I do not have a problem at all with my HH BR-XL....I love it. I just have not remove the on/off switch that is all. I hate switches too.

Reaper I guess it is the stock gearing that makes her slow. I googled the motor : http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/speed-gem-pro-arcornite-19t-sgl-TRI9259#t2

It is a 19T so not too shabby. Just need me some gears now. I might have some that fit. :)

I may break out the brand new BR-XL but it may also go in my speed demon Wraith next Spring!! I will run the XL-5 I guess, if I have to....maybe...lol. Yeah with no drag brake it is very funky!! Like I said that is what bashed my old Bush Devil into retirement. OOOPS!! I guess it had its days of fun....now it is old brittle bones...hahaha.

So, as for the Avid brakes:

I have been talking to Kurt over at Avid. He was surprised to hear that the brakes are being used on a snow vehicle, which was amusing. He told me that they are discontinued, and being redesigned. So, the old version of the pads are no more (I knew I should have purchased 2 sets), but there will be a new version (I am guessing an updated material), but not for a while, as there are many projects ahead of it.

I told him about the forum here, the DF-300 and the group of people waiting on them. Maybe this will help push it along...

I did what I could... :ufff:

Thanks Tim!! That is cool and I do hope they check out the forums here. I would buy a couple sets for sure. My dremel cutting skills suck so the carbon fiber ones I have probably won't last long..lol.

Hey I just randomly ordered some composit brake disc's from Amain, They were Teckno RC for a EB48 1/8 scale buggy part# TKR5206, they fit the hub perfect, they were 4mm wide x 29mm.

I wonder how fiberglass will wear? Is it better than carbon fiber? That is cool they fit perfectly...do you have pics?

Here are some pic's, I had to put longer bolts in for the caliper cause of the width of the disc. They fit :nice:

Nice find my man.

They have to modulate better than the steel disc, wouldn't you think??

Excellent find and nice fit.... they are THICK, shouldn't have to worry about replacing them anytime soon.

That is cool but kind of almost too small in diameter. I guess if they work that is cool!! Cheap also I see. :)

Wondering if there is a reason no one is considering changing the pads vs the rotors... maybe something like this..

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Traxxas-Brake-Pad-Set-Revo-TMX-3-3-SLY-TRA5365-/160790664481?pt=US_Character_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item256fded521&_uhb=1#ht_1710wt_1037

Or even maybe gluing some slipper clutch material to the existing ones pads.

Gluing pads is not fun....if a pad comes off you are pooched. With composite discs you don't need pads. :)

In the past, that was the standard practice to upgrade the brakes on these. The act of replacing the rotor is easier, and seems to perform better. More consistent...

The stock brakes do come with a material to glue on to the pads... the stock material didn't perform very well and lifespan was short, once I tried the Avid rotors steering was so much more responsive and they last much longer than the thin pads you glued on.

I am liking my carbon fiber discs but not sure how long they will last....oh and custom cutting wasn't fun or very accurate...lol. I still get awesome braking....I set my EPA for the servo to 40% each way and it is the perfect amount of servo throw. I didn't want to rip parts out with my servo, hehehe. Oh soon to change again to the front mount micro servo. I won't be playing with my DF in the snow until next season. :(
