed such a unity as being more counter productive than actually a force of good.
Some said that the Federation would be unable to focus much of it’s attention on one world at a time and would instead focus far more upon the priorities it made upon the core worlds and those who distributed the resources and minerals required to keep the Federation alive.
Others simply disliked the idea of paying more taxes and having the government they had supported or even founded for many years being forced to directly answer to and bend it’s will to something which they never agreed to support or join.
These viewpoints were few and far between, and while there were many protests, organizations formed of dissenters and speeches against the joining of the Federation they never truly amounted to anything nor gained any governmental backing.

As with any nation or empire, the moment that the governments of the hundreds upon thousands of worlds became linked the population of the less wealthy outer worlds began to flood towards the core worlds in an attempt to find a better way of life for themselves.
As a result the core worlds began to quickly suffer from immigration and overpopulation while the outer worlds began to see a significant drop in their population levels, this would later be resolved by the restriction of travel between the outer and core worlds along with a new listed class system which marked them being from either ‘core’ or ‘outer,’
Many protestors and civilians viewed this as the beginnings of what they had long feared it would become, an elitist government centring completely and utterly upon it’s power base while using it’s other worlds simply as a resource.
While this system did solve the problem, things soon became worse with the announcement of the Federation’s aim to expand it’s boarders and unify with more worlds via terraforming projects rather than to improve the lifestyles of the less well off planets.

Recruitment posters and advertisement campaigns were soon posted on the outer worlds trying to promote and advertise to the settlers to ‘help build themselves a better life’ or to ‘become a hero and build worlds for the Federation.’
Few such posters or advertisements were seen or heard of on the core worlds, with so many already living in a ‘better life’ there would be few who did choose to join the planned expeditions to the systems beyond the Federation’s boarders.
Naturally, many of the governments of the outer worlds were unhappy about being directly targeted to help with the Federation’s expansion when they had gained little aid or benefit in joining the Federation in comparison to the core worlds, but due to their requirement to bend to their sector governor’s will.

But there were those who chose to take advantage of this action.
For some, this was exactly what they had been waiting for.
Over the next year and a half the steady flow of new recruits for the colonization projects were trained and prepared to be sent into the unknown to terraform and prepare two dozen worlds for the Federation civilians.
These worlds would then be used as jump points to further the exploration and development of the Galactic Federation and act as a new series of ‘core worlds.’

The huge expansion fleet of ships and their escorts eventually left from the outer worlds and headed out towards their designated planets and for several months nothing was heard or seen from them.
Then, six months later several escape pods and support ships drifted back into Federation space along with a number of the colonists one single message “The Commonwealth declares it’s independence.”

Through the returning colonists and the message it was understood that several of the protesting groups had formed an alliance used the opportunity to infiltrate the recruitment programs and place it’s members within the majority of the fleet.
As soon as the worlds had been terraformed enough for their use, the various groups had begun an uprising and had taken control of each of the twenty-four worlds, telling those loyal to the Federation that they would be allowed to return or continue to live and work under the
The message also detailed that the Commonwealth, unlike the Federation, would consist of each planet’s government answering to no higher power but existing as part of a coalition between the worlds to create the new power. Furthermore each world was to be democratic, allowing for the people to directly have a say within the dealings between worlds and their place within Commonwealth itself.

Fearing that this would lead to some of the Federation’s planets also declaring independence, joining the Commonwealth or attempting to create their own individual powers as these settlers just had, all communications with that area of space were ordered to be jammed and negotiations with the Commonwealth government leaders began on the station of Wight IX in order to try and form a series of accords which each side would adhere to in an effort to prevent any future conflicts and benefit both powers.

It is unknown exactly what took place during the actual meetings themselves, but a number of these agreements are recorded within the Section 6 archives:
-Neither government would prevent any civilians moving back and fourth between each territory or leaving one side permanently to seek out a new life. Planets would also be allowed such an choice to defect to either side whenever they wished.
-The planets of the Commonwealth were to have no standing military of any kind and no armed ships above frigate or corvette size. In return the Federation would have ships make supply runs to the colonies to help with their growth.
-A Mutual Defence and Non-Aggression pact were part of the accords
-Any first contacts with new alien life forms by one side would inform the other, and the discovery of any ancient ruins within Commonwealth territory would be met with a joint archaeology expedition to excavate them.

Most of the agreements benefited the Federation far more in the long term, but as it largely allowed for the Commonwealth to be allowed independence and also largely prevented Federation interference as their worlds developed the majority vote was in favour for the accords and as such they were signed.

Soon after the agreement was signed, the Federation began making every effort to limit the knowledge of the Commonwealth’s existence to it’s planets by creating a number of way and sensor stations to act as a form of blockade and to boost the jamming field which had been created, further plans were soon made by the sector governors to once again colonize another group of systems beyond the Federation’s boarders.
It was however, quickly becoming clear that the Commonwealth’s influence was spreading as freighters and ships from the outer worlds allied to the Federation would occasionally defect and join with the new alliance, and the numbers of these defections were quickly growing.
One advantage the Federation did have over the Commonwealth was it's intelligence agencies however, as almost any Commonwealth spies were soon found by Section 6 agents and killed while Federation spies were quite easily able to slip in amongst new batches of settlers and contiusly report back information upon developments within the new government.

Many years later the second major expedition was fully prepared to begin in it’s mission to increase the Federations’ influence, this time on the Federation’s eastern rim.
Unlike the many hundreds of ships used in the fleet before them, the new expedition consisted of fifteen new Beliskner class heavy cruisers.

These ships were huge, slow moving, heavily armed behemoths which contained dozens of different facilities from mining harvesting and processing plants, to ship and colony production facilities to enhanced scanning and sensor modules. Along with this the possessed several advanced facilities such as a number of prototype AI units to help operate the ship, allow for a smaller crew and control it’s production facilities, more advanced hyperspace drives to allow for further expansion and travel and training facilities to help train more colonists as they arrived.
Furthermore, they were armed with a fighter defence grid, several mass driver mining tools (which could easily be used as weapons) and two forwards mounted particle beam weapons.
They were to act as orbital support platforms while the planets were terraformed and provide a major defence against any threats (or uprisings) to the Federation colonies.

Somewhat understandably, the Federation leaders were both shocked and alarmed when one of these new ships (the Beliskner herself) chose to jump into Commonwealth space and defect rather than to the new planets.
The reason for this was later found out as the captain (Daniel Crais) and a large number of the crew were to be revealed to have come from Rhisa, a planet which had been the result of a flawed terraforming operation several years before.
This ‘flaw’ was to be revealed as a airborne virus which degraded the bone structure of many of the colonists over several years until it essentially crippled them.
Due to it’s out of the way location little aid was sent and the populace of the planet suffered badly despite obeying Federation laws and paying Federation taxes,
Many ended up joining the new expeditions simply for the better medical facilities and to have access to a more steady supply of the vaccine created to fight it. Hearing of the Commonwealth, the ship had defected not out of spite to the Federation, but instead in an effort to convince the Commonwealth leaders to help Rhisa’s people in return for their services.

An agreement was eventually made and the Beliskner was made HQ of the growing Commonwealth fleet, in return Rhisa soon joined the coalition and the various resources of several worlds were used to create more vaccine and eventually find a cure for the virus.
With the now increasing level defection of both people and now with planets the Federation finally chose to act. If they couldn’t willingly be forced to ‘know their place’ or rejoin the Federation then perhaps the planets could be forced to do so out of it’s own willingness to survive.

The Federation Navel Intelligence (which had long been monitoring the Commonwealth via a number of operatives) were at long last put to aggressive use against the Commonwealth with their members slowly beginning to infiltrate the governing worlds, ‘disasters’ and ‘accidents’ quickly began with several of the Federation freighters carrying supplies to the Commonwealth being destroyed en route or more often exploding as they arrived, damaging various docking facilities and other ships as they did.
Piracy within the system multiplied overnight with far more advanced ships and weapons appearing under their command, normally being able to quite easily destroy or damage the armed freighters and missile frigates which made up the bulk of the Commonwealth fleet. The actions of these pirates soon became bolder, not only attacking the shipping lanes but also choosing to directly attack the colonies, sometimes even landing and stealing power generators or destroying framing facilities.
New viruses began to appear in many of the AIs which had been reverse engineered from the Beliskner and used in the Commonwealth ships, normally destroying many of it’s vital systems such as navigational logs and programs designated to controlling the ship’s propulsion.

It was clearly understood by many that the Commonwealth was under siege from an enemy it could not see, and despite request for help from the Federation, their ‘allies’ outposts and stations were unable to track or follow the raiders. What’s more is that it was claimed that the majority of the Federation’s military forces were involved in fighting off various attacks from a highly aggressive and unknown species (the Space Pirates.)

After losing many of their facilities, individuals and even two of the planets had begun to rejoin the Federation and all attacks upon them promptly ceased.
Growing distrustful of the Federation and the apparent persistence of the raiders’ attacks upon the vital but low value systems of the colonies the Commonwealth began to use the Beliskner to track the ships and seek out their base rather than to try and defend the colonies from attacks. Both it and twelve support ships searched for weeks before managing to follow two groups of raiders, one to a largely uninhabited moon orbiting the planet Drognan, and the other towards the far side of the Commonwealth’s territory close to a dead planet.
Ordering eight of the support ships carrying teams of Commonwealth soldiers to go after the group heading for the moon, Crais had the Beliskner and the four remaining ships chase after the other group and after several short battles followed them into a belt of debris orbiting the dead planet.

It was in this belt that the Commonwealth task force discovered the plot and the original meaning for the expedition, four Federation ships cargo transports (under the control of Navel Intelligence) were shown to be supplying the raiders with fuel and ammunition after their last attack, what’s more is that behind them in the belt was a ring.
The ‘ring’ was indescribably large, with alien markings and symbols dotted across it’s outer hull and interlinking sections, with it’s armoured sections pitted with hundreds of years of age and asteroid impacts. What’s more is that even to a non-historian, the overall smooth bronze plating covering the ring was clear give away: it was Chozo.
Attached to one side of it were a small number of Federation archaeological ships, apparently both excavating the ring and trying to activate a power core mounted upon it.
The colonization efforts had simply been a ruse, which is why a joined expedition of any discovery had been part of the Wight Accords; the Federation had been searching for this.

Furious from the apparent deception and betrayal of the Federation, Crais ordered that a recording of the Federation ships sending supplies to the raiders be transmitted on all Commonwealth and Federation frequencies and, after a few seconds of footage, then begun their attack.
The opening volley of weapons from the Commonwealth ships proved to be devastating, catching the raiders while they were still refuelling and destroying the Navel Intelligence rearmament ships and most of the raiders before they could react. Many tried to flee from the Beliskner as it bore down on them, firing with all weapons before it detected a major energy spike from the ring which the archaeological ships were now detaching.
The energy of the ring continued to rise for just over a minute before it reached it’s peak and a wave of energy hurtled outwards from the center of the ring and dragged the five Commonwealth ships through the ring and into a wormhole just as the last enemy attack craft was destroyed.
The sudden burst of energy surrounding the ships damaged many of their systems but after only a few seconds travel they appeared somewhere else, just as a second ring (bearing different markings from the first) broke apart behind them, destroying itself. As control was quickly re-established, it became clear that none of the stars matched up with any previously recorded charts or constellations, nor did the nav computer recognize where they were.
The ring had transported them far outside the realms of known space, or any of the civilizations known to them.

Unknown to Crais, the Commonwealth had managed to receive his video of the trade and in an act of vengeful anger they had renounced the accords and declared war upon the Federation.
Unknown to Crais, a far worse threat had been lurking within the Commonwealth and it had now awoken.
-----------------------------

And that’s more or less where I got up to thus far. Part two is being worked on and part three should be simple enough to produce.

This almost sounds like something out of Firefly, with certain people wanting independence and others wanting unification. Of course, there's definitely some differences to those which makes the plot stand on its own. I also really liked what you did at the last bit of the post, and eager to hear the rest.

On a side, I remember placing down my own government that was mostly run by humans (A la Confederation, from Scurge: Hive). In Descending Twilight, I came up with the idea that the Federation and Confederation, while not entirely agreeing with each others establishment, did recognize common enemies and wanted to keep the thus. Thus they had similar discussions like the Federation and Commonwealth, and would occaisonally swap one of their guys as a form of trust.

I was thinking that since there are humans in the Confederation, the origin of this government would be related to similar events that you placed, such as colonization and declaration of independence. Of course, there could be any number of reasons how and why they formed, either during the first colonization of Commonwealth, before, or after.

Just thought I oughta mention this tidbit. It's not like you have to change anything.

Truth be told the idea of freedom vs unity actually came from V for Vendetta as a friend lent me the comic book a few weeks before we started Ghost Light and I became interested in just how many arguments there are for and against both perspectives.

Also, I've played Scurge: Hive once and I can see why you'd use it for RE as it could easily be adapted to fit the Metroid universe, and while separatists are the most obvious way in which two galactic powers run by the same species could exist there are many others you could use like slaves for example.
If a major alien empire based upon slavery was behind the abductions of humans in the past (Pre Federation) and if the humans eventually rebelled and overthrew the aliens then that would leave then in charge of the empire free to do with it what they wanted such as turning it into a Confederation of planets.

But by all means feel free to use the origin idea if you like it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is here that the story splits into two paths, one following the flotilla under the command of Crais and one following the war between the Commonwealth of Independent Planets and the Galactic Federation. As it is the Commonwealth’s story that ends here, and Crais’ which truly begins.
I shall start by explaining the events of the war.

The Commonwealth-Federation war:

It did not take either side long to respond to the discovery of the betrayal of the Federation, with Crais’ recording being spread from planet to planet on both side’s known frequencies, Navel Intelligence realised that the people they had been plotting against now fully understood who was behind the attacks, and the Commonwealth at long last had a target for the recent ‘misfortunes’ which had befallen them in recent months.

The Commonwealth was the first to react, it’s people almost unanimously voting war against the Federation and with so many of it’s fleet close to the Federation’s boarders. The first few way stations went down quickly from bombing raids by Mjolnir class heavy fighters, and the world’s close to the Commonwealth while partially aware of the government’s existence were ultimately defenceless and unprepared for such a sudden attack by so many ships and were ‘conquered’ with little resistance.
Other’s (like almost all of the Federation) had no knowledge whatsoever of the Commonwealth and were taken even faster, usually with most of their ship production and vital facilities intact.

By the time the Federation fleets arrived the Commonwealth had firmly entrenched itself within seven new worlds and while they both outnumbered and outgunned the enemy fleet which was now without it’s command ship, it was clear that the Federation was going to take heavy losses in trying to retake them.

In the six years that followed, a long drawn out conflict existed between both sides with the Federation blockading the systems surrounding to the Commonwealth and ordering it’s ships to begin hit and run attacks, the publicly announced reason for this was a response to an act of terrorism against the Federation by various fanatics wanting to end all forms of space travel as it offended their god.
While met with scepticism on many levels, there had been instances such as this on more than one occasion in the past, and with such a small scale incident, the statement was widely accepted.

While they were clearly losing the war, in no small part due to the disappearance of the Beliskner, the Commonwealth refused to surrender or even call for a cease fire, many still regarding the supplying of the raiders by the Federation to be a clear sign that they could not be trusted, nor did they believe that they would be treated fairly if they did yield.

Then, towards the end of the fifth year things began to drastically change for both sides.
It is not officially recorded what took place but the Commonwealth fleets began to pull back on a number of fronts against the Federation, as if they were under attack by a second enemy.
The Federation quickly moved in to retake the world’s it had lost and to occupy the ones given up by the Commonwealth but within hours of trying to land troops upon the first few the Admirals gave orders to begin full scale bombardments upon the planets, ‘glassing’ many and turning others into naught but radioactive wastelands.
A few civilian ship captains close to the fighting occasionally saw both Commonwealth and Federation ships fighting alongside each other against those of Space Pirates and another unidentified race.
By the end of the sixth year, the Commonwealth had surrendered with the planets it had inhabited were permanently blockaded by a vast number automated defences, every mention of the Commonwealth’s existence and that of the war was removed from all historical archives.

What had changed?
Almost nothing, nothing except for the reappearance of a small contingent of troop transports and escort ships, the same group which had been ordered by Crais to pursue the second group of raiders.

The entire story of this group is utterly unknown to both sides but it is ultimately necessary to know of it, to understand the events which took place towards the later part of the war, and the events which followed it
Like with the first group, this group of raiders had also found a long abandoned relic site of Chozo origin, which was now being excavated by the Federation, this time built miles underground and with the doors permanently sealed. Like before the Commonwealth ships attacked and began to destroy the various ships while they were landed, landing their own troop transports and attacking under the cover of their own aircraft.

While the raiders and Federation units were better prepared than their counterparts at the Ring had been, the superior numbers of the opposing soldiers and the ferocity in which they attacked gave the Commonwealth a clear advantage and only a few minutes after the fight began it was over.
Having most of their soldiers and attack craft begin sweeping the area for other Federation troops and raiders it was not long before they began attempting to open the relic site, as many of them believed that whatever the Feds were after it was clearly valuable to have risked so much for an expedition so deep into a rival power’s territory, a few commented that the excavation crews would have most likely had enough resources such as air, lighting and food to last until the soldiers left, and also the capability to both seal and reopen the door.

Using a mixture of explosive charges and grenades taken from the Feds and raiders, the Commonwealth soldiers blew open the sealed door and approached cautiously inside.
Thirty soldiers entered the relic site, the few that came out again did not leave it with their minds intact.
Almost three hundred Commonwealth soldiers, pilots, engineers and ground crew were lost to that planet, again with the few left being all but husks of their former selves.
Another three thousand or so civilians and colonists also lived on the moon, and by the day’s end they suffered the same fate as the soldiers. Half a day after that, the moon was scoured clean of all natural life.

Only two transmissions were ever sent off that moon, both from the Commonwealth expedition:
<<*static*-oids!>>
<<overrunning-*static*-anding site, they swarmed out-*static*>>

All contact Drognan and it’s satellites were lost soon afterwards when several of the ships took off from the moon and crash landed into the planet’s major population zones and space ports,
Even when a small fleet of Space Pirates arrived to take opportunity of the conflict and raid the planet, exactly the same thing happened.

The soldiers unleashed something from the relic site, something that had been sealed away for a great many years and was now running amok in Commonwealth space.
To this day no one on either side fully understood what they were, but it took the combined might of both fleets and the total destruction of almost every planet and moon across four systems to finally stop them.
With their homes now gone, most of their ships destroyed and many of their people dead the Commonwealth had no choice but to rejoin the Federation as citizens, after each and every survivor (both Commonwealth and Federation) was forced to sign the Federation’s Official Secrets Act, never to speak of the Commonwealth, the war, or the race which they had fought.

Unbeknownst to any, the only free remain of the Commonwealth lay with Crais and a handful of warships many light years away.

The Exiled Part 1

Utterly unaware of the war he had started between the two galactic powers, Crais was far more focused upon his own survival and that of his crew. Though damaged from the journey though the ring’s vortex, all ships were still capable of moving under their own power and relatively few casualties had been taken via internal damage but with the ring destroyed they had no clear route to be able to head back into known space.
Choosing to have the ring’s shattered remains brought aboard the Berliskner’s main hanger and ordering the ship’s engineers to begin studying it to see if the artefact could be repaired or it’s systems be reverse engineered, Crais took one of the escort frigates, the Crimson Dawn, to monitor several nearby planets for any activity or life.

After several hours the Dawn had arrived in the system only to find the space between the planets littered with hundreds of derelict ships, stations and wreckage. All had apparently been far more advanced than their current technology but destroyed in some great battle, with the markings upon the metal of many showing signs of plasma weapons.
Coming into orbit of the planet, scans revealed that the surface had been quite literally devoured, with all forms of natural flora and fauna missing despite the planet’s apparent suitability to support life. Deeper scans of the surface and several aerial observations from fighters showed great cities in a similar state, with almost all of the building’s raw materials having been stripped away by the same method.

Not wishing to encounter the force which had been able to do this, the order was given for the Dawn to prepare to exit the system and return to the fleet when life signs were detected within one of the cargo bays of an almost destroyed orbital station.
Torn between the desire to gain information upon who had done this and returning to the safety of the fleet, the crew eventually opted to board the station after learning soon afterwards that it’s orbit was quickly decaying, and in another two hours the station would be destroyed in the upper atmosphere.

Boarding the station a squad of marines was quickly deployed to find and retrieve any survivors who might be able to speak of the battle and ultimately the fate of the planet.
Throughout the journey the marines used visual links to the ship to display what they found, hundreds upon hundreds of dead reptilian humanoids littering the corridors and rooms, all of them armed and all of them killed apparently by blade-like claws.

A few far stranger creatures were later found lying amongst the humanoids as they travelled deeper into the station, these had been utterly dismembered by huge amounts of weapons fire and the trails of blood left suggested that they had continued moving for some time before finally succumbing to their wounds.
These creatures were lithe and had a hunched body with elongated tail, giving them the outwards appearance of some feral predator. It’s head matched the rest of the body, two sets of teeth filled mandibles leading up to what looked like an internal mouth.
Every inch of it’s flesh was covered in thick armour-like chitinous plating and both it’s arms and legs ended in the same blade-like claws which had killed the humanoids.

Ordering four of the marines to haul the most intact body back to the ship for study, the squad headed further in and soon found the life signs.

About half a dozen survival pods lay floating within a de-pressurised cargo bay, their systems still active and the humanoids clearly present inside. Surrounding them were a great many of the claw-handed creatures, all apparently killed from lack of oxygen and pressure but judging from the claw marks gouged into the pods themselves and a handful of dead creatures still clinging to the pod, this had taken some time to kill them.

Approaching the environmental control room overlooking the bay, the marines found the bodies of about a dozen humanoids who had held up in there, barricading the door while one (now slumped over the control panel) operated the controls to the hanger and vented the atmosphere it into space.
Pushing a lever on the control panel one of the humanoids had been reaching towards, the controls began to restore atmosphere and gravity to the bay but also caused several klaxons to activate, triggering various alters across sections of the station.
What followed can be described as nothing short of a bloodbath, only a few minutes the squad left the room they were attacked by a living version of one of the clawed creatures with more quickly appearing from behind it.

Several of the creatures as they came into view attempted to rush the squad and were quickly wounded and brought down by close range fire from almost the entire squad, all of the heavy duty energy and laser based weapons the a few of the marines use prove to be utterly ineffective against the creatures and the only wounds caused were from the solid ammunition autorifles carried by the majority of the squad.

Making a fighting retreat back into the control centre, the marines managed to fortify the one door leading in and out of the room with pieces of the demolished barricade used by the humanoids. Shooting through the gaps and holes in it, the marines attempted to hold the creatures at bay with little success. Hundreds of creatures had begun bearing down upon them many of which barely slowed down even when torn in half by the storm of bullets fired from the marines.

At the same time the airlock where the Crimson Dawn was docked had also come under attack, with the ship’s automated defences attempting to hold off a swarm of the creatures and cover the four marines who were quickly retreating back to the ship with the previously retrieved corpse.
As soon as they were aboard Crais contacted the squad and learned of their situation, unable to reach them with the ship the captain ordered them to fight their way to the pods and board one in whatever way they could.

Shooting their way through the control room window, the marines managed to eventually board one of the survival pods losing two of their number to the attack creatures in the process. The moment the hatch on the pod was closed the Dawn fired it’s main cannons on the area of the station’s weakened hull, closest to the cargo bay, punching through and jettisoning both the pods and the creatures into space.
Retrieving the pods and (unintentionally) a number of the now frozen creatures with it’s main hanger, the Dawn left the system at full speed, heading back towards the fleet.

Regrouping a few hours later with the fleet both the surviving humanoids and the dead creatures were transferred to the Berliskner and sent to the medical and detention facilities. Understandably, the humanoids had attacked the Commonwealth soldiers who opened the survival pods, yelling out long sentences of a language none of the crew could understand.
Seeing that neither side had any way of truly communicating with the other, Crais ordered the aliens to be held the detention facility until he figured out what to do with them,
At the same time he ordered for the bodies of the creatures recovered were to be taken to the med centre for examination.
While the Berliskner wasn’t a true science vessel, it did have several xenobiology labs which would have been used to study developing life forms during the terraforming process in the ship’s original mission. These labs would now be put to use in an attempt to figure out how the creatures had gotten aboard the station to begin with and if there were any major weaknesses that could be exploited if they were encountered again.

However, as the fallen ’corpses’ were being gathered by various crewmen, several began leaping to their feet as one group of the crew neared them killing the unfortunate individuals with great speed before racing towards the next group.
Sensing several crewmen’s vitals flat line and the sudden appearance of alien presences within the ship, the Berliskner’s AI activated several chaingun turrets and opened fire on the creatures, the high calibre rounds killing several but not managing to stop nine of the creatures escaping into the ship’s lower decks.

From the command bridge the ship’s officers saw that the creatures were beginning to split up, some heading for the dormitories, others for the command bridge, some for the air vents leading to the rest of the ship.
Knowing that many other lives would be lost if the creatures were allowed to escape and that they would not get a chance like this again Crais ordered for the pressure doors surrounding that section of the deck the creatures were on to close and for the oxygen levels to be severely increased within the now sealed off part of the ship.
The O2 levels rose quickly and as soon as they reached the right level, a command from the bridge activated one of the defence turrets and had it fire a single shot at one of the creatures as it attempted to tear away a pressure door, the shot ignited the oxygen rich atmosphere turning enclosed corridors into a very quickly spreading firestorm.
By the time it had burn itself out a total of seventy-three crewmen had been killed by the inferno along with all the creatures, bar one.

The sight of the creature screeching up into the air would remain long in the minds of the marines who encountered it after the blast doors had been raised, almost all of it’s body had been charred though to it’s bones with only small strips of blackened muscle holding it together and yet it stood there screeching, not in pain or rage but something else.
All of those who saw it later said that they had felt it’s screams in their minds, as if there was a message held within it, a message no one could misunderstand: it was calling for help.
It only took a few seconds to kill the creature but it was obvious that the damage had been done. Just ten minutes after it had been killed the sensors of each ship began activating a multitude of alarms from dozens of different detection units.
Life sign scanners detected a quickly closing gigantic swarm of life signs ranging from the size of a small probe to four times the size of the largest capital ships. The combat systems also saw these but registered them as attack craft, the display clearly showing powered plasma weapons and engine signatures on each one and the ‘life signs’ in an attack formation.

Knowing that these ‘life signs’ were a threat and that they were moving at a far higher speed than the fleet could manage, the Commonwealth ships went to red alert, launching fighters and prepared for combat.

The following battle was nothing short of a massacre, as the first ships approaching swam began it’s attack run the Commonwealth fleet began firing with every weapon they had as the ships came into range from mass drivers to missile batteries.
The enemy quickly proved to have almost no defence against many of these weapons with even the kinetic cannons used for fighter defence ripping through ships the size of small frigates and destroying them in a few short bursts of shots. The larger weapons such as the Berliskner’s particle beams proved to be capable of quickly disabling the largest ships in only a few shots, and while the enemy fighters fighting the Commonwealth’s defence squadrons were twice as fast they acted as if they were atmospheric fighters and were soon outmanoeuvred by the defence squadrons.
Only a few minutes after the fight had begun, the remaining enemy ships went into full retreat having lost more than half of their ships to the fleet while inflicting very few casualties themselves.

Almost as soon as the battle ended a message was sent from the detention cells to the bridge, one of the guards stating that the aliens had begun speaking in their language and had asked for Crais by name.
Arriving at the cell where the humanoids were being held Crais was immediately accused of abducting them and holding them against their will, the captain argued that they had rescued them telling the humanoids of the destruction they had found on their world and of the ships which was quickly dismissed by them as simple lies. The arguments and accusations continued for several minutes until Crais finally asked why they had only now begun to speak in his language.

At this point both groups became aware of another figure wearing a featureless armoured exosuit within the cell and as they turned to fact him, he stated that it was only because of him that the two could now understand one another.
Turning to the stunned captain he addressed Crais by name and stated that while his fleet had gained a small victory over their mutual enemy, the Commonwealth had much to learn about who they were fighting and they would “require my help in fighting legends if you are to survive in this galaxy.”

Meanwhile, in the xenobiology labs a horrifying fact about the creatures had been discovered, along with knowledge of their unnatural biology.
The internal organs of the creatures had been restricted to only the bare necessities with almost all those relating to the consumption of food and water not present within the creature’s innards. The muscle fibres making up the body of the creature were of an unknown design but clearly very tough and durable allowing for great physical strength and agility, each filled with what appeared to be a vast number of internal sacks which upon closer inspection were revealed to slowly release adrenaline into the body at a command from the creature’s brain. The brain of the creature itself was a completely alien design consisting of several dozen interlinking lobes and surrounded by a dense skull of hardened bone and within that a gel-like structure making it incredibly hard to damage.

But behind the mandible jaws of the creature’s mouth several fangs had been found encircling a small circular mouth, these fangs were instantly recognised by the doctors dissecting the creature.
They were identical to only one known species, one that archaeologists and explorers had found on only one world, and who’s name would in many years time cause fear and infamy throughout the Federation,

They were the fangs of a Metroid.

Teehee, another person played Scurge: Hive :P

Actually, I like the other idea you came up with. It might make sense for some of the tech they use in the game, and it could have been reversed engineered.

As for the plot you came up, I really like what you came up with so far. It's a neat history presented for the Federation that we're RPing on RE.

I am a little confused about what happened to Crais's party; nothing too much, just a bit about the Metroids. I recall that Metroids were life-force draining creatures, and solely drained their target of energy, no matter which form they were in. Then again, I'm going off of Transcon's interpretation, and that can be interpreted in different ways.

There's also the big ships that enemy ships that came and attacked the Commonwealth fleet. Were those metroids as well, or something else? There was also the mention of the structures themselves being devoured by something; last i recall, Metroids never did that.

On a side note, you've probably heard of the Metroid Zero Mission manga. It actually goes over quite a bit of stuff of the Metroid verse, including the Federation and a bit of the Metroid's creation. It would probably be worth reading to compare this stuff with your stuff.

Oh yeah, you've probably only see most of the other chapters (After the first two) in Japanese. No need to fear, both Volumes 1 and 2, translated, can be found HERE

Well, that’s just the antagonistic option.
I suppose a more benign option would be the same abduction story but the empire is instead the confederation, who are looking for a successor race to continue their goals. They eventually choose the humans and pass on the last of their tech before dying out all together. It’s not the most original idea, but as I said there are plenty of origin options you can come up with for this sort of thing.

Also, I started reading the manga a few months back (when a link was first posted somewhere on these forums, it’s also where I got the name Daiban from) and it was actually one of the inspirations to this section of the story, the page in which Grey Voice gives some views as to why he is apparently siding with the Pirates and Mother Brain which started to give me thoughts upon how the Chozo’s (and the to some extent the Federation’s) views and goals could be put into action in other ways and also viewed as other things.

The next involving Crais’ group wasn’t meant to make exact sense as I’m going to have the newcomer explain a few things about what has happened in this area of space along with other facts which will be learned by Crais later on.

This part was largely to set the scene of who they Commonwealth fleet would be fighting and that
A. They can quite easily take on heavily armed soldiers with a good firebase and suffer very few casualties in the process,
B. Each Metroid is somehow capable of telepathically communicating with others (the call for help),
and C. They are very, very hard to actually kill.

Wounding them is easy, but even when grievously wounded the Metroids will normally still have enough time to kill whoever shot at them (and anyone standing close by) before they die from the injury.

As it isn’t that much of a spoiler I’ll reveal here that the ships and stripping of the planet are both directly linked to the Metroids but there is still a few unknown things about them which I shall explain later on.
All I’m going to say here is that these metroids evolved in a very different way to the ones we know, due to various influences upon their development. So rather than becoming Omegas, they became something utterly different and possibly more dangerous.

Think of it as comparing our ancestors with Neanderthals, same species but two groups have evolved into two different forms.

Alright, sorry for the delay but here is the second till final part.
I've chosen to post it seperatly from the final part because A) It may be a while before I finish the story and B ) This took a lot longer than I expected it would.

Anyway, as usual RL has forced me to rush this part somewhat and I've only had the chance to partially look over it so if there is anything you are confused about or any criticisums you want to make, please post or PM them.

The Exiled Part 2- Crusade

In the following few hours the news of the creature’s link with the Metroids spread like wildfire amongst the medical staff and then crew, with many viewing this just as a far more urgent reason to repair the Ring and return to known space, despite the fact that the engineers had failed to uncover any information upon the way many of the Ring’s systems worked or how to repair it.

As this was happening, the figure who had appeared to Crais and the humanoids introduced himself as Lenav and stated that he had been asked by his employers to help the Commonwealth and it’s allies in any way he could. To almost every question asked, from who he was to how he knew so much about their races, he would simply respond that he was “not at liberty to say.”

As the conversation continued it was discovered that the humanoids were known as the Tirani, and that they (like many other species and developed civilizations) had been at war with the ‘Metroids’ ever since they had begun to create ships so many years ago.
The humanoid explained that this had begun soon after the Auranar had disappeared and the Protectorate they had formed had dissolved into infighting and chaos.

He then went on to explain that many years ago the Metroids (or rather descriptions which accurately matched them) had begun to appear amongst the words, seeded by ships along side machines which had begun to explore the planets, offering the civilizations they believed had potential to grow a choice: if they were to obey the orders of the Auranar they would gain trade rights, advanced technology and resources to help them prosper.

Many had agreed to this and were embraced into the new order with a selected place within the ordered hierarchy of the Auranar’s ‘Protectorate Network’, those who refused were never heard from again. The civilizations continued to prosper for many years through the trade network the protectorate had arranged and also the occasional technological boost from the Auranar, but many soon found that they were only allowed to trade within the protectorate itself and those who attempted to leave it would be quickly isolated and would quickly falter in their continued economical and technological advances.
During their use as weapons and enforcers of the Auranar’s will, the Metroids evolved at high speed to adapt to whatever they encountered, sometimes taking traits of a defeated species via the draining of their life force. It was thought to be through this method that the Metroids gained the ability to create organic ships, and also the ability to strip mine planets of all useable resources. It was also confirmed that through this method they had gained the ability to feed upon all energy sources, even energy and laser based weaponry.

While many races held many disputes amongst one another, they were easily kept in order by threats of Auranar intervention and major repercussions for both sides should they ever come to blows.
This continued until three quarters of the galaxy were under protectorate control, with the few who would resist their rule or attempted to fight them being driven by the Metroids and the Auranar’s armed forces to a handful of worlds on the very edges of space.

Then the Auranar had disappeared, over the period of a few weeks their presence within the Protectorate rapidly dwindled and then finally died out. Time passed and slowly, without threats of repercussions or a neutral party in negotiations, old rivals and enemies had begun to turn upon one another eventually developing into multiple wars and conflicts across the galaxy, in a few short years the Protectorate had utterly dissolved with each race choosing to rule itself and isolating themselves from others.

When the Metroids returned years later the disorganized and warring mess of civilizations proved to be of little resistance and any effort to create a united front against the enemy ultimately failed. Only a small number of the protectorate’s original races remained, and they were losing the war against the Metroids badly, the Metroids themselves having scoured the rest of the galaxy of any sustenance were now attacking and assailing the surviving worlds in desperation to continue their survival.

While it was clear to any of the humans listening that the Auranar were almost undoubtedly the Chozo, they could not help but question the uncharacteristic authoritarian control they had tried to hold over the other races and wondered if this was not some other race who had managed to gain control of the Metroids in some way.

At this point Lenav spoke up stating that none of the races would ally with another unless a neutral party was available to keep order, and pointed out that the ideals which Crais held and the government he supported would be well suited to this task.
He continued, pointing out how the Commonwealth fleet (outside of the Berliskner’s limited faculties) had no efficient way of repairing and building ships or creating additional ammunition for the ships’ weapons, additionally there were also no new recruits to replace those they lost in combat and that over time they would die out without a direct form of help or support.

In short he recommended that Crais form a second Commonwealth here for both his benefit and those of the other civilizations, in return for this he offered that both himself and others like him would begin rebuilding the Ring for their use and reverse engineer any technology they could use.
He also mentioned that the Ring had transported them to a totally different galaxy and without it being repaired, they would stand no chance of returning home. Accepting his offer was the only way they could return to known space.

After considering this with the other captains and ship officers within the fleet it was eventually agreed that creating a second commonwealth was their only real option for survival and, though many (understandably) showed extreme distrust to Lenav and his ‘employers,’ it was also agreed that with no signs of progress being produced from the engineers they would also accept his offer as well.

Shortly afterwards Crais made a speech to the fleet, explaining what had taken place and confirming that the creatures were indeed Metroids. However, he focused upon the fact that they had easily beaten the enemy fleet with only a fraction of their numbers and that, with the help of other worlds, he was certain that they would be able to survive, rebuild the gate and rejoin the Commonwealth.
Shortly after the speech was finished Lenav appeared once again, telling Crais that the fleet they had fought was largely inexperienced and small when compared to many of the others, and that later conflicts would prove to be more difficult.

Attempting to create a second Commonwealth in such a war torn galaxy however, proved to be far more difficult than anyone had expected, and only five of the civilized worlds (including two who had suffered the worst under Metroid attacks) showed any interested in joining the Commonwealth while most simply gave extreme skepticism in such a primitive form of combat defeating a highly advanced enemy and refused to join, others simply shunned them.

Problems only increased when the Metroids made an assault upon Viredan (one of the outer planets who had agreed to join Crais), this time with a much more ‘experienced’ fleet who’s ships proved to be far more resistant to the weapons of the Commonwealth. Ultimately the enemy fleet was driven back but at the loss of two entire fighter squadrons and the escort frigate Fenris after it became overrun by Metroid boarding swarms, and self destructed. After this second major defeat the Metroid ‘Hive Fleets’ began to view the Commonwealth as a threat with some fleets completely avoiding them and another’s attempting to hunt down the remaining warships.

The Commonwealth did slowly begin to grow over time with a total of seven worlds joining it in just over a year, but the continuing skirmishes were clearly beginning to take a toll on the fleet and with all of the ships designed to support them in the defence of the new Commonwealth still under construction the government was being forced to rely almost purely upon one overworked battle group for protection against all attempted raids by the Metroids.

This was soon to chance however, a blind jump while attempting to flee a Metroid ambush resulted in the Berliskner reappearing for a short while in a debris field of a planet which had been consumed by the Metroids.
While harvesting the nearby asteroids and wrecks in an effort to repair their command ship, one of the mining drones stumbled upon a highly advanced derelict, soon identified to be a long abandoned Auranar battle carrier, which had apparently been attacked by Metroids and abandoned with speed.
With Metroid scout ships sweeping through the debris fields in search of targets the Berliskner began the risky operation of salvaging the ship by use of the mining drones and the Berliskner’s hyperspace drive while attempted to avoid being detected. The operation was a success and despite the ship having to fight it’s way back out of the debris field to reach a safe jump point the derelict was recovered with little damage to it’s systems of hull.

As soon as it was returned to the Commonwealth capital planet of Lanthea, both Lenav and his enigmatic employers (revealed to be the same species as he) took the ship and disappeared for several months, the battle carrier was never seen again but a vast number of systems and technology reverse engineered from the carrier were delivered to the Commonwealth several months later, including nano-machine based ship construction designs which would take them days to create capital warships rather than months. Other technology given included the processes for creating lantanium (a hybrid metal of Bendzium and Maldium) which had covered the Auranar ship’s hull and also ‘Gate Drives.’

Unlike a hyperdrive system, Gate Drives required less power but could only be generated by capital ships, the actual system consisted of creating a portal in time and space through which ships would travel. While they covered far shorter distances than hyperdrives were capable of and the drives took longer to recharge to make a second portal, the portals allowed for ships and carriers to enter directly into enemy fleets with fighter squadrons already launched and could hold the portal open for up to half an hour if a quick retreat was required.
In essence the system was a shorter distance variant of the wormholes created by the Rings.

With the new technology available to them the first seventy Berliskner class ships under construction in the shipyards were quickly finished, upgraded with the new technology and crewed for battle.
It was with this that Crais (now an Admiral) saw his chance to at long last take the fight to the Metroids and start extending the Commonwealths’ influence, taking almost the entire Commonwealth war fleet he planned to attack a major staging area.
This ‘staging area’ had been a major junction within the space lanes of the Auranar’s Protectorate Empire but since the fall and it’s abandonment it had become used to group Metroid fleets together to form armadas to make assaults upon civilized worlds, the plan was for Crais’ task force to await and ambush ships as they arrived and to destroy them individually but unbeknownst to any the Metroids had been gathering masses of Hive Ships for an assault upon the Commonwealth worlds for several days now and rather then finding only a handful of unprepared scouts the fleet flew headlong into an armada of several hundred ships.

Refusing to call a retreat, the two fleets engaged each other as it was clear that were the task force to flee the Metroids would only press onwards to attack the Commonwealth worlds, Crais continued with the attack authorizing the captains to use whatever means they deemed necessary to defeat the armada.

What took place next would be remembered as one of the largest fleet based conflicts in the Commonwealth’s history, within only a few minutes of entering the battle the Metroid capital ships had begun to surround the small fleet and were launching swarms of missile-like weapons against the ships completely unlike the plasma beams the Hive Ships had used until how,
These were armored and much more resilient to the defense cannons than any of the previous Hive vessels and punched through the Commonwealth ships’ hulls with ease, each one disgorging dozens of Metroids into the ships’ cramped confines.
The marines stationed aboard the cruisers were hard pressed to contain the creatures which had boarded them and from the comms signals it would only be a short time before the crews of the boarded ships were massacred.

It was at this point that Lenav reappeared suggesting to Crais that retreat was their best option, to which Crais responded angrily that he could either shut up or help them.
The alien was silent for a short while, apparently listening as the screams of the dying marines echoing through the speakers of the bridge before he replied that there would be a price for his services later, and began to glow with a yellow-white light. A few seconds later a telepathic shockwave passed through almost every ship, disrupting any mental link there may have been between the creatures.

Both the Metroid Hives floating in space and the ‘foot soldiers’ who had boarded the cruisers seemed to hesitate in their advance and then began to swarm at high speed towards the nearest power source. But their actions were no longer coordinated and some of the ships even collided with one another as they attempted to reach the Commonwealth flagship, the Metroids seemed to have reverted to their base instincts of finding and feeding upon the strongest source of energy available to them.

With their loss of all forms of tactics and corresponding fleet movements, the tide of the battle soon turned and the Commonwealth was able to scatter and destroy the enemy armada while losing less a dozen of their own capital ships in the process, but at the cost of a great deal of their marine units and interceptor squadrons in the process.
With this victory however, the Commonwealth was finally able to prove that the Metroids could be defeated on their own terms, the surviving civilizations began to view the government as their best hope for a military victory rather than simply an upstart intrusion into their territories.

Over the next few years, the Commonwealth grew to just over 150 worlds with dozens of new species becoming it’s citizens and saw a number of dramatic changes in it’s aims and policies.
New technology was created and reverse engineered from recovered Auranar ruins, and the raw materials and designs for shielding which could mask both psychic scans and energy sources was given to the Commonwealth by Lenav’s people in exchange for sanctuary against the Metroids.

This new shielding quickly became widely used, but other than a few dozen shielded and hidden worlds, most of the planets were abandoned by their populace in favor of mobile city and colony ships (Avalon class) capable of continuously moving and jumping from system to system to avoid the Metroid fleets.
The Berliskner class was soon replaced with far more combat focused ship variants such as the Siege Perilous class battleships, designed solely to fight the Metroid’s Hive Fleets. The armed forces within the Commonwealth also underwent a dramatic change during this time with the various armies, military units and regiments of the allied planets giving their best soldiers to form two new forces (the High Guard and the Templars) armed with far more advanced and effective equipment than their predecessors.
(Specs on both new ships and armed forces listed at the end of this topic)

These changes proved to be highly beneficial, as with their source of sustenance quickly becoming both scarce and more than capable of fighting back against them, the Metroids were dying out and a few of the Hive Fleets had even taken to cannibalism by seeking out weaker fleets and devouring them beginning a race wide civil war between the Metroids.
What’s more is that by replicating the terraforming systems aboard the Berliskner, the Commonwealth was slowly expanding it’s boarders by reviving and ‘healing’ various planets which the Metroids had previously harvested.
For a time, it appeared that the Metroid threat could be beaten and the galaxy retaken over time.

Then, disaster.
A betrayal from the very heart of the Commonwealth itself,
Without any warning the stealth systems of several planets of the Commonwealth’s major systems (Terok) close to the territories currently inhabited by the Metroid fleets failed, drawing many millions of Hives into the system in search of the sudden abundance of energy on the planets, a number of Commonwealth fleets were massed to fight the enemy but it was clear that most of the ships rushing to the system’s defence would arrive late into the battle but almost as soon as the Hive Fleets neared the inhabited planets a chain reaction began within the core of the system’s star to go nova, killing many billions of Metroids, High Guard and Commonwealth civilians.

As the fleets to defend the system were amassed they were forced to draw from the defenses of several major installations, including the facility where the Ring was being examined and rebuilt.
While the Commonwealth’s fleets attempted to resolve the crisis within the Terok system the facility was attacked by a number of Templar drop ships bearing an unknown insignia and the Ring stolen.
A few hours later attempts were made upon the lives of a wide number of the Commonwealth’s political and military leaders with hundreds dying within hours from bomb attacks, assassinations and other methods.
Though many survived the attacks, Crais himself was repeatedly shot in the chest by his long time Flag Officer at near point blank range and the man was only just stopped before he could turn the gun on himself, Crais ‘lived’ from the attack but his body was all but destroyed and he was eventually forced to continue his work through an Avatar (a human replica android which is normally linked to a ship’s AI, in this case Crais’ brainwaves.)
Various attacks continued across the Commonwealth planets in an attempt to destabilize the government with a high number of military units and ships turning rogue and some even beginning attacks upon some major planetary facilties.

Under torture the ‘Flag Officer’ eventually revealed that elements from within the Commonwealth’s oldest members had created an organization which was now attempting a military coup by trying to weaken the alliance’s ruling governments allowing for them to take over and further unify the planets.
This perspective had come from several of the high ranking High Guard generals, as while the Commonwealth’s planets were allowed to retain their individuality and also had overall command of the military’s actions, the governing senate consisting of representatives of every world within the Commonwealth was slow to come to any decision resulting in the generals long term military campaigns being prolonged and with more lives lost due to simple indecisiveness.

Aware of such feeling amongst these individuals, they were soon approached by a number of the Berliskner’s crewmen, who were in fact Navel Intelligence spies originally posted to monitor and report upon ship Commonwealth fleet movements in the months leading up to the Commonwealth-Federation war and sought to both return to the Federation and completely remove all trace of the Commonwealth by converting the government into a truly unified one almost identical to that within the Federation.
An organization of such individuals called ‘The Consortium’ was soon formed between them and they began spreading their influence.

The Consortium had worked it's way into the very heart of the Commonwealth obtaining the loyalties of various elements of the millitary and government and also a large number of prototype weapons. These weapons were several superweapons which were not used for fear that their destructive power would eventually be copied by the Metroids and dupilcated, almost undobutedly holding the potential to destroy the Commonwealth.
It was one of these which had been used to cause Terok's sun to go nova.

Understanding that there were now very few people who could be trusted and that with the Commonwealth in a highly weakened state it would only take the intervention of the Metroid fleets to tip the balance of the power in the Consortium’s flavour and leave the only remaining people of the galaxy under the control of Federation security forces.

Choosing to accelerate their plans to return to their home galaxy rather than fighting both an internal and external war which would undoubtedly destroy the Commonwealth, Crais (communicating through the telepathic Lenav) ordered for several of the fleets they knew they could trust without doubt to be gathered, half of which would attempt to hunt down the stolen Ring, the other half to undertake a crusade to capture the one place which almost certainly Rings would be stored: The Auranar capital planet.
The planet itself had become a massive hive for the Metroids and was usually very heavily guarded by many Hive ships, but with the internal conflicts severely weakening the Metroids in their constant hunt for sustenance the world’s defenses were almost certainly weaker than they had been since the Metroids had begun to hunt the other species of the galaxy.

Using Gate Drives to bypass most of the space between the planet and Commonwealth, the battlefleet directly attacked it and destroyed most of the enemy ships as they entered the system. Fighting their way to the capital world the fleet began to bombard most of the surface while landing small regiments of soldiers in the remains of the planet’s infrastructure.
While most of the planet had been devoured by the Metroids an untouched facility was found hidden far below one of the ruined cities, this held a number of partially and fully constructed Rings, and a database of the Auranar’s whole history.
With both Metroid fleets closing in on the Commonwealth forces the High Guard units took as many of the Rings as they could along with the database and retreated back towards the Commonwealth.
