They keep jumping around, because according to morrowind game units, Tamriel is about 20 Kilometers long, whereas in the first article it implies that it is much larger than that. Get with the program, bethesda! |

Well, the scale of Tamriel has of course changed from game to game. If you went by the scale of Oblivion/Morrowind, then the area depicted would probably cover most of Tamriel if not all of it, if laid on top of it. Basically, that is to say if they recreated the Daggerfall area at MW/OB scale, it would be significantly smaller in terms of distances. This was done because in order to create realistic and detailed three-dimensional worlds within a reasonable amount of time with a reasonable amount of resources they have to scale things down significantly, lest they have to resort to random generation methods. Although if they hire Yacoby to work with them on ES V (similar to how they got some of the people from MW Combat Enhanced to work on the combat for OB), they could very well accomplish some of these things. Still it is a choice between a large generic and randomly-generated world and a diverse and detailed smaller world ultimately. You can't really randomly generate villages/towns/cities/etc. Dungeons can be randomly generated but you probably would need a very complex algorithm in order to ensure minimal repetition and that the layout ultimately somehow makes sense given the nature of the dungeon (a series of winding natural caverns can be labyrinthine in nature, but a structure built as a kind of temple should for the most part not be). Anyway, we're practically going into a whole new topic now, aren't we? lol |
