I recently bought a Turnigy 4.0 4000 mah battery & charger. I'm confused about charging and the display. I've been setting the charger at .4 to charge. Takes about 2 hrs and at the end the capacity display reads around 0850. I read somewhere that the charger should be set at 4.0 to charge. Should the capacity read closer to 4000 when charged? I tried setting the charger to 4.0 but get an error message. Since this is my first experience I could have damaged the battery.

You are correct on assuming that you should be charging at 4 AMPs. 4000 milliamps=4amps. Make sure you have chosen the proper number of cells and your balance port is connected. Lipo chargers have many programming options. Make sure everything is correct before starting to charge... Good luck.

Thanks, that what I thought. I believe I damaged the battery, but have another on order. I got it to charge at .8a up to 1100mah, but that was it.

Turns out the a/c adapter wasn't putting out enough juice. Switched to a 15v/5a a/c adapter (for a Toshiba laptop). $10 on ebay.

I normally charge most of mine at 2C, which is 8A in your case. I wouldn't go above that though. You quickly start killing the lifespan above that in my experience.
