Hi everyone, sorry I've been away for a few weeks. But after some questions in other threads on brushless setups I finally got everything together and drove mine in the MN snow! Tons, TONS of fun. This is a runner I bought from Reaper with the following mods:
I've done some haphazard mods to the layout which have created challenges. I ended up getting this "shorty" lipo pack which fits better but still not perfect. And I got this nice brushless esc and motor setup I mentioned here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/RCsnowcats/topic/5062841/1/ It took me a bit of reading to figure out the radio I got. http://s1.zetaboards.com/RCsnowcats/topic/5023061/1/ Luckily for me (since there is a steep learning curve with this radio and the long instruction manual) channel 1 and 2 are already mixed. So I didn't have to do much to get this working. I have some issues though: The electronics don't fit well under the body, partially due to the esc fan and the thickness of the little lipo. So I need to figure out a solution possibly involving a new body that fits better over the chassis (more "snow tight") and I don't have to push the body clips on with a ton of force. Even with the steering mods it turns like an on/off switch. I need to do lights and wanted to do the nice rpm light bar but it requires 6" of width which I don't have on the body. Any suggestions? Soooo. ..... Here are some pictures of what I have: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by flipwils11, Mar 15 2013, 10:36 PM.

If you mount the steering servo upfront, you can cut out a pocket for the lipo to sit lower. You could also mount the esc under the top deck, as long as it has some snow protection. |

As for steering, you should fill the diff with 120K or higher diff fluid! That will help ease the on/off feeling. I plan on running 200K or even 500K in Oilcanmans if I ever get the ambition to rebuild his DF-300. |

I just did the lights on my SR, after buying the new Proline light bar set and the RPM light bar, (they have two sizes). I ended up with the 10 led controller from rclights.com and the headlight housing set for an Axial Honcho. The RPM and Proline were just to big. RPPhobby.com had the best selection amain hobby has some cool 12v strip lighting comes in large rolls or any 3 bulb combo. I run them off the balance plug on my 3 cell lipo. |

For lights, check out Vanquish Products. They have 4", 5" and 6" light bars. Very nice, very bright and water proof. |

I like your stubby lipo... I keep forgetting they come in more interesting shapes than NiMH... For lights I'm always willing to roll the dice on the china ebay items... I've yet to be disappointed. It all depends on what your looking for. |

Thanks everyone, I'll most likely do a teardown and re-orient things but not until after the last few weeks of snow are gone here. I don't want to get into it and have it sitting in pieces and miss the snow. I'll take that time over the summer to do a lights system as well. Here are some interesting things to share. There's a pond behind my house that some of the other houses in the neighborhood back up to. From the 2nd story window of our house, facing the back, I have a bird's eye view of everything and it's a large playground to drive the blizzard. I had to use binoculars to make sure I was pointed the right way a few times to drive but it's hilarious seeing all the little tiny tracks in the snow. I bet my neighbors are looking out their windows thinking "what the heck is that!?". I drew a red square around the Blizzard to help you spot it. ![]() I also shot a little video with my iphone, from the comfort of my living room, standing by the front window driving it around the front yard. Soooo much better than standing outside and freezing my tail off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUQybXSwPPQ |

I hear ya on the tear down... I have a bearing set waiting to go into my DF-300 but I think the same way as you... wait till summer for that! I can't run from inside the house... I always manager to get stuck in one of the kids foot holes! We just got about 10 Inches over the last few days. I thought I was done for the season. |

Not sure what is going on but the wheels behind the drive chain wheels are coming off and don't seem to be held on by any screw or clip I can see. I lost one outside and it was a miracle I found it! What am I missing? |

Hmm. Never had that problem. Is the clip falling off, then the sprocket falling off as well...? |
