I think it's a great idea, I ordered the same servo but have decided to use an HS 81 we'll see how long it lives. I'll have some pic's up later.

I think it should be plenty of torque even at 46oz/in. I just wanted the most torque available in a tiny servo. The BR-XL has a 6V BEC which I hope will be good enough.

Very nice!! I am just wondering how you decided on the exact location for your servo? I want to do mine tomorrow. :)

You'll be fine with that, no doubt.

The BRXL will power a 7954 or 7950 no problem.

I found the location to cut the hole by, measuring the top plate to find the center, that is were I want the center of the servo arm. The distance forward or back would be as far as possible from the brakes for the best pull angle on the brake arms. My sevo is right next to the crossbrace at the end of the top plate.

Thanks for the info, that will help me lots. I am going to try this tomorrow but not sure if I will have it assembled. I don't have my linkage set yet. I guess even if I get the servo mounted that will be enough for me. :)

Okay I finally got to work and installed the servo. What a job that was. Now comes the linkage.

You and I are at about the same point. I got the servo hole cut, but I'm using a standard sized unit at about 40 oz/in of torque. I'm not too sure on the battery mounting yet...gotta let the wheels turn awhile on that one ^_^

How did you get a standard size servo to fit? My micro has more torque than that one. Minimum on mine is 50oz/in max is 60oz/in. :) The hitec micro is great because a standard size Hitec arm fits.

I mounted it sideways, halfway between the diff cutout and the front edge of the plate. I could have gone the mini servo route, but I'm using parts onhand. I run a standard 40oz torque servo in my DF and easily locks up the brakes. I can always upgrade if needed.

Very cool but I am surprised a full size one fits...that is why I asked how? I mounted the mini/micro whatever you call them sideways too. I looked under the plate once mounted and see it comes close to the angled front plastic plate. I think a standard servo is about 1/4" taller so in my case it would have been hitting the front plate I am sure.

I finally got my FD65 linkage set today so I will have some nice Kyosho links to try or even cut if needed plus the other bits I needed to mount the bottom plate to the chassis. I am using the DF bottom plate because it has the holes cut out and it was cheap. :)

It will need some spacers to raise it up a hair, but it should work just fine. I'm finishing up the lexan battery tray to mount the 3S lipo lengthwise right behind the spur gear. It's all pretty tight but there's no turning back now! I should probably post up some pics, is there a trick to getting them to show up instead of just a clickable link?

Yes for photos you can click "Reply" not using the "Fast Reply" then you have more options.

Click on the tab that says "Image" then put your weblink address in there. Either that or most photo websites give you a BB Code which is code like [/img]...................[/img] If you past that in here that will work too.
