Well I can tell you all now if the Kyosho carbon fibre discs ever become available again......DO NOT BUY THEM!! The inner hole is too big for the DF brake parts. You have to buy the Team Associated ones and dremel them or buy Avid stuff when they are available. So I have a pair of useless Kyosho discs and the TA ones I have to modify now. Fun fun!!

Did not install them on Sunday like I wanted to. I was having too much fun running it on 3s all day. We were do a warm up here in PGH. so I wanted to use it as much as possible. As I type this we went from 6" of snow Sunday to absolutely nothing on the ground today! Had 55 degree temps and rain Mon & Tue. Now they sit until next snowfall, which looks nill in 10 day forecast. Gives me plenty of time to get the brakes on. |

Have to let us know if they fit, the opening looks slightly different and I think the diameter is a little smaller. |

I dremeled my carbon fiber discs today....I went a little too far and they have a tiny bit of slop in them now. I tested them with no load because I am in the process of converting my SR to a DF now. I set the EPAs on my servo to 40% in either direction because I have a high torque servo and didn't feel like snapping parts. It seems to brake very well from what I understand about the DF so far! I hope they do alright once I get the tracks and everything put on and wired up. I am a newbie to the DF and so far I LOVE this sucker!! The motor Reaper gave me with it and stock pinion/spur seems fast!! I will be using a Traxxas XL5 for the ESC. ![]() FUN! Edited by ZippoMan, Jan 30 2013, 07:27 PM.

Sounds great Zippo. The XL-5 is a good, reliable and waterproof ESC. Glad you getting the brakes all sorted. Is Avid not making the brake disks anymore? Did you email them? |

I am kinda bummed about the XL5 actually! My biggest beef is that there is no drag brake....it just coasts or you can apply full rev for braking which sucks. I had this in my Bush Devil and that is how the BD got finished off..lol. XL5 is a tricky ESC. I have a waterproof HH BR-XL but it is a pain too because of the on/off switch. The XL5 is cool because it has the on/off button....gotta give them a plus for that...lol. Reaper as for the motor......it must be a pretty high turn! She seems slower than a stock SR. Is that what a DF-300 should be like? I am slowly getting the hang of the weird steering too.....more like skid steer...funky but I guess when going full throttle who needs precise steering. Just make sure and have a big open area to play in. I did not contact Avid but I wanted to try carbon fiber. I read carbon fiber is a joke actually. Most guys say is wears out super quick. I will see about that. How are the Avid discs? I really would like ones that fit perfectly on the brake disc hub. My OCD makes me sketchy about my sloppy dremel cutting. AHHHHHHH!! I am not a big fanatic about pics or as organised as you Tim! You do very nice accurate write ups with great photos. I just want to get the thing together and working....lol. Crazy Clay here!! yeah call me CC now!! |

I'm running the Hobby Wing XERUN 8.5T, a 4000kv motor with the EZRUN60A ESC, it's fairly fast on 2S but on 3S it comes alive! |

DF can easily be geared for more speed with a larger pinion, I just threw the motor and pinion in to get you started. |

Zi[ppoman I'm not sure why you don't like the BRXL. I think its the best brushed ESC that you could put in there. The lack of an on/off switch shouldn't deter you. I solder the wires on most of my ESC's together, I personally don't like on/off switches. The capabilities of running up to 6s battery's and down to a 6t motor is makes pretty appealing but that's just one mans opinion. |

I put a 26T pinion with the stock spur. For the switch,I leave it on all the time as I waterproofed it. You don't need the switch, you plugin the battery and you're ready to go. |

The Traxxas XL-5 is a good, cheap waterproof ESC. It's reliable, but has no frills. I personally run a drag brake on almost everything, so my XL-5 is in my Lunchbox. I find it weird to have a car roll when I let off of the trigger now... As for on/off switch, i personally think they are a bad idea. I usually will remove them. You should always disconnect your battery, and this forces you to do so. As for the BRXL, that's a very nice ESC. I just emailed Avid about the brake disks, and told them that there is a group of forum users here that are waiting on them. I should know soon if they are disco'ed... |
