We can touch on canon a little bit. I mean, the Transformers all came from Cybertron. Prior to the golden age, there was Primus. Primus created the Transformers. Their reasons for existing were to work. Cybertron was originally a mining station built around an asteroid. Eventually, the Quintessons came and enslaved the robotic populace with their Guardian and Sharkticons. After the rebellion lead by Alpha Trion and Beta, the Quintessons were beaten off of Cybertron and were left alone to create the Golden Age. Some of the worker bots were not pleased with being workers any longer. Some invented the abilities to fly. Others learned ways to lead, squeeze out productivity, and ultimately rule. The first Decepticons were born. The Decepticons were the worker 'bots designed for purposes of security and protection. What other way to better protect the civilization than to make sure they were under control? The Decepticons formed under the flag of Megatron (and in another continuity, Shockwave). The civil war that brought the Golden Age to an end was when Alita One brought in the heavily damaged Orion Pax to Alpha Trion (while escorted by five mysterious Transformers calling themselves Autobots). Orion Pax was struck down by Megatron publicly and mercilessly to send a message to the rest of the working civilization. "Bow to me, or become scrap metal." Alpha Trion worked the best that he could to restore young and naive Orion Pax, but there was too much damage. However, Alita One was quite astonished (and relieved) to find her beloved reemerge alive and well. At first, she didn't recognize him until she sensed his Spark. This was the birth of Optimus Prime. For millions of years since, the civil war between the Autobots (inspired by the Aerialbots), and the Decepticons had raged on. Cybertron was nearly in ruins. All of the energy reserves had run nearly dry. That's when the two factions went in search for Energon sources elsewhere to try and turn the tide of war. Do you think Megatron's and Optimus Prime's units were the only ones who set out on this pioneering expedition? There are other sub-leaders. Shockwave was a sub-leader "left in charge" of Cybertron in Megatron's absence. Who's to say that Megatron couldn't have appointed another trusted 'Bot to lead another expedition to somewhere else? Same could be said for Prime. He could have requested that another member of the Prime Council to embark on a quest as well. Earth may be extremely rich in natural resources, but who's to say that its the only planet that has any resources at all? What about Gilese 581c? What about landing on a dead rock? If this was the case, what would your character's alt-modes be? Would the remain Cybertronian in nature? Could one of the characters had contact with Earth, even stationed there for a while, and had an alt-mode to blend in there? What would be the effect of a school bus Autobot on Gilese 581c? Or, we could still use Earth, but use a different part of it. In case you haven't figured, I've had these ideas bouncing around in my head for well over a decade. What do you all think?
