“Don’t worry, I trained myself well.” That was Otoki's curt reply to Lavender's question. The veteran GLADIUS agent dodged the incoming rock by rolling underneath it, causing the corrupted ARES lieutenant to roar angrily as he threw a punch at Otoki, only to have duck underneath it and perform a sideways slash at his torso with a sword. Johann grunted as Otoki opened up a gash in his side, causing him to reel from the attack.

Acting on Otoki's cue, Lavender moved in next with a vortex of energized air circling her right fist. The purple-haired Esper pivoted about her waist as she delivered a powerful right hook to Johann's temple, her blow knocking the man off his feet and landing on the gravel.

"Aaaagh..." Johann tried to raise himself off the ground after sustaining Lavender's haymaker, but the combined assault from her and Otoki have finally taken him down for the count.

"Liz! Got another one for ya~!" Emilya called out from her side in the meantime.

Beaumont sighed a bit as she berated him. It seemed like she was really good at berating people. If it weren't for her (admittedly limited) healing powers she'd be a complete loss. He turned his head away from the girl as she healed the wound. Grinding his teeth together had otherwise produced no outwards sign of the pain. Compared to the reeling pain in his head he barely could feel anything else anyhow. Besides, it was no exaggeration when he had said that he had known a depth of pain that dwarfed all of this.

However with his ego barrier strained his psyche became mesh and thoughts began to flow into and out of his head wildly to those whom he was connected to. So he retracted his links. Even so everyone thoughts flowed into his mind. It was hard on his already taxed brain. So much so that he almost missed the slightly gentler way she spoke after having healed him. Almost. He glanced to her frowning a bit. "Can i stand? That's an idiotic question.." He said as he rose to his feet. His shoulder was in searing pain and his head felt like he'd been hit with a baseball bat but he wasn't about to allow this person to endlessly look down on him. "I never even said for you to heal me..." He said lightly. "I asked you to help that woman.."

He tucked his hands into his pockets. "Idiots like me aren't going to die so easily, right?" He said offhandedly before turning away from her. He moved to Lavender's side. "So what's you're order, boss?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
"Cheh.. It's a shame Liz is taken. That 'hate-each-other adversarial chemistry they have makes for a good plot.." Cypriss said planting his hands in his sides. "I used to think a good kind gentle girl to soften him up would be best but I definitely prefer this atmosphere for him.." He said shaking his head. He turned away from the duo and walked over to lavender./ He assumed she'd deploy them to work on the rest of the server next. That or transport the wounded. Both of them were significantly weakened and fighting Otoki's foe had finally fallen so there wasn't much left to be done.
"I guess we could just watch.. It's not a bad show.." He glanced to Lavender. "And the company is nice~" He said in a sing song voice at his superior officer. He really knew no limits on that sort of thing. Besides, Marina had advised him to flirt with her to help her feel more human.. or.. something.. He wasn't exactly sure.
"I never even said for you to heal me... I asked you to help that woman..."
SLAP.
Well, Liz didn't even give Beaumont the benefit of a normal bitch slap. She opted to use the more humiliating backhanded pimp slap as if marking Beaumont as her bitch.
"Well you're welcome too, dumbass," Liz grunted. "I heal people and repair crap. That's my role. I didn't heal you because you asked me to, I healed you because it was the right thing to do. I may think you're a dumbass, but you're still our teammate."
"Liz! Got another one for ya~!" Emilya seemed to cheerily say.
"Coming," Liz grunted before turning back to Beaumont. "You should do well to remember that you and Cypriss here aren't the only people in this mission, or any mission that involves more than just HERMES. You're part of a goddamn team, and you should act that way."
With that, she spun on her heels and walked towards the wounded and sedated Rudolf, then proceeded to heal him. It seemed that whenever any of Guardian Core's controlled units lose combat effectiveness, he relinquished them.
"This Guardian Core's a pretty crafty fellow... completely logical and amoral too," she said as she healed the gash on the man's shoulder from Emilya's Hrunting. "Using people only as he sees fit, then discarding them when they've outlived their usefulness. I'd say he's a grade-A Gravemind in Guilty Spark's body."
When she was done, she turned to Lavender, and saw that all three of the Corrupted ARES team members were down for the count. "It looks like we're almost out of the woods... but first we need to find a way to shut down Guardian Core. There has to be a central network around here where he travels from computer to computer; if we can find and disable that, it should confine him to one console and isolate him, well, if he hasn't learned how to reproduce yet anyway."
"I never even said for you to heal me... I asked you to help that woman..." Beaumont's remark received in response a backhanded pimp slap from Liz.
Lavender sighed and shook her head as Liz slapped Beaumont - that guy was a real die-hard.
"Well you're welcome too, dumbass," Liz grunted. "I heal people and repair crap. That's my role. I didn't heal you because you asked me to, I healed you because it was the right thing to do. I may think you're a dumbass, but you're still our teammate."
The leader of the GLADIUS team waited for Liz to finish healing the corrupted GLADIUS agents who had been put out of action before turning her attention back to Guardian Core.
"This Guardian Core's a pretty crafty fellow... completely logical and amoral too," Liz commented. "Using people only as he sees fit, then discarding them when they've outlived their usefulness. I'd say he's a grade-A Gravemind in Guilty Spark's body."
"Indeed... that's why I say we eliminate every trace of this AI's existence," Lavender added. "As mentioned before, I dread to think what could happen if this thing gains control of say, USA or Russia's defense networks." It wasn't hard to imagine Guardian Core unleashing a Judgement Day-esque nuclear holocaust upon the world.
"It looks like we're almost out of the woods... but first we need to find a way to shut down Guardian Core. There has to be a central network around here where he travels from computer to computer; if we can find and disable that, it should confine him to one console and isolate him, well, if he hasn't learned how to reproduce yet anyway."
Lavender retrieved the map of the mines from her coat pocket, unfurling the document. "Well, Site 42's server is right over there," the purple-haired Esper pointed to a container office located near the ruined dome. "If we were to destroy or shut down the server it would bring the entire LAN down and prevent any data transfers between all machines on this site."
Lavender cracked her knuckles as she looked at the assembled GLADIUS operative. "All right, all together now in one combined, concentrated effort," the purple-haired Esper said as she raised her hands in readiness to release a double Saber Gust; although before she could do so, Guardian Core made one last attempt to parlay.
"Please, humans... please reconsider," Guardian Core communicated via Morse Code, the lights on the excavation site flashing. "Just think about all that you could stand to gain if I were to share the knowledge of my creators with your kind... the progress your civilization could make would be stellar. War... epidemics... social unrest... all these could become a thing of the past. But if you could kindly rethink your position..."
Rule 63 is fun.
"Have...withstood pain to create many weapons." Emilya continued to herself, not really caring for the Guardian Core's little message. It just didn't interest her, and the orders were to take the thing out anyway, and while the chant she was doing may lead to a possible overkill, she just had this deep feeling in her stomach that this wasn't the end of things, it just had to have more then just mind controlled allies...right? Either way, gripping the lone blade she was wielding tighter she just waited for the signal to go.
"Yet...those hands will never hold anything."
Since Liz was already a technopath and a tech whisperer, she didn't need to decipher the flashing lights via morse code. It sounded more like a whisper to her.
"Give me a sec, I think he wants to say something," Liz began before pausing to hear what he had to say, before relaying it to everyone else. "'Please, humans... please reconsider, Just think about all that you could stand to gain if I were to share the knowledge of my creators with your kind... the progress your civilization could make would be stellar. War... epidemics... social unrest... all these could become a thing of the past. But if you could kindly rethink your position...'"
Liz blinked, and chuckled for a moment. "Huh. You know, he does make sense. I mean, isn't that what we came down here for in the first place? To learn about their civilization? To find out who or what made these things? And wouldn't it be great if we could just, well, receive such knowledge easily instead of having to decipher them?"
She rubbed her chin with her hand a little as if lost in thought. "It's true, if he we spared him, he could share this knowledge.
"... But you know what...
"... It's hard to believe in something that just tried to assert its control and dominance over humans. And frankly, that last part about where your creator's civilization was preparing to go to war... That didn't sit well with me one bit. If we're going to learn something, it'll have to be how NOT to get ourselves extinct. And really... I wouldn't mind knowing about all that information in a logical, efficient manner. But then... I wouldn't be human, now would I, because I'd have to be under your control. We'll figure it out... but on our own terms."
With that, Liz sighed. "Prepare to get deleted, Guardian Core. It's a shame they didn't program you with a little more understanding about what it is to be kind and be human. I would have liked to work with you otherwise."
"Give me a sec, I think he wants to say something," Liz paused just long enough to relay what the machine intended to say to the GLADIUS operatives present on the scene, before chuckling briefly at what it had just said. "Huh. You know, he does make sense. I mean, isn't that what we came down here for in the first place? To learn about their civilization? To find out who or what made these things? And wouldn't it be great if we could just, well, receive such knowledge easily instead of having to decipher them?"
Lavender paused in charging up her double Saber Gusts only for a while to listen to what Guardian Core had to say, as well as Liz's thoughts on the cyber entity's proposal. Considering mere moments ago it wanted to kill them... now that is one sneaky artificial intelligence.
"It's true, if he we spared him, he could share this knowledge.
"... But you know what...
"... It's hard to believe in something that just tried to assert its control and dominance over humans. And frankly, that last part about where your creator's civilization was preparing to go to war... That didn't sit well with me one bit. "Couldn't have said it better, Liz," Lavender replied, nodding as she turned her attention back to the server.
With that, Liz sighed, "Prepare to get deleted, Guardian Core. It's a shame they didn't program you with a little more understanding about what it is to be kind and be human. I would have liked to work with you otherwise."
"You... you're all making a terrible mistake..." But at this point Lavender paid the cyber intelligence no heed as she unleashed two Saber Gusts the container office that held Site 42's server hardware. She would probably need to answer for contravening The Director's orders once she returned to GLADIUS headquarters, but as far as Lavender is concerned, this is something she would personally answer to, and would not concern her subordinates in any way or form.
"All together now!" Lavender shouted as she sent two crescent-shaped waves of energized air out at the server.
SLAP
The sound of flesh impacting against flesh.; But not quite as Liz had intended it. "That's quite enough.." Cypriss said moving his hand away from where it had narrowly stopped hers from hitting Beaumont and eying her. "You've both said enough.. There's no sense in getting physical.." He gave her a hard look before braking into a grin and looking back to lavender. "eh? Destroy it.. Man I wish I could help more.." He said planting his hands in his sides. A small frown playing across his lips. He shrugged his shoulders in defeat.
"Too bad we're in the dark or I could do something.. In the shining sunlight my power is almost unlimited.." Cypriss said with frowned he crossed his arms over his chest."I guess I will give you guys the climax.."
Beaumont closed his eyes. It was hard, his ego barrier was already weakened this was just torture. But he managed to summon his brother out. The large humanoid raised its blade over his head. Beaumont glanced to Cypriss. "You didn't have to stop it from hitting me.. I could.. No, Thanks." Meanwhile he completely ignored Liz. He turned to the creature that he called 'brother' "Completely destroy it. Let's do it in one swing.. I've not got the mental fortitude for a second volley.." He said sending it forward to attack with the others..
Hit the Beat, keep your Beat!
All the while after subduing him, Otoki had Johann under his watchful gaze to see if the man would stand up and resist again or something but so far, it doesn’t seem to be the case… for now. His sword’s blade poised over the other man’s neck at the ready but still nothing.
He couldn’t stand at the ready like that any longer anyway as Lavender called for the general destruction of the computer network system itself to completely destroy the Guardian Core thing so it won’t reach the outside world and create more problems than it is.
Otoki removed his Reppu from its holster and proceeded to add his relentless shots of sonic rounds to the combined effort.
A series of explosions tore apart the computers that made up Site 42's server as acting on Lavender's cue the GLADIUS operatives unloaded their attacks on it, a combined salvo of air blades and sonic blasts turned the hardware into scrap metal.
"So... this is it then," Guardian Core mused as it now found itself confined within a single computer, seemingly calm in its final moments. As the Mindwave Corrupter's signals died down, the rest of the researchers and guards would gradually regain their senses, with nothing more than a headache and possessing no memory of what had happened during the time they were under Guardian Core's control.
Beaumont eased up and let his persona dissipate. He planted his hands in his sides with a satisfied look about his features, "Good.. It's good that accomplished at least this much..." He said with a small nod. "A shame that it wasn't able to think for itself beyond ways to serve its master..." With that he sighed heavily and turned to Lavender. He'd best try to contain this situation before it got worse. "I AM sorry for disobeying you.. In the frustration of all of this.. I suppose I lost my head there for a minute.. I attacked even though to asked me to hold back. I really am sorry for that. I guess I can blame it on inexperience or being in an unfamiliar setting but it's really just an excuse. The truth is I let my hubris override my ability to follow orders.. I felt I could take her and in my desire to quickly end this I attacked before being cleared to do so.. I won't make that mistake again.."
"..." He glanced to Liz with a small frown of annoyance. Maybe if this person...! No, it was best to avoid thinking like that. Even if she'd acted out of line he didn't need to take out his frustration on others when it was his own failure to follow a simple order that was bothering him. What kind of field commander was he?! It was idiotic.
Cypriss frowned a bit and folded his arms over his chest. Now was no time to let down his guard. "Beaumont.. How's your ego barrier? Can you detect others at all.."
"Shot to hell.. I can't risk exposing my mind right now or there's going to be severe feedback.." Beaumont said with a small frown. "If a situation arises where it's vital then I'll chance it but.. It seems like this situation is resolved.." Beaumont said calmly.
"Right!" Cypriss said with a laugh. "Call me a worry wart or something.." Cypriss said drawing out his gun and moving towards the door. "I'm just like this, I suppose.." He glanced back to the downed agent. "I wonder.. if she'll wake up in time for me to ask her out.."
"...GUH! What kind of priorities is that!"
"S-Sorry Monty, she's just cute, y'know?" Cypriss said with a laugh.
"Seriously! You're too much!" Monty said pulling his hair. "You're honestly too much!"
