You can cut new brake pads out of formica. Just duplicate the metal pads in the formica material and no worries about glued on pads coming loose.

I made some for my DF and they worked excellent. You can get formica for free from Home Depot or places that sell counter tops.
They usually have free little color match sample pieces for people to take home.

I got mine from Home Depot and a couple of those little sample squares are enough to keep you in brake pads for a long time.... ;)
Not that you need many... they last a long time as brake pads.

Interesting.... sounds like it would work very nice. I think I will need to try that.

Here's some pics... The Formica is very thin and you can fit the steel "pads" as backing for the formica pads.

Thanks! Are you referring to the conversion I did on the DF?

This one?... http://s1.zetaboards.com/RCsnowcats/topic/4631883/1/

That's a great idea, GalaxieX.

I have some of those formica squares in the garage. It should have occurred to me to put those in as the caliper.

Well, that's why we combine our ideas on here... :D

Glad you guys like the idea. I'm happy to share. :)

Hint... be sure to take a needle file or Dremel and "oblong" one of the holes just like on the original steel pads.

Or just "wobble" the drill a little when you drill the holes.

One hole needs to be like that so the pads float freely and release properly.

Look close at the pics and you can see one of the holes is slightly "oval" looking.

Yeah I figured they had that oblong hole for a reason. :)

So, I have been talking with the folks over at Avid (there are very nice). They seemed interested/fascinated in the fact we were using their product in a snowcat. Anyways, the old material the Avid disks were made from is no longer available, hence them being discontinued. So, they had made some new disks in a new design/shape, with a new material that ended up not grabbing enough for satisfactory braking applications, but seems would be perfect for the EV/DF-300 application.

So, they bagged the old material, but have 50 sets made. I am going to be the product tester. :pbjtime: They are sending me out a set, and if they are good, they will make the 50 available.

The design/shape has still not been released, so I have agreed to not photograph and post any pictures of the new disks (they don't want any other companies copying their design, which I understand)...

Yeah really! LOL

I know if Timmy gives the thumbs up, I'd be up for some for sure. Got three Snowcats I'm using that sure could use a little better modulation on the braking. :nice:
