I thought I'd share my results from trying out the TreX motor controller I bought from Pololu. TRex Dual Motor controller link This is a nice controller. A bit more spendy then the Sabertooth, but has a lot more features. You guys that run tanks or any vehicle that needs a left/right motor reversal to steer, this is worth a look. Nice documentation and the company that sells them has great customer support. This controller will run 3 motors, so you tank guys can have a turret or a winch or anything else that needs a 3rd motor up to 15 amps. Also has serial port function so you could run it from an Arduino board. Another really nice features is the "safe start" function...no jerk when you power up. It has a built in ESC, but only enough power to fire up your receiver, not run any servos. I guess this could be a negative issue, but it's better to run a separate ESC to power servos anyway if you have room. So far it has functioned perfectly in my Wild Thumper chassis. Seems to have a little better resolution then the Sabertooth and it's nice to not have the rig jump when I turn it on. |

So did you install one in a Blizzard SR? That would be more helpful.

Not yet. At some point I will switch controllers. I'm still learning to drive the two new vehicles and finally have both running at the same time without having to rob something from the other. But yes, that would be a valid test. |

Was just thinking 3 cell lipo instead of 2 cell would give 1000rpm per volt more to the given motor so if this unit would handle it, you could get a bit more speed and maybe power out of the given gear ratio.

It has some cool features but at that price the amps seem awfully low. And for a bit more you get into the dual SV3 range which can run brushless and can supply 70+ amps per motor. One could also run dual Atomik esc's for about 80 dollars and still get 70+amps per motor. |
