If you're a returning member, no, your account has not been deleted, we've actually changed board since you were last here. just go ahead and register, PM one of the staff, let us know you're here, and we'll get right to work converting your information and post count from the old board.

Keep in mind that any RPs running on the old site are probably still there, so if you don't see them here, just check the 'Home' Page, and follow the link back to the old board.

RP opinions and input; How did we do?

I just _____ in the _____.

I've tried getting people's opinions through an anonymous Q and A PM but that didn't work out so well (though those of you who did respond were very helpful) so I've been thinking in a new direction and it all boils down to: What is it about certain RPs that you love and hate?

Why were so many of you drawn to Reality's Exile Heroes? Was it the fact that you were playing yourselves? Was it having superpowers of your choice? How about Corruption: The Aftermath? What makes you want to see this RP to completion? Why did you join it? Why do you want to join it?

We also have the other side (and perhaps more valuable) side of things. What do you hate about RPs? What mades you dread every time you're due to post? What were you expecting in the RP only to have it turn in a new, unwanted direction? What made you join and then drop out of an RP?

Anything you guys have to say would be appreciated. Even old RPs, we want to know why people remember Forsaken so fondly. Heck I could still tell you why The Rise of Brutality sucked so much ass, as well as why it lead me to drop out of Temper and Beauty (it's been three years so most of you may not be aware that such RPs even existed). Why did Decimated flop while Stranded soared? (both RPs were about a large ship crashing on an uninhabited planet, leaving people to survive).

I know some of you have dropped because of certain people, like "Beflexor is being a jerk in that RP", the question you should ask yourself is: what is Beflexor doing exactly that's making you unhappy? Rather than address the person, address the problem itself. If someone else, say, Transcon were doing the same exact thing in another RP, would you be as equally upset? We're looking more for the what and the why rather than the who in this topic.

Disclaimer: The who problem should be addressed to the RPer themselves, the creator of the RP, the discussion thread for the RP (don't have one? Make one! People will thank you most likely), or, if it's serious enough, PM a member of the staff about the problem.

The reason for asking this is we want to know what to do and what not to do. If we know this, then we can work hard to make RPing experiences more enjoyable. This is also a topic that's useful to more than just us Mods and Admins, anyone interesting in creating an RP would likely find this information useful. Feel free to ask questions of your own, like "what did everyone like about X scene in Murderer's Row?"

Really, what gives you that thrill (be it dread or exitement) when you write or read something in an RP?

Ceiling Cat is watching you...

I'll throw my opinion in. First, with Heroes specifically. There were plenty of reasons I liked this Role Play...

One of them was the fact that I played myself. I didn't have to craft a new individual for this... it all came naturally. Everything I did in that RP I would do normally. At least, I think so. I could express my characters thoughts so much more clearly than before, when I had to think about what a different person would think or feel, if anything at all.

Not necessarily just related to Heroes was the fact that I came up with my own unique ability. It's a great thing being able to have that much power to put into (or take out of) your character. There were so many powers and possibilities that flowed through my head, that I ended up picking the simplest one and rolling with it, and it turned out that the power I had chosen allowed for even more possibilities through it. Halfway through the RP I even thought of a more likable power that I would have wanted had I known it before!

I guess my general point is: As a role player, I like for things to have possibilities upon possibilities. No streamline set of facts or occurrences, just a general guideline of a plot and lots, lots of materials to work with. If things are too streamlined, I feel crammed and cramped, and my inspiration doesn't flow well with the constriction of the plot. Sandbox role plays and parts are some of my favorites, not the stereotypical shoot-em up firefights.

Ok, I'm gonna throw in my thought here since they've been mushed in my mind for a while now...

This is going for Murderer's Row since it's the most active one I'm in for now (CTA is a another story since there are a few parts that are being reconsidered due to lack of participation...).

There are a few reasons why I like MR, but namely it's because I get to play a not so powerful main character, one that is just learning the ropes. Basically, the characters are in their rookie levels at the time (Except Alson and Falcon, who are more or so seasoned enough to pass on some teachings), and it allows us to flesh out some things that couldn't be explained earlier, especially with the later RPs, in which all the characters are essentially veterans. It sort of gives us this leeway to cover gaps that we somehow created when we started writing the stories and had plot holes as we went along.

It's these sort of stories that I like to reference back to when creating later RPs, so that I have some sort of background to explain certain events and behaviors that take place much later in a character's storyline.

0045h... What the hell am I still doing up...? lol...
