Everbody funny... now you funny too.

(OOC: Whew! Finally I have some free time. Now, let's get this bad boy moving, shall we?)

About half an hour after Nick had called letting them know that the deal was set and they would be on their way, Grace had finally finished her braids. She'd managed to coax Jimmy into helping her for a while, but then he disappeared downstairs to take care of some last minute business before the Pirates arrived.

With her hair done, she changed into an old gray tank top and matching gray camo pants and came downstairs. Nick's daughter Casey had arrived to help Jimmy set things up. The teenager had bright blue streaks in her sandy blonde hair and a stud in her nose, and wore designer jeans and a Captain Falcon T-shirt. She was Jimmy's new protege, and he and Nick were teaching her everything they knew, passing along all the skills she would need to survive in their world. The next generation.

"Cool braids," Casey said as Grace came into the living room.

Jimmy raised an eyebrow. "Say hi to all the girls in cell block D for me."

"I think it looks killer," Casey reiterated.

"Thanks," Grace said, completely ignoring Jimmy. "I like your hair too." They continued to talk about hair, and Jimmy could only roll his eyes.

In the living room Jimmy had set up a rack with a half dozen weapons that represented the absolute cream of his inventory. Off to the side, a table had been set with several bottles of wine and liquor from all over the galaxy, including some exotic alien spirits, as well two trays of hors d'oeuvres. Jimmy had even managed to track down some blueroot, a Zebesian delicacy actually poisonous to most species.

"Ok girls," Jimmy said, "If you're quite done, listen up. Nick will be here with Narssek and his co-conspirators in twenty minutes. Casey, I'm gonna need to to hang around and help out, okay?" The girl nodded.

"What do I do?" Grace asked. "Or do you want me to just hang around?"

"Actually, I want you to stand guard," Jimmy replied. He grabbed a vest of body armor that Grace hadn't noticed leaning up against the couch. "Take this," he said. "Casey picked it up at the Marine surplus store on her way over here. You two are about the same size, so it should fit. Under my bed there's a rifle, and there's a shoe box there too that's got a whole bunch of clips in it. Take all that and head up to the roof. Grab that old helmet I gave you, too."

Grace nodded. As fun as it was to argue with Jimmy, it sort of lost its charm once he was firmly locked into business mode as he was. Mostly because he wouldn't fire back when she burned him, and his reactions were half of her fun. Besides, she was being told essentially to do what she did best. Maybe he was right. Maybe it would be a cool job after all.

She took the body armor and headed back upstairs into the bedroom. Sure enough, the rifle was right where Jimmy had said it was, along with the shoe box full of clips. Setting those on top of the bed, she tried on the vest. She was a little taller than Casey, though they pretty much had the same body type, so it fit snug, but wasn't intolerable. And because it was just a vest and not a full suit, she was able to move freely. Of course, the army green color didn't match the blackish-gray helmet, or her fatigues. She'd be sure to paint it before she left.

Grace put the helmet on, slung the rifle on her back, and headed out the window in the the hallway onto the roof. She switched on the thermal visor, then switched it off and headed back inside, realizing that she had forgotten the clips. She ran back into the bedroom and stuffed them into her pockets, then stuck a pistol in her waistband for good measure. Then once again, she climbed out onto the roof.

.........................

"So when are the other pirates getting here?" Casey asked.

"You mean Cottonmouth and his boys?" Jimmy said. "Not till tonight. Which should give us most of the day to get Narssek whatever he might need. Once Cottonmouth gets here though... we'll let them meet in private. Give them space to work out their issues and come to some kind of agreement."

"Let pirates take care of their own business, that kind of thing?"

"Yeah, something like that. We don't need to be complicating things. Besides, that many pirates in once place tends to attract unwanted attention. I'd much rather have that attention attracted some place other than this house when the time comes."

If Mama Cass had just given that ham sandwich to Karen Carpenter, they'd both still be alive today.
