Trying a few things different with this blizzard, most noticeable is the mod for the center plate elimination along with the front mount steering servo and the elimination of the gears.

I have a few things I want to change with this setup, but so far everything works well.

So is it direct drive, or gear box on the motor? Velineon 3600?

There is a motor there and its mounted using the PFM method. I will get some more pics of the setup and the changes I have done shortly... I am trying to make use of all of the time I can before I leave again.
Gonna try to get a video of it running as well. :nice:

Oh and if your not familiar with the PFM method send me a pm I will gladly explain. :giggity:

Ok here is a pic of the motor used there.

That is the Traxxas 380 motor, it ran on the slightly warmer side but did well reaching 17MPH on a 7.2 volt battery.

I changed to this setup.

This ran almost as well as the smaller motor I bumped the battery up to a 8.4 volt pack and I got a solid 16MPH out of this setup but my motor temp never went above 108*F.

This setup you could obtain higher speeds fairly easy with ESC, battery and motor changes.

Nice and simple. Very good Reaper. This could also be done to convert a nitro Blizzard I would guess...

What is your receiver? Brand? With my Futaba ones I take them apart and dunk them in CorrosionX. :) Have not tried to see if they are 100% waterproof yet.

That one is a spektrum with the telemetry so I can monitor motor temps.

I know alot of folks love the scale aspect of these things and rightfully so but that is just too friggin' cool right there. I like the rooster tails of snow and the front end coming up! That's how I like to run mine. :nice:

With the mod you did, making it direct drive, no problems because of the open diff?? Also, what benefits do you gain from the mod...possibly lower center of gravity?...more efficeint with direct drive? Just curious my man.

All the snow still...where you at REAPER?

Lol I am about 50 miles south of Buffalo NY there are 2 ski resorts not even 10 miles from my house. We normally get the heavy snow bands when they come through due to our location to the lakes around the area.
As for the mods, it was done to lower the center of gravity, allow batteries to be mounted in the rear and as close to the bottom plate as possible. The direct drive delivers more speed but can cause added heat that's why I am using the spektrum setup to monitor the motor temps. So far it hasn't gotten above 108*F, as for the differential I was really expecting it to explode by this point but it has stayed intact and still turns smoothly. Using the 120,000 wt oil helps to keep it going straight, I have been looking at another diff that has a 4 gear spider, with all metal and also a lower tooth count on the ring and pinion to give me even slightly more speed.
I like the slower SR setup, but I have missed running my EV since I sold it... so this one had to be built. :pbjtime:

Nice. If you could share the diff info I would appreciate it, I just don't understand the one set of spider gears. I mean I do as far as cost goes from Kyosho but it does not even have the option to drop an extra set in, like my DRX.

Temps are fine, you can run a good quality motor at 160 without cause for concern. (not sure if the VXL qualifies, lol but I've never had a problem with any of mine) What was the ESC temp?
