I ordered a 2X12 r/c; ESC discussion

Couldn't stand the quirky control ( or lack thereof) any longer. It's really almost astounding that Kyosho would put such an antiquated and counter-intuitive control interface in the SR.
Anyway, hopefully that will end with the new esc.

A question for those of you running the 2X12RC or a variant of it; are you using the stock transmitter, or have you swapped out your radio system completely?I've got several different radios, both surface (pistol grip and wheel) and air ( two stick). I've tried binding the Kyosho receiver unsuccessfully I might add to four different radios...I'm assuming their system will not bind to another radio, which means I'd have to pull a receiver from another truck or something to stick in there...not a big deal, but I'd rather not have to.

I can live with the Kyosho transmitter for the time being...any issues using it with the new ESC in place? I'm sure I'll eventually stick a new Spectrum receiver in it, and then run it off a wheel transmitter, but not right away..

I tried it with both the Kyosho dual stick unit, first with the mixing off and using it as one stick controlling each motor individually. Then I turned the mixing on and switched the receiver inputs, using the right stick as a joystick style controller, and the left raising and lowering the plow. Couldn't get used to it.

Then I installed my pistol grip/wheel transmitter/receiver. I just use one transmitter, and have multiple receivers for each vehicle. Much easier and more fun for me, and not as twitchy.

The 2x12 will run either kind of transmitter, whichever you prefer to use. You just have to use the mixing with the pistol/wheel transmitter, or the wheel will control one motor, and the trigger the other...

Yeah, I figured I would need to play with the mixing, expo and endpoints to fine tune things with any of my better transmitters. I just can't spend any more on RC for a month...December was HARD on my RC budget...so I want/need to stick with the stock radio for at least a couple of weeks aftr the new ESC arrives.

I actually prefer the twin stick setup controlling each motor independently but I have ran skid steer equipment and also have a R/C hovercraft controlled in the same manner so I am used to that type of control.
It all depends on what you prefer and are comfortable with... either way you set it up you will be happy. ;)

So Reaper how do you have your Transmitter setup? Do you use one stick like a joystick and the other for blade? I am hoping to use the stock TX like Tim had setup....right stick drives like a joystick. Left Stick will be plow up and down. I already modified my TX left stick to ratchet up and down rather than use thumb pressure. Like a helicopter TX.

No I use left stick for left track and right stick for right track, plow function is the side to side on the right stick but I have it setup so that if I use the trim all the way to the right the plow is 2-4mm above ground. I just throw the trim all the way to the right and adjust slightly for plowing when needed; if I throw the trim to the left they plow is up far enough for normal driving.

Oh very cool that is interesting, I think I would have a tough time using two sticks to drive with but I might play around with the setup. I might have to take out my TX mod..lol Oh the joys of experimentation. :)

I have a Spektrum DX5e set up with the right stick for movement and the left stick is set up for the plow so I can just set it and go. I have another ratchet piece for the left stick for if I ever put anything on the back and can set it and go!!! I like the spektrum controller 100% better then the stock one. It helps having the sabertooth in there too.

I have thought about and been looking at DX6 or DX8, I have a DX3 and a DX3s as well as a Futaba 4pk but no "stick" radios yet (other than the one that came with the SR).

I just installed my 2x12rc today. I'm using the Futaba 4 YF. I use the right stick as the joy stick, and the left for the plow movements. The Futaba has a ratchet on the left stick. I use the up/down ratchet to set the right/left plow angle, and the right/left to set the plow height. I like having the throttle on one stick.
I removed the esc box and mounted it directly to the rails. I enlarged the mounting holes by the terminal block a little and used the two existing holes in the rails. I had to squeeze the rails slightly.

If you were only going to do one up grade (hah), that would be the one. Night & day difference. I emailed Alex at Dimension Engineering about running 4 servos. He said that should be fine as long as they're not huge or digital.
I replaced the stock servo with an old Futaba and the lift is better. I'll swap it out for one that's a little heavier duty. I'm using a Hytec hs-82mg micro for the side to side scoop movement.

i have been looking at going different than the sabertooth. i think 2 xl5 traxxas esc's would work great, anyone else think so?

as long as the battery can handle the 380 draw it should be no problem. i like using the 2 sticks to individually control the blizzard so i dont think i will have a problem.

what do you all think?

Good luck trying to squeeze those into the Blizzard. I like the Sabertooth because of its size and dual motor control. It is perfect for the Blizzards. :)

If you want you can set up the Sabertooth to use both sticks to drive...you have options with it.
