Wow, it they look beefy. You should keep your DF in your Honda's trunk incase it breaks down.

You know, that's a great idea. I can keep this in the trunk, and if I get stuck in the snow, I can strap this to the car to pull it out...

Next up: Body. Not a snowcat body, but I like the 1953 Ford F-100. It's a handsome truck.

Disassembled.

Posted Image

First task is to remove that horrid sunroof. I think Tamiya would put a sunroof in a hot-air balloon if they could...

Posted Image

Styrene, knife, straight edge, glass.

Posted Image

Before.

Posted Image

Removed the ridge.

Posted Image

Where does this belong?

Posted Image

Nice and snug.

Posted Image

A little putty, and sanding. Like it was never there...

Next was to fill those body mount holes in the front fenders. I turned some little styrene circles on my lathe, and tapped them into place, then filled the small circles with more styrene.

Posted Image

Sanded smooth.

Posted Image

Next is that bed. It is rather shallow; I don't think I will be able to fit too much in there. Also, there is those bump-outs for the Tamiya roll-bar as well.

Posted Image

Dropped bed. Dropped. Dropped right out.

Posted Image

Sanded and evened out.

Posted Image

"Runaway Pancake" is not convinced, it seems...

That feeling of working on a brand new body shell. This is going to be a killer pumpkin. Did you find photos of the original bed ?

I can see I need to go back and reread this build several times. If you are interested in selling templates of the chassis and motor plate I would sign up for one and get a local machinist to cut it out for me!

Oops just reread and saw the motor plate was from Chris at RE, I wouldn't want to rip off his stuff. But I wish he would make them again!

Yes, Chris made these a few years ago. Unfortunately, since this is a discontinued model, another run of the motor plate is doubtful (but it doesn't hurt to ask).

It would certainly be unethical of me to try and make a copy it.

Not having to fix someone else years of bad, half-assed work is a nice thing...

Well, as for the bed, it wont be exactly to spec original. I have a plan, and I hope it works.

Time to tackle that bed.

I purchased this Rogue Element drop bed kit for the (Original) Tamiya Blackfoot body a while back. I had no particular plans for it, but figured I would put it to use at some point. Here's what Chris packed up (there are some non-styrene parts not in the picture).

Posted Image

Styrene parts trimmed.

Posted Image

Bed bottom, bumpy.

Posted Image

Since this kit is not meant for the Midnight Pumpkin body, some alterations be necessary. The Blackfoot bed is slightly more narrow, and much longer.
So, let's bob. First the back is cut is sectioned...

Posted Image

Excess material removed.

Posted Image

Next is the front. Measure, cut.

Posted Image

Correct.

Posted Image

Welded back together. Bottom bobbed.

Now, the bed-sides. Bob required.

Posted Image

Cut rear section, x2.

Posted Image

Mo trimmed.

Posted Image

Welded back together.

Posted Image

Front sides.

Posted Image

Shorter.

Posted Image

All welded back together.

Posted Image

Back to where I started, in 2 dimensions. Still need to do some sanding and finessing.

Posted Image

Getting there. Thanks for luukin'...

Great work, looks very sharp. It's nice to see someone building a Ford drop bed on a snowcat forum. Now trim the balsa, hehe.

Glad you like it Blissard. I think that you are the only member interested in this part of the build...
