It had to happen someday. When I joined up here at RE, I mentioned that I was a big Halo fan. That sparked a renewed discussion of starting up a Halo RP. This thread is for discussion on where to start for just such an RP. I've been trying to come up with something for it, but I can't seem to separate it from my fan-fictions. That's where you come in. I need some input on where to start the RP, to make it easier to develop a plot line. There are, generally speaking, three ways of doing this: 1.) An undocumented battle in the existing Halo universe 2.) After the war ended (in the existing Haloverse) 3.) An alternate-reality Haloverse The character choices are virtually limitless: Marines, ODSTs, SPARTANs, Elites, Brutes...as many types of characters exist in the games and the books, and more. My personal favorite is option #2, but it must be kept in mind that certain character types (namely SPARTAN-IIs) become very rare around that time. Option #3, however, offers a potentially limitless number of possibilities (for just one example, see Reclaimer). #1 seems somewhat constrained, but it could be done and stilll made interesting. So, what does everyone think? |

I'd be interested in this one. It occurs to me that one possibility that Options 2 and 3 present to us is the chance to integrate it into our own universe, something that I know Tobias has taken a stab at every now and then. Or we could just do it as a stand-alone deal with no connection whatsoever to our own continuity, whacked out as it is .Option 1 also interests me. Either way, it's the perfect opportunity to throw out a few ideas and musings I've had for a while. One important thing to consider is whether we should do this in this section or the Random section. I guess that would depend on the nature of this RP itself. More than likely, we'll do this in the Random section, unless, as I said before, we want to integrate this into our own continuity. |

It'd be interesting to be sure, but I'm not as much of a Halo fanatic as everyone else is, so I doubt I would be participating. Sorry.

I know zip all about Halo, so I'd leave myself out of this one. |

If this thing gets going, you can count me in. I would love to get a chance to play as an ODST or some other covenant. By the way,you have my vote for option two, although option one seems like it would be interesting to role-play out too. |

I'm probably not going to join this RP but I do have some advice about running it, read HALO: The Cole Protocol before you start thinking up your RP. Trust me, it contains a lot of background info and ideas for plot threads. |

Actually, Jefe, Tobias wasn't the only one. Remember my idea back on the old boards, Children of the MJOLNIR? The one about starting a boot camp for not just canon characters, but also those that we wanted to add in? That was another stab at integrating the complete universe into RE's universe. But the way I see it, Shin-Ra is right in saying that it's best that Silver Fox grabs a copy of Halo: Cole Protocol to get some more background info about the universe itself (I'm actually reading that right now... Just got it yesterday... XD). If you want to do Post-Halo events, PLEASE read Ghost of Onyx and at least have played through Halo 3 (If not played, at least know all the spoilers and the complete plot). As for integrating it into our universe, it's not too hard once you put the pieces into place. That would mean that our Federation would need to be expanded for ONI, or we can keep that as strictly to Earth and her colonies only. This would imply that we would actually have two different governmental structures: The Federation for most of the universe and the UNSCDF restricted to matters that deal with Earth and her colonies. The UNSCDF would be the one that functions more like our present day military defense while the Federation can continue to patrol its current territory. Of course, the UNSCDF would still work with the Federation, just that they are a bit more independent, if you get what I'm saying... Just a little something to mull over, you know? Then again, it's only 0651h, and I think I'm rambling... XD;;;; |

This is just another chip on the table or whatever, and I know most of our active role-plays are already in the random section. But I think it may work out a bit better in some ways if we kept it in its' own separate universe/existence from the preestablished sci-fi universe that we have. I think merging the two may take away from the significance of the spartans, their technology, and so on. I know it can be made to work and it would do fine in the Sci-fi setting we have, but I kind of like the uniqueness of the halo universe with its' individual history and happenings. Though this is just my opinion,I'll still fine being in this role-play either way. |

Hmm...... I'm not sure which one I would rather do, but I am leaning towards keeping it separate from the current Sci-Fi storyline. I would need to talk to Jessie about her idea before passing final judgment, though. And integrating the existing Sci-Fi canon with Halo would help me distance this from my fan-fics (which, given one of my characters, I really want to do). Hmm...... I'll get back to you on that. In the meantime: Yes, I do need to get The Cole Protocal, but I have read Ghosts of Onyx, read Fall of Reach, and completed the Halo trilogy. I have also gone over much of the "ilovebees" storyline (which isn't entirely canon, but offers a lot of interesting plot points). |

Jessie, that's pretty close to how I always thought it would be. UNSC is basically the human government within the larger Federation, if there's others besides humans in the Federation. Not sure that's what you meant, but that sounds about right. I may pick up those books. More than likely though, I'll just watch Apocalypse Now a few times. That's pretty much the direction I'm headed in with this. |
