Well Chris, for pricing on a nicely detailed, small run snowcat, go over to here...

Convert those prices from Euro's to USD and put on your depends... :D

This seems like you could almost be in the same boat; making a fully new chassis that could take Kyosho tracks and a few other bits...!

Only a chassis with no cab, plow, or linkage for a mere 1,204.00 US? I'll take two!! ^_^ Awfully nice, but there must be something between the Ferrari of snowcats & the stock Bliz- I guess that's what we'll be shooting for.

I watched a similar phenomenon on the R/C bike forum a couple years ago: Radio Shack, of all people, came out with a 1/4 scale dirt bike known as The Ricky (As in Carmichael, pro race guy.) . Worked pretty good, but could use improvement. So a small company came out with their own bike that was a super-pricey version of it that did work a bit better, but the price turned everyone off. So I ended up making some parts since I had one- Motor spacer/heatsink, swingarm, gave a guy the rights to make a 1-pc. sprocket I designed to replace the stock 3-pc., and Titanium fork rods with Teflon sliders- The sprocket chap also made carbon fiber side plates, and all of a sudden folks had Rickys that worked damn near as well as the pricey one for a hell of a lot less. There seems to always be middle ground!

And the Bliz chain was finally decided, .1475 pitch Stainless. It's about $50 for enough to do 1 Blizzard, but that's just how it is, and I'll offer the kit with the chain to be purchased by the buyer- That way they can spread the cost out a bit. I'll give the exact company, part #, & link to make that easy. The good news is that the stock ladder chain has a tensile strength of 50 lbs., but the .1475 has a tensile strength of 175 pounds! I MAY make Titanium sprockets, not sure yet, but they'd last longer than 1-pc. Aluminum I should think (Plus Ti is just Bad-Ass.) Chris REC

Could it be possible to move the chain closer to the chassis? maybe hide it with a cover?

Titanium may be feasible, it's a PAIN to cut though! The 1st time I tried it, just to drill holes through some that was just over 1 mm. thick, I melted six or seven high-speed-steel drill bits! It'd hit the material, and even with coolant flooding it, the drill bit would be a shapeless blob & the Ti would have a little tiny shiny spot (!) I finally figured out the correct RPM and feed rate, and then cut about 200 holes with the same bit & it wasn't even dull, incredible stuff. I'm lucky in that I mostly cut Aluminum, which cuts no matter what, it's mostly a matter of the finish & if the bit breaks you know to change something... :D

But, I have the files with the info from my sprockets for the 1/8 bikes, and all the parameters are the same, so should be able to do Bliz units no biggie. Flexator, I'll be doing enough re-designing without fixing stuff that ain't broke, so will leave the distance alone (Probably, unless a reason pops up....) The drive cog can't be moved, so really don't see a reason to move the chain sprockets. And I think it'd be a pity to have a cool chain drive maybe w/Ti sprockets, and COVER IT UP? :/ The cover would add to cost & honestly, I doubt most guys would use it- I wouldn't, myself, though it kinda makes sense theoretically. If the stock stuff can cope with snow, Alloy/Ti won't be troubled by it .....(I hope ;) ) Chris REC
