Great job, I was wondering how you were going to fit the drop bed there.

my1979chevy

My metal differential came with both self tappers for the plastic 'deff' case, and machine screws for the metal one.

Funny, mine didn't come with the machine screws.

I decided to go with one single rear body mount. Many RC's have one in the front, and two in the rear, so the opposite should be just fine (don't call the body-mount police on me). Found this in the threaded rod stash. It's a decent height, keeping the drop bed right above the chassis. I will most likely shave a little off to get the bed to sit very close to the chassis, but i'll deal with that later...

Drilled.

Drilled and countersunk front holes.

Once these are painted the body color, they should be pretty inconspicuous.

I installed the tracks to see what it will look like. The body is a touch high, but besides that, I am happy with the 'stance'.

I am unsure of what pinions to use in this. Usually I run small ones, so the motor will not have to work hard, but since there is 2 motors, I thought i'd start with these. There cheap enough (and feel the part :D ), but I also have a nice set of Robinson Racing 22-tooth ones as well...

Re-instaleld these, again.

Before.

Posted Image

Grub screws.

Posted Image

Now theres a place...

Posted Image

For these (more threaded rod, handy stuff).

Man 28 tooth... they're monsters. This is just a personal thing but I'm not necessarily digging the double diamond plate in the wheel wells... did you ever consider just flush closing the wheel openings? No offense the work you have done is most excellent.

Yes, and I see what your saying pfitchie. I didn't want to just "fill" the openings flush with some styrene. I felt that it would not look real, and also it would not be consistent with the rest of the body. I was trying to find a way to fill the openings with something that some crazy backwoods nut would use when building this in his garage.

When I am done weathering this, the diamond plate will not stand out as much and if it still bothers me, I can paint it black.

Don't believe everything you read on the inter-webs.

My intension was to run a single 4S lipo in this, using that little patch connector I made. After doing a quick google search, I had read that this was possible with this unit, and this was the way to do it...

I plugged in the battery, and the ESC threw me an over-voltage error (red-green-red-green). Confused, I did some more google-ing, and found that if you run anything more than a 2S (7.4 volt) battery on the BEC side, you will fry the BEC. Luckily, the BEC is fine, and the built in fail-safe worked. After just loosing my only 2S lipo, I needed to purchase a new one anyways. Now, I am just going to purchase 2 identical units, and run dual 2S batteries in this. This truck wont get much use honestly, and now I can run one battery and keep another charged one in my pocket when I go out on expeditions with my scale trucks.

Also, the rig was very front heave with everything towards the front, and with the weight of a 4S battery up three as well. Now, I will run the 2 batteries in the rear, on either side of the steering servo. So, you know all that assembly work, time to undo it... :palm:

Back here again. Top plate. Holes penciled in.

Posted Image

Many holes.

Posted Image

Cut and mostly filed smooth (still some fine filing to do)

Posted Image

Room for new, fresh velcro straps.

Posted Image

And, assembled again. Front battery holder-mount thingy has been removed. Pictured is my old, puffed up 2S battery. I will be ordering 2 more of these, much to the dismay of my wallet.

More to come. Hope you like. Comments appreciated...!

It's been a while, I know. Not much of an update, but I have to jumpstart this thread. Snow is right around the corner! :giggity:

New shoes arrived.

What's in the box.

Very nicely made. Top notch. Rubber with nice scale metal crossbars riveted. A lot of rivets...!

Installed. Greyhound approved.

Sometimes I get wrapped a build, and have a hard time knowing if it is going in the right direction. I took the summer off from this so I could live with it, and look at it with "fresh eyes", before I moved any further. My question is: What do you guys think of the Ford truck body? Should I move forward with it or go back to building it with the lexan DF-300 "box art" body? I am still on the fence, even after the whole summer of pondering it over. I can easily use this body for a scale truck build I have in mind. The DF-300 body would look like this...

Opinions please? Thanks for looking fellers!
