I just modeled a shortsword, not sure if i did it right, but im still gettin the hang of blender, now im tryin to get GIMP 2.5.2, also, can i Import/Export things from both programs to the same 2? like, i could take a sword from blender, texture it im gimp, and take it back to blender? and/or the other way around?

It depends...I mean if you expect to be able to texture something in 3D in Gimp, I'm pretty sure it doesn't do that.

You can use a combination of NIFSkope and Gimp as long as you have proper UV Maps applied to your Blender model. I could make a tutorial for texturing properly UV-Mapped models using NIFSkope and an image-editing program. I personally use Photoshop CS2-although it did cost me $300 to get, and that was at the 50% student discount price!

I now have a coule questions
When you mean UV mapped, is that the reflect feature that some swords have? like a mirror, or is that glowmapping that im thinkin of?

kinda adding on to question 1, which of these programs can i add a reflect/glow to my model?
GIMP, Blender, or NIFSkope?

wen i modeled the blade, there are three objects (blade, hilt, handle), how do i merge them

i had some more but i forgot
P.S
Do you guys want me to start a topic on the elderscrolls forums about the progress we've made? also, do u guys want me to look for anyone else who would like to help?

The UV Map is not a texture, but rather something that is applied to the model to tell it how the texture is applied to the model. A UV map is important because without them textures can not be applied to the model.

As for how you apply a UV Map in Blender, I have no freakin' clue, ask Vanir or something. The only reason I know anything about UV Maps is because you can edit them to a certain extent in NIFSkope.

NIFSkope can be used to add glow-mapping, and through a slightly more complicated process, reflection and even bump-mapping.

Blender can probably do some of these same things-but since I have no experience with it I can speak only for what NIFSkope can do.

It's probably best NOT to merge the objects, but rather keep them as separate TriShapes, as that will probably be the easiest way to apply textures (like one texture each for the blade, hilt, handle, and so on).

As far as a topic on the ES forums (aka BethSoft forums), that's probably best left to Sabian or myself, as we're the closest people to the project so it's probably best that we have direct control over the OP (opening post), which would contain the latest info, screenshots, etc.

inviting people to visit and offer their help is awesome.. we can use all we can get. but realize that we want to create something amazing here, so not everyone's ideas will be accepted outright. we're very open to folks that are just learning and we offer as much encouragement as necessary, but if folks don't end up having any talent in the areas they want to work, they'll have to find other avenues.

actually, modders with that sort of popularity will offer help on their own if they feel the need to. and as far as those three, Midgetalien and Yacoby won't be interested and Darknut will probably be too busy.

think more along the lines of new modders like yourself who show talent and drive and are looking for work.

thanks.
