Waterproof brushless esc/motor combo

Not sure how much power a blizzard DF can handle from a brushless system but this seems low-middle on the power spectrum? And the price is great and it's waterproof. The Chinese made stuff is always risky but I have had good luck with their lipos and limited use of a Bluebird servo I bought there.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__25137__Turnigy_TrackStar_Waterproof_1_10_Brushless_Power_System_3000KV_80A.html

Alternatively, I was going to throw in a nice LRP sphere brushless esc and a Speedpassion motor from one of my buggies, but the most tame brushless motor I have is 13.5T. Plus it's a decently nice setup that is not waterproof so I would be pissed if I ruined it.

Any opinions, or other suggestions that are brushless? I plan to add metal Kyosho tracks to the DF I just got whenever they come in stock (in case that info changes the recommendation for power required).

I would think that if your attempting to create a go fast blizzard that the first thing you want to do it stay away from the metal tracks.

IMHO it would just be to much weight and cause to much stress on a go fast blizzard.

It seems that the Traxxas VXL system is a favorite among most, as it is reliable, completely waterproof, and can be had for a reasonable cost.

I can't see why the metal tracks wouldn't be a usable. You would just have to gear the Blizzard accordingly. By running a smaller pinion gear so the motor would not have to work any harder, giving you less top speed of course, this should even out the added weight/drag. As with anything RC related, you would want to monitor the motor/ESC/battery operating temps...

Just my opinion, of course...

13.5 might not get you where you want especially on 2s which is all you can run on a "LRP Sphere". I'm fairly certain thats the max you can use.

I'm running a couple "Cats" with 5700kv on 3s and it's pretty darn neat. I have another with a 10.5 and it's pretty cool also. (fairly comparable I believe) I think there is one or two guys running a 8.5 on 3s

As far as the metal tracks, I agree with both sides that have been presented, but IMHO I'd run the stock plastic tracks and crank up the HP! :nice:

I run mine on 3S with a Hobby Wing EZRUN 60A and a 8.5T motor.
It's pretty fast. If speed is your main goal, putting metal tracks will slow it down for sure, but it should give you more traction.
The EZRUN 60A is not waterproof but I've seen guys on another forum waterproofing it with epoxy. They run their SCX-10 in water, mud and snow without any problems.
I know Hobby Wing has waterproof ESCs.

Thanks guys. The 3s advice is good too.

I ordered this since it was in stock and ups the power a bit.

I also ordered this for my servo:

So I should only have to protect the FASST receiver and I was going to follow Tim's input on one of his build threads and look for a Traxxas waterproof case. These receivers are expensive little buggers and would suck to fry one!

Awesome prices! I just might have to look into this stuff a little bit.

It appears you can't go wrong with what you picked out, I would like to hear some feedback after you install and use them a few times.

Yep I will update. On the one hand I feel guilty buying what is obviously cheaply made Chinese stuff. But hell, for these prices...

I have a Tekin rx8 and 2050kv motor in my team associated rc8be and a tekin rs pro in my buggy, but that stuff is stupid expensive compared to hobbywing and hobbyking stuff! The hobbyking turnigy lipo batteries I use have also been great.

Yeah, I have quite a few Turnigy lipo's and have had trouble free usage.

I don't race, so they more than serve the purpose in scale trucks and bashing.

Looking forward to what you hve to say about the electronics.

I have looked at hobby king for quite sometime but never worked up the nerve to order from them... www.hobbypartz.com carries much of the same stuff but they actually stock and ship from California and for me being in Canada that works as hobbyking will not ship to Canada from US warehouse you have to ship from China.

I've also looked at a lot of reviews on the lipo side and hobbypartz gens ace batts are rated very good.

I would take the receiver apart and dunk it in CorrosionX! That should make it as waterproof as possible. I am doing that with my Futaba FASST rx......you can also buy cheaper frsky receivers...they are less than half the price and work with all FASST!

Old Skool...latex ballon & ziptie baby. Works 110%.

For these things it's plenty of protection. I've used this method in scale rigs for years and have completely submerged them with out a problem!

Use good heavy latex balloons from a card/gift shop or a party store. Do not use cheapo dollar store balloons, there is a difference.

I agree with the old school latex on receiver. I think even on the old school tamiya buggies this is how they recommended waterproofing the receivers.

I am going to use this combo on the DF300
