I know this takes a 540 motor but what are you guys using for ESC and motor? Do most go brushless setup? |

Brushless will certainly move it along very quickly. I am running the Traxxas Titan 12 turn 550 and an XL-5 speed controller (see pic below). This is fast enough, but not fast enough where I am breaking parts due to no slipper clutch. Since the model is certainly not built for brushless, you will need make sure and have spare parts available if you go that route.

I am going to go with a brushed combo but want torque rather than speed. |

I picked up a Novak Eiger ESC but undecided on what motor to run. I think the ESC has a 20T motor limit. How many turns for the stock silver can motor ? Im thinking of a Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster 23T? Overkill? |

Is the drivetrain stock? Is the velinion 3500 overkill, do u have to change gears often? |

Actually I have had real good luck and haven't tore up a gear yet. Yes the drivetrain is stock. |

Today I bought and innstalled the Titan 550 21turn motor. Running on 2x 2200mAh 2s Lipo i serial. The Trx EVG-2 esc gives the motor 14.8v. It runs pretty wll. Exactly the speed I wanted. The motor gaun som heat but its nothing to worry about. http://i.imgur.com/ZNzTG.jpg Edited by nightshaft, Jul 27 2012, 02:18 PM.

I just scored a N.I.B. DF-300EP and the store owner suggested a Traxxas Velineon system since it's waterproof. Seems like it would be a parts breaker though. |

I haven't had much issues running the traxxas setup in my EV, it flies over the snow pretty good. I have filled the diff and did the brake upgrade. |

Do you know by chance what your gearing is? |

Sorry I don't have a tooth count for the gears but it is what ever comes stock, I use the plastic spur gear as my weak point but still have yet to replace that gear. I have ran this EV in snow, mud, water and it really hasn't given me any issues. There are metal gears that will fit and allow you to change gearing if you wanted. |

Trial and error time then, I'll start with the stock gearing. I'd love to take this thing out for a speed run, but without bearings (yet) I'm afraid to! That, and the body is uncut and unpainted since I just got it. Thanks! |

I do have a video showing my EV in the snow using stock gearing, Traxxas brushless and a standard 8.4v battery pack. If you interested, look up jtmt72 on YouTube. |

Reaper: Would any metal spur gear fit on the DF-300? Nightwolf: Remeber, don't gear too high, as you are pushing a lot more in terms of resistance with a tracked vehicle. Also, thru snow, much harder on the motor. Allways better to start with the smallest pinion possible and run a faster motor. Edited by Small Factory, Dec 23 2012, 10:10 AM.
