Very nice. Like the dual trailing arm setup. Looks like it will give you some nice travel.

Hmm, got me thinking...

Thanks guys!

I've been "actually working" on this only for a couple of days now...

.....but I formed the idea... and have been thinking about it for quite a while... ever since I broke the suspension 2 years ago.

I am really liking that idler wheel with the shock idea. I am intrigued. When you run it, let us know how it works! I am going to have to study this a little bit more closely when it is not so late...

Thanks T2T!
No worries about finding out how it works, I intend to post video when I get it all running.

I've be working on the electronics and wiring, and the twin motor install, but don't want to show that yet....

Do you have a Rogue Element twin motor plate?

I don't know what that is...

I have a custom solution for the twin motor setup.
It uses up quite a bit of space... but not too bad. However the batt will have to be mounted on the rear deck.
Should also be "near" bullit-proof, even with brushless power.
For now I'm only going to run the stock 540 brushed can motors.
The original 540 from this DF, and the one from the new DF I have still in the box.
I'll see how that works... may upgrade to brushless later.
I got the Sabertooth 25amp controller. A bit overkill maybe.... but I'm not sure how much the 540 cans will draw.

Ahh, I just googled "rogue element " and saw the twin motor plate.

My setup will be a bit different.... BTW don't let "custom" throw you off.
This motor setup should be fairly easy for anyone to duplicate.

Oh, when you said twin motor, I pictured the twin motor plate that Chris over at Rogue Element came up with. Very sexy piece.

Anyone who is wondering what the dual motor plate looked like, go here..

http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=64116

You known, I have both the DF-300 and the SR side by side on my workbench, and many parts are interchangeable. I would imagine that one could purchase a new SR bottom plate and transmission, and convert over to the SR transmission. Maybe also side plates...

I also think that if you got all the plow arms and plow, and the front chassis plate, you should be able to install the plow on the DF.

I think dual 540's would be great, and I can't wait to see how you cram them in the DF chassis. Also will be nice to hear about the 25amp Sabertooth. You could run some hot brushed motors off of that unit I imagine...

Yep, that Rogue Element twin motor plate is sexy alright. :)

I have an SR too, and it sure looks like lots of parts will interchange with the DF.

Unfortunately there won't be much room to setup a plow on my DF with the twin motors...
It "might" be do-able... but for now I'm just concentrating on getting it running...

I'm still waiting for some 2mm thick aluminum plate that I need to finish off one of the motor mounts.
The way it worked out.... it just "has" to be 2mm thick... and do you think I could find any locally? Not a chance.

I found some online and it's been ordered... but it got ordered right in the middle of the Xmas rush.... so I'm hoping it shows up soon. (maybe tomorrow).

Well!....

I got the 2mm aluminum to make the motor plate....

Eagerly got everything installed and tested... Great! All working ok.

Installed the tracks and tried it out on the kitchen floor.
Was having fun testing for about 5 minutes and suddenly the left motor quit.
Sabertooth was flashing "error" so I shut down and tested the left motor with a battery...

Bummer... the motor is ok.... seems the Sabertooth took a dump.

While testing, checking temps, the motors got warm (not hot) and the Sabertooth was cool... I couldn't feel any heat off it at all.

Rats... now I have to contact DE to see about warranty.

Edit...

Well I just had a Blonde moment there.... I thought I grabbed a batt from the charged pile...

Turned out it was from the dis-charged pile... DUH!

It's working again, so after a few more tests to make sure all is well, it'll be time to tear it all down, take pics and do final assembly with loctite on all the critical screws.

If that is the only Blonde moment you have with this build you have no problems ;)

Keep up the good work.

interesting build ( great pics ) . . . . hope your part(s) arrive soon, and you get the "sabertooth" straightened out, as this is getting ( as I mentioned :D ) - "i.n.t.e.r.e.s.t.i.n.g.

Thanks guys! :)

phatchantz, the Sabertooth is working again, seems it didn't like the "empty" batt I was (mistakenly) using for testing.

I pretty much have all parts I need to get this thing running....

Then it's on to details and other stuff ;) .... I've got a feeling the details are gonna be time consuming....

Well I was just out testing the DX-300 dual motor setup.... having fun and then it happened...

Broke one of the main track drive sprockets.
Also broke the shaft that drives the sprocket, the one with the large "rudder" chain sprocket.

To be fair, these parts have lived thru my bashing with the Castle brushless setup from before... so I'm not too suprised something broke.
I'm more surprised something hadn't broke sooner....
