The excavation site was now clear after Johnson and Marina pulled out from the scene along with Sergeant Bradley's team, having evacuated the corrupted guards and research worker after the men were securely restrained. One of them was in a pretty bad shape after Cypriss shot him in the knee, although Liz's healing ability took care of that. “I don’t need that.” Lavender looked in Otoki's direction after hearing the veteran agent's statement. “My shell is good enough to protect my human form from contamination; I may only need to sterilize my shell once we’re done though. Besides, I won’t be able to move well in that thing.” "Well, now that's something I hadn't known from before," Lavender commented. She hadn't been commander of GLADIUS for that long to begin with anyway, and Achilles hadn't told her that Otoki's transformed mode is for the most part impervious to conventional pathogens, assuming the cause of the researchers' madness was the result of exposure to pathogens, that is. "Uhm.. Wow.. That's a lot of really important info.. Let's see... How can I sum this up in one bite sized chunk.." Cypriss mused as he activated the communicator on his watch. "Everyone, computers down here make you evil because ancient civilizations were jerks with awesome coding skills." "Cypriss?" Lavender radioed back. "Get serious, Cypriss. Are you trying to say no chemical or biological agents were involved in causing the research team's madness?" Meanwhile, having confirmed that there was no airborne contamination Cypriss removed his mask, finding it to be rather hot to wear. "Ah.. And don't worry,. I'm single so you can ask me on a date if oyu want!" Cypriss said as he gave the Chinese agent a thumbs up. Bai Ling tried to laugh, but instead found herself grimacing in pain at the gunshot wound she received to the stomach. "So it seems like our next objective is just to take that computer offline.." Cypriss mused, stroking his chin before turning over to Bai Ling, a smile on his face. "Come with me, I'll escort you to the surface while the commanders assign orders.." "Bloody hell..." Lavender whispered as she, along with everyone on the team received a series of telepathic images from Beaumont, astounded at the turn of events that had taken place prior to the beginning of all this... madness inside the mines. "... well damn," Liz sighed, apparently stunned by the revelation as well. "To think that this civilization had an actual program that could invade a person's mind and corrupt it via brainwashing... It seems to work like my EienhArtemis in a way, minus the sentience anyway. If these people are being corrupted by some kind of computer program, then chances are we can produce a program that can counter its effects, given the right coding and comparing it with the original source code. But man, these guys must have been really hardcore if they could program the whole thing purely in binary though." That being said, the blond GLADIUS operative turned to Lavender. "Well, should we ditch the NBC gear then? If we got a reliable source saying that it's not airborne at least, well, I'd rather run around in less restrictive clothing. That and as strange as this may sound, if we can get a hold of just a hard copy of the code, not a compiled version, then maybe we can come up with a countermeasure." "Well it looks like the project coordinator is alive, and we won't be needing our NBC gear; and that would be the good news," Lavender replied as she removed her respirator. Equipment like these tend to prevent her from capitalizing on her abilities anyway, so she was for the most part glad it wasn't needed. "Well, the bad news is, though... it seems our ARES colleagues probably fell prey to this mind control, and from what Beaumont had transmitted, the hard coding for the program is located in the main excavation site deep in the heart of this mine. That would mean we've got a whole bunch of our crazed colleagues to deal with on the way down," the purple-haired Esper continued grimly, folding her arms across her chest. "Are you ready then?" Lavender looked at her agents with an expression of resolution and intensity written all over her face. |

"Ready as I'll never be." Emilya responded, propping up her projected weapons against the mine's wall before ditching her own gear. It'd be hard to actually fight the way she normally does so she was fairly glad that it wasn't necessary anymore. As such, she picked up her swords and gripped them tightly. It looks like the situation was the one they feared the most. |

Cypriss scooped up Bailing carefully, considering she was seriously injured. He moved carefully back, avoiding any movement of enemies until he reached the main party. 'Beaumont.. I'm going to help the Ares Team..' 'Of course you are, you're and idiot. I didn't expect any less..' '.. I'll be careful, So I guess I'll see you-' 'I'm going too, of course..' '..?!' 'What can I say.. You're my partner, if you're going into danger then I'm going to be your shield! I'll guide you and protect you.. That's how this works right?' 'Beaumont.. You're really a good friend..' Cypriss said rubbing his neck. 'You two realize everyone can hear this right?' Johnson said flatly. 'Beaumont connected to everyone's mind to project the memories. We're all listening in on this heart warming little chat you two are having..' "..!" Beaumont's eyes widened as he looked around. Cypriss facepalmed. 'Beaumont..' 'I guess I'm out of here then.. Got to head topside.. You two try not to get in the way..'' Johnson said mentally, planting his fists in his side as he walked to the shaft. Cypriss took Bai Ling to Liz. "She's injured so I'm leaving her in your hands.." He grinned broadly. "She's too cute for a scar so heal her up proper, okay?" he then pulled on his gloves, checked his knife and pulled out his handgun ejecting the clip and replacing it. "Unit 26 is going to provide support to ARES. We'll follow your lead since we're less familliar in this department. Feel free to use each of us as needed.." He spun his gun on his fingertip, holstering it on his side. "Cheh.. Showoff.." Beaumont said folding his arms across his chest. Edited by Cypriss, May 7 2009, 11:08 AM.

Liz chuckled a bit at the exchange between Beaumont and Cypriss (and, well, the rest of unit 26 in general). <Awww, aren't they cute?> Like two assholes on their first date. G... gao. If you ladies are done kissing, we've got some asskicking to do! And if the subject is injured, bring her to me for healing! Liz thought out loud for Cypriss to hear as she too ditched the NBC gear. "Well, I'm ready to roll out. I'm gonna stick with Emilya here as a buddy, if that's fine with you," she told the silver-haired ARES member. And for the love of God, please cover us. I really don't want to have to show up just to save our skin. If I'm forced to fight in Eliza-dono's place, then the free healing ride's off, Kanna warned them as well, though it did take a good while to translate and think of the words to say in English. "Lavender to EMTs, stand by for evac - we've got another one coming your way," Lavender radioed to the medical personnel stationed topside as Cypriss and Beaumont approached her team's location, with Cypriss carrying an injured Bai Ling in his arms. "Roger that, ma'am," one of the medics replied as Sergeant Bradley's men readied the service elevator in preparation for another evacuation. "Liz, Bai Ling's in a pretty bad shape... are you able to do something about it?" Lavender examined the project coordinator as Cypriss brought her over to Liz - with the way her clothing was soaked with blood and given the poor lighting conditions, Lavender could not make out the full extent of the Chinese agent's injury - although it was no doubt a pretty serious one; it was really a miracle at all how she was able to make it this far on her own. |

Arutha tossed off the helmet and respirator, the only part of the suit he was wearing since the photo armor would prevent anything from getting into him through his clothing. He was also raising an eyebrow at the conversations going on inside of his head. He wasn't thinking of it, nor did he have any control over it, but apparently it was a telepathic communication system of some sort. By now however, he was more annoyed at the lack of light, though it might have been necessary before, now it was just a hindrance. Nevertheless though, they were about to make their move...And things were most likely about to get dangerous. Arutha took in a breath, resisting the urge to grimace at the musty air, and began to bend the light within his prism pendant. He could make it last if it didn't leave him, and if he didn't overwork what he had on him. Using the light, he created a pair of simple kunais, the smallest blades could get while keeping it's efficiency. The blades had been glowing fairly brightly, but gradually the light dimmed down until it was dimmer than a pair of glowsticks for stealth reasons, though they were still fairly visible in the dark. "Haven't done much, but ready to take anything, be it guns of blades." Arutha said, gripping the two kunai handles, satisfied with his quick work. |

"Liz, Bai Ling's in a pretty bad shape... are you able to do something about it?" Lavender asked as Cypriss brought the wounded project coordinator to Liz. "Well, I can certainly try. Though I can't guarantee that it wont hurt like hell in the process," Liz chuckled. "Put her down and keep her still, Cypriss, this'll take a while. If you got some anesthesia or sedatives, it'll help ease the pain." Regardless of what Cypriss decided what to do, as soon as he made up his mind she pressed her hand against Bai Ling's wound and activated her regeneration powers. Unlike the other person who got shot earlier and was subsequently knocked out, Bai Ling was perfectly awake for the entire thing. If Cypriss decided to sedate her somehow, the pain would be lessened, but if he didn't, he might have to hold her down. The tissue around the wounds where Liz put her hands over as well as any torn muscle around it would restructure itself, also spitting out any stray foreign objects like bullets and the like out as well as drying the blood. "... There, that should do it. But she'll probably still need a blood transfusion if she's lost a lot of blood," Liz added when she was done. |

Cypriss frowned taking out an autoinjecter. What was it Marina had said when knocking out that guard? "Ah! Right.." He looked down and in a cool voice. "Goodnight, Jocelyn.." "It was Gracie.. Idiot.." Beaumont said with a huff. "D-Darnit I want a do over!" He said as Bailing passed out. Cypriss stood and flashed a thumbs up at Liz. "Good work, I'll leave the rest to you.." With this he turned to face the new kid. "Hey redhead.." He said walking over to the new guy. "It's nice to meet you!" He held out a hand. "I'm another light manipulator.. I use sunlight to focus into beams and such.." He tilted his head smiling warmly. "I'll take care of you, since you're a newbie.." "Beaumont looked away and adjusted his glasses. "If we're done acting like kids on a field trip there are some highly dangerous mind controlled crazies on the lower levels that we need to eliminate.." he turned to Lavender. "At your command, sir." He said lowing his head in a small bow. |

"Heh, I don't mind." Emilya told Liz with a smirk in regards to the whole buddy deal. "And I take it we're done with this part? I'd imagine it'd be best if we hurried to the main frame thingy, lest this situation get worse then it already is." she mused, she was getting kind of antsy, really. |

Lavender performed a brief head count after an unconscious Bai Ling was evacuated to the surface - so far there's herself, Arutha, Otoki, Emilya, Liz, Beaumont and Cypriss. Sorry Johnson, it looks like I'll have to use your Unit 26 boys Cypriss and Beaumont on the team for the time being. The commander of GLADIUS relayed her thoughts to Johnson via Beaumont's mental link. Lavender unfurled a map of the mine's layout which she had brought with her, reading it with the help of a small LED flashlight. According to the projections sent by Beaumont after reading Bai Ling's mind, the main excavation site where the ruins were discovered lay in the deepest section of the mine. The tunnel network beyond their current location led mostly to smaller excavation sites, and possibly into ambushes. For a minute Lavender studied the map, trying to find the quickest way to the elevator shaft that will take them into the second underlevel of the mine. The quickest way so far appeared to be to keep heading west, followed by taking a northeast fork passing through another work area before arriving at the elevator. "All right team, let's move!" Lavender announced as she furled up the map. "Emilya, stay close to Liz and guard her well; Cypriss, as our stealth specialist you'll scout ahead of us and keep us updated on dead ends and ambushes. Beaumont, stick close with Emilya and Liz at the rear - use your Esper field to keep us in contact and to scan for enemies. Otoki, stay beside me at the front. And Arutha, keep guard over our rear flanks." Lavender delegated each agent's role before they proceed deeper into the mines. "Cypriss, take this..." Lavender said as she handed Cypriss the map, with the proposed route Lavender had planned traced out in red pencil. "Keep us updated in the event we need to deviate from the planned path. And be careful when scouting ahead - in the event combat engagement is inevitable wait for us to catch up before engaging any hostiles." Edited by Lawman, May 7 2009, 08:52 PM.

Cypriss nodded slowly. "Everywhere I go.. The job is always the same.." Cypriss said amused, havign to cover point again despite being on ARES now.. '..Where'd you get that one?' 'Huh? Oh, story on the internet about a gun user and a psychic!' "I'll give the map to Beaumont.. He can guide me mentally.." He handed it over and ruffled up Monty's hair. "Be careful down here Monty!" "Ch-cheh! I'm a trained agent too you know.." He glanced towards the floating form of his brother. "Besides, I have a power to protect me.. A guardian.. So I'm okay.." He said moving forward. He focused, expanding his mind out as far as he could. "Okay. .Let's begin.." Cypriss nodded, moving head for the group. He stopped, and took this time to bend the light around him, fading out of sight. He sprinted forward quickly ahead of them. But due to his training he was a silent as ever. Beaumont was guiding him easily through the tunnels. 'Cypriss on point.. Myself in the rear.. Somehow that's symbolic I tihnk..' Beaumont thought to himself, not bothering to read the map due to his photographic memory. |

Otoki nodded a silent acknowledgement at the formation set up by Lavender, and was only pleased to be at the front: more chances for him to run ahead and confront the enemy head on before they could inflict harm on him or the others. He wouldn't have it any other way of course. He went on silently with the group walking deeper into the mines besides Lavender all the while holding his Ongekikan Reppu at the ready with two hands. His ears too, are also set to listen for any sounds that are not made by them; even if they can’t see something coming, he should be able to hear something; like the soft crunching of the sand and rock beneath them and the quiet hum of running electricity for example. |

"Normally I dislike having to cover someone's ass, but I can't complain when the one I have to cover is nice to look at." Emilya mused with a smirk, and as ordered was sticking close to her new found buddy, though she seemed to be walking a little behind her instead. Of course, despite her aloofness, she was still on guard, and even prepared her reinforcement on her own eyes, may as well try and spot anything up ahead on her own as well and all that. |

With Cypriss scouting ahead of the party and with Beaumont guiding the rest of the team by keeping everyone mentally linked. With careful and coordinated movements, Lavender and the rest of the team easily navigated the tunnels - there were the occasional patrols consisting of corrupted OASIS personnel - but with advance warnings from Cypriss and Beaumont, and with Otoki's heightened senses checking in on any surprises that may attempt to sneak up on them, they were easily avoided. Things had for the most part gone on without a hitch until they reached the portion of the tunnels that would lead them to the elevator that would take them to the lower levels of the mines, where the ruins and computer mainframe were located. With Cypriss being ahead of the party, he would soon see what the problem was. The elevator was located at the end of a large excavation chamber, inside which there was a rather large mob of corrupted personnel, numbering two dozen in all - although this time most of them were unarmed researchers and miners, with only four armed guards (two with assault rifles and another two with shotguns) among their number. This part of the mines had a separate power grid, and was well-lighted - if they were to get past the corrupted OASIS personnel with as little violence as possible, it was clear that a distraction tactic was needed to throw them off guard. |

'Hurm.. Enemies that out number us.... This is a classic 'banana and button' scenario..' Cypriss thought to himself.. '.... He can't.. he can't have meant bait and switch right?! its too stupid..' 'Guys, up front are a bunch of foes that outnumber us... I can't get around them so I'm going to heroically sacrifice myself by charging in blind!' '... Don't make bad jokes mid-operation.' 'Right. So what's the plan glorious leader?' 'I'm only field leader in HERMES missions.. We're on ARES stuff..' 'Right, so we need a plan..' Cypriss said to all involved Beaumont stroked his chin, he transmitted to everyone around ihm his 3-d mental image of the space with the positions of the soldiers as he detected them. "You should all be grateful of my perfect memory and spatial awareness.. This kind of image is a fortunate thing to have for otherwise blind planning.. So what's the plan here?"
