If you're a returning member, no, your account has not been deleted, we've actually changed board since you were last here. just go ahead and register, PM one of the staff, let us know you're here, and we'll get right to work converting your information and post count from the old board.

Keep in mind that any RPs running on the old site are probably still there, so if you don't see them here, just check the 'Home' Page, and follow the link back to the old board.

When I looked at somebody's RPG intro it was extremely long. I was going to try to make one, but didn't want to make such a long intro, do I make it that long?

Also the other RPer's make their own characters and backgrounds, right?

And, the RPer's can do anything they want, right? So they could, if they want, destroy everything?

One last thing, Do I make antagonists or do RPer's take that role?

SUPER SHELL BATTLE MODE 3!

(I just moved this topic to the Beginner's section. More appropriate there)

Normally, we don't pressure people to write long intro posts; however, usually good RPs need to start with a descriptive setting. This would allow a certain room for other RPers to work, as well as certain material to work with. Makes it easier for them to figure out what to do with their character.

Yes, in general, RPer's themselves make their own characters and backgrounds. If you referring to an RP you made, then the people joining it would probably use their own characters. In fact, we've always done that on many occasions; it allows a lot more freedom for the other RPers.

Your third question is a bit of an iffy. The RPers can do whatever they want, but within good reason of the RP plot. We can't just have one character destroy everything when the story just starts; then there wouldn't be much of an RP.

This sort of thing can be considered god modding, and often it's big nono. People that manipulate other RPer's character without permission, like saying they did the funky dance, or that your character actually killed them, is considered godmodding. Similarly, having an extremely powerful character blow up the planet is a bit too much.

You can attack or throw a bomb at another character, but don't say it automatically hits all the time. Give the other RP a chance to react.

As for the last one, that could depend on many cases. You can choose to have an antagonist, they could choose to play one, or you could both choose to play the role of an antagonist. It's really up to you and the other RPers to discuss that.

"To look for a shipwreck is at best a crapshoot, and to launch and fund a search, it helps to be the headmaster of the village idiot school or else the kind of stubborn lunatic who tries walk through walls simply because they're in the way. I probably fall in the latter group." - Clive Cussler, The Sea Hunters II

Roffel House!

As Cemp said, RPs tend to have rather lengthy first posts to establish a setting in which other RPers can inject their characters. Once the RP gets moving we tend to shorten our posts up a bit, but we still like to see posts that are long enough to at least have a decent amount of detail involved.

Other RPers do make their own characters and backgrounds, and they'll generally figure out on their own how to get their characters involved. However, if you have a particular scene in mind, you can work with other RPers to make it happen. This is often a lot of fun.

RPers can't just 'destroy everything', it's considered 'autoing' and 'god-moding' as Cemp described above. So your RP is safe from being blown up. ;-)

The RP starter generally creates the antagonists, because it gives you more control over the RP plot. The antagonists can remain NPCs though, so you don't have to create a new character profile for every new bad guy you create.

I just _____ in the _____.

Godmodding is a funny thing actually. We usually give massive examples of it (ie: killing, blowing up the world), but Godmodding can also be little things.

One example is that there are two characters, let's say Kyle and Trisha. Trisha is running down the street to jump in her car when Kyle suddenly rips the battery out. That prevents the RPer of Trisha from doing what she may have planned.

Now, something about smaller forms of Godmodding like my example is that only some would consider that Godmodding. I most likely wouldn't, and if I did, I probably wouldn't mention anything and work around it, that's the beauty of writing with others. Personally I would only ask you to change it if it was absolutely positively totally needed for the plot.

Then there's things down the middle, like pickpocketing someone, or grabbing a gun right out of someone's hand when they were pointing it at you, or jumping on them. It's not controlling the character exactly, but you're still sort of forcing them into a situation. Again, I probably wouldn't raise a big fuss over something like that, I work around things.

The best way to keep from upsetting people is get to know them, their quirks, their personalities. What is everyone like outside the stories?

For antagonists, I highly suggest you start out with a neutral or good type person, to, again, get a feel for the RPs and the way others write.

One thing about RPing is that you're going to be doing reading, a lot of reading, tons.

If you're really worried about your character, feel free to post it and ask other people's opinions on it.

Ceiling Cat is watching you...
