Here is the long-awaited chapters of Just Across the Street. The first ever [posted] story I wrote for my friends...awww....Such bad grammar and spelling is to follow. Enjoy until next Friday. [And yes, the first three chapters include just me and Judith. Because it was originally for her. Whatever. PM or write back if you want to be in the story!] Just Across the Street Chapter One – Quiet Creature By Naomi Wang It was a quiet day in El Cerrito. Judith was bored and annoyed. Now Judith was the type to always seem to be bored and annoyed, but today, like most days, the problem was caused by none other than her friend, Naomi. Naomi had told Judith over the phone that she had something really important to show her. Judith sighed and looked at the clock, it was almost lunch time. Judith jumped slightly as the doorbell rang. Judith walked calmly over to the door and opened it slowly. Judith narrowed her eyes, “Do you have any idea how late you are?!” Judith asked her friend, Naomi, as she let herself in and slid on some slippers that were provided by Judith’s family. “I waited for two whole hours!” Naomi could’ve cared less. Naomi grinned, “What I’ve got to show you is worth the wait, trust me.” Judith raised an eyebrow, “Well then, show me.” Naomi’s jaw almost hit the ground, “No, I can’t! Not here!” Judith sighed and shook her head; sometimes Naomi could be so difficult. “What is so important about not showing me here?!” Judith demanded. “I can’t show you now, because I don’t have it.” Naomi explained, “Its outside.” “Well then bring it inside!” Judith said slowly, as if to help Naomi understand better. “I can’t! Come out and see!” Naomi grabbed Judith’s arm and dragged her outside. The two shuffled onto Judith’s lawn in their slippers. Naomi pointed upwards, “Look at that!” Judith was silent as Naomi waited for a reaction. Almost at once, Judith smacked Naomi onto the ground, pissed. “Look at what?!” Judith demanded, “The sky? Do you think you’re funny?!” “Ow…” Naomi sighed and sat up and glanced at her knee, which was bleeding slightly. “Jeez,” Naomi rolled her eyes at Judith, “What I wanted to show you is over there!” Naomi pointed to the house across the street from Judith’s house. “Did you see it?” Naomi asked after a while, “Did you?” “Yea…I saw it.” Judith swallowed, “But what is it?” “I…I don’t know.” Naomi said, scratching the back of her head, “But I think it’s kind of weird, huh? I saw it as we stepped off the BART yesterday. I saw it, Judith. And I freaked out. Isn’t it scary?” Naomi asked, voice low. “No…” Judith glared at Naomi, “It’s probably just…just…” “Just what, Judith, is that?” Naomi demanded, “What is it? It’s creeping me out! I couldn’t sleep all night because I was freaking out.”Naomi stood up and dusted herself off. Judith glanced at the house across the street again, “We have to go inside, now.” Judith said harshly, “I don’t feel safe out here.” “Of course you don’t, no one would.” Naomi said stiffly, heading for Judith’s house. “I can feel its eyes on the back of my head…” Judith murmured to Naomi as they opened the door and stepped in. Naomi shut the door quickly, “I know, so did I. It was so cold…” Naomi shivered, “It was like ice, like someone was trying to get inside of me.” Judith nodded, “I wonder how long it’s been there.” “I just want to know what it is!” Naomi practically yelled, “I don’t like having this thing – this freak in El Cerrito! It’s driving me nuts!” Naomi said, kicking off her shoes. “If we wait, maybe it’ll go away.” Judith suggested. “How long do you plan to wait, Judith?” Naomi asked, angrily. “Long enough so that it goes away!” Judith said, annoyed. Naomi frowned, “Getting angry at each other won’t get us anywhere…” Naomi sighed, “How about we report it to the police?” Naomi said quickly, “We could report odd sightings in El Cerrito.” “We might as well tell the FBI that we’ve just seen a UFO!” Judith protested, “The police will get us nowhere.” Naomi bit her lip, “Then what are we supposed to do?! This thing is a total threat to human life – and everything that exists in our world!” “Don’t exaggerate that much…” Judith said practically. “I’m serious! You saw it, didn’t you?! Who has eyes like those?! It’s like they wanted to kill us!” Naomi said, “What can we do?” “Well…” Judith thought for a while, “What about if we…well, you’ve read emo books that have somewhat of the same plot, what do the characters do?” “They fight the evil themselves.” Naomi whispered, “But I doubt that will help us. I can barely look at it without freaking out.” “Can’t blame you there…” Judith muttered, “Well, first of all, let’s figure out what it wants…and what it is.” “How are we going to do that?” Naomi asked quietly. “We’re Asians, we can research, visit websites and forums. We will see what the geeks of science think, what’s the new gossip of what creatures are threatening earth. It can’t be that hard, right? If we know what it is, it’ll be easier to defeat.” Judith explained. “So we’re really going to do this?” Naomi asked, Judith nodded and they hurried up to Judith’s room. There they logged in and opened the internet explorer. Judith typed quickly, and pressed search. “Three hundred links,” Naomi groaned, “We’re never going to figure this out! We’re going to live in fear for the rest of our lives!” Naomi flopped down on Judith’s bed, “Oh god, I’ll be so frightened that I’ll have to live indoors for my entire life!” Naomi covered her face, “What do we do? What were we thinking? We’re just kids! We can’t –” “Naomi shut it and come look at this.” Judith motioned to Naomi. “While you were going emo on me, I checked the first site, check this out.” Judith said as Naomi read from Judith’s shoulder. Judith scrolled down the page for Naomi to read. “This…this is…” Naomi said, shocked and frightened. “This is what we’re looking for.” Judith confirmed. What'd you guys think?! Well, whatever it is, it doesnt matter that much!! Onto the next chapter! |
