Despite being one of the first few members who made use of the teleportation system back when it was first implemented, Otoki can never find himself getting use to what ever it does when it teleports people from one place to another. The result is disconcerting and uncomfortable for him, especially when he is quite sensitive to sound which the teleportation process makes the kind that’s not nice to his ears. That said, he was quick to recover from the whole thing after years of practice using it. Once they hit the LZ, so to speak, he was already down flat on the ground before he could register the noise of gunfire in the air, a practice he learned the hard way once when he got a bullet in his should once they arrived at the ‘hot’ LZ. This at least would give him some time to consider his next course of action while also not making himself a target. From the exchange between the others that he was able to hear, it was clear that there is one thing he needs to do now right away. “Senki… Youshiki.” He whispered softly the short chant before suddenly shouting, “Otoki!” As he picked himself up from his prone position, his entire body suddenly burst into red flames that swallowed him up instantly! Otoki’s burning figure would be quite a scare to those who don’t know him quite well yet, and that’s exactly what he’s betting on to happen to the offending sergeant who was shooting at them with small arms fire. “Hoh!” Otoki cried, his voice sounding strange from the fire. With that cry, the flame suddenly dissipates, and a hulking red and black armored figure replaced Otoki’s human figure before the he was enveloped in flames earlier, now running towards the last threat standing. Oto Soujuu; Kiboujutsu Otakebi! As he closed the distance between himself and the sergeant, Otoki’s ‘face’ formed a fanged mouth where it should be on a human face. He then stopped right in front of the man, pulled a deep breath… and then came the sound of something inhuman. It was a roar, but unlike anything that can be produced by any animal. The sound waves that was coming from Otoki reverberated throughout the tunnels, and it would sent the sergeant flying off his feet backward before he would slam bodily on the rock wall behind him. "Eh?" Was just about all Arutha could say when he suddenly appeared in a dark cave. Good GOD that was disorienting. First he was in a nicely furnished building brightly lit with sunlight, now THIS?! Ugh. He disliked teleporting. He quickly found himself being shot at though, and one bullet actually hit him! Luckily though, it was not in his head, nor was it anywhere near enough to pierce through his photo armor, so all it did was knock him down, though he quickly got back up, albeit in pain. "Ow, shit. Standby? Roger." Arutha said, doing as he was ordered while rubbing the sore spot on his waist. A little bit to the side and, well, he and any other guy wouldn't even want to THINK about it. He suddenly saw the old man transform into...Something. A demon? Maybe something along those lines, but at least he was on there side. Arutha instinctively covered his ears when he heard an extremely loud and somewhat irritating noise. "Aye! Someone's got strong lungs!" Arutha said, uncovering his still ringing ears. Jeeze, what were they thinking sending him on this as an initiation? |

Cypriss turned to Liz, grinning. "Same to you!" He moved his shield as the assault began. A long range vocal blast which seemed to do the nonlethal trick. He turned invisible. 'Lead me Beaumont!' 'Right, follow my commands!' Even in the darkness of the tunnels Cypriss never made a single misstep as he moved quickly. In a flash he was upon the downed soldiers with the autoinjector tool. Silent as a still night, this was the fruit of seven years of training. This time it was Johnson speaking. 'Unit 26, we're going to continue our rescue operation using Beaumont's ability to find minds and Cypriss' power to search undetected I'll stay back and protect Beaumont.... We'll leave Ares to wipe the floor with the grunts.' 'Yes sir!' 'Yes sir!' Beaumont walked slowly down the tunnel, emerging from where he'd been positioned. His large guardian floating at his side. He took a knee, extending his mind down the spiderweb of tunnels. He opened a mental communication with only Cypriss and Johnson, now. 'I'll guide you to the other person I detected..' |

Lacking a standing order, Marina had a more pressing question, considering the situation AND their previous warning. "Why the isnt the Ares team in NBC gear!?" she called out over the sound of the shockwave. Were they mad!? Considering risk of possible contamination and the fact they were going deep into a mine, SCBA gear and at least some form of HAZMAT protection was in called for, and yet the Ares team was not equipped in such a way. |

Emilya and Liz pulled back, with neither of them possessing the proper abilities to handle the current situation as the teleport gateway closed, shrouding the chamber in darkness once more, although the darkness was intermittently lit up by muzzle flashes from the corrupted guards' gunfire. “Senki… Youshiki.” Lavender heard Otoki chant in the darkness. “Otoki!” As he finished his chant, Otoki's was engulfed in red flames, lighting up the surroundings - while it would be quite a shock to the uninitiated, Lavender knew full well that for him, it means the action has only just begun. “Hoh!” Otoki's voice now sounded different as the flames surrounding his body dissipated with his shout, revealing a powerfully-built figure in red and black armor, running straight at the corrupted sergeant who just fired at him. Oto Soujuu; Kiboujutsu Otakebi! The GLADIUS veteran let loose a mighty roar, but it was a roar which didn't sound like it was produced by any known animal, and it was so powerful it seemed to shake the surrounding walls, knocking the man clear off his feet, and slamming backwards into the wall behind him. "Nice one, Otoki-san!" Lavender said as she used her Aero Whip to yank the weapon out of the hands of another mind-controlled guard, before seizing him using her whip of energized air and sending the man flying towards her. As the corrupted guard hurtled through the air towards Lavender, the purple-haired Esper smashed her elbow into his face, knocking the fight out of him as the man flew back and landed on his back against the gravel. Cypriss took care of the rest by sedating them the moment they were downed, the HERMES operative never missing a step even in the inky blackness. "That took care of them," Lavender mused as she got down on a knee to inspect one of the guards who had been knocked out, before transmitting a signal to all the minds present that Beaumont had linked together. This is Lavender. Hostiles neutralized, area is secure. Bradley, get your men in line - we're evacuating the first batch of prisoners and one uncorrupted survivor from the research team. "You got it!" Sergeant Bradley replied as he rested his assault rifle on his right shoulder and raised his left hand, gesturing for his team of ATHENA division guards to move out. Unit 26, we're going to continue our rescue operation using Beaumont's ability to find minds and Cypriss' power to search undetected I'll stay back and protect Beaumont.... We'll leave Ares to wipe the floor with the grunts. Johnson relayed his thoughts. Marina, Johnson, assist Sergeant Bradley and his team in evacuating the prisoners and survivor - I want the prisoners securely restrained and brought topside for medical assessment and interrogation, and see to it that the survivor from the research team gets medical attention. Cypriss, Beaumont - report to me your findings about this other uncorrupted survivor once you come across him or her. Everyone else, stand by and await further instructions. The light switch must be somewhere around here... Bai Ling thought as she ran her hands across the wall, trying to feel around for the light switch which the corrupted guards had earlier on used to kill the lighting in the tunnels. Unknown to the project coordinator, though was that Cypriss, mentally guided by Beaumont was heading down the tunnel fork in her direction. Edited by Lawman, May 5 2009, 02:24 PM.

Liz sighed at Marina's complaint regarding the NBC gear. "You guys didn't indicate a need for the gear, only that the enemies were in a heightened state! If you guys have any spares, they would be nice to get some right about now!" Liz groaned. "If we're facing the risk of possible viral contamination, then I can't go near shit until I have proper gear!" With that, Liz turned to Lavender. "Lavender, is it still possible to contact HQ and have them teleport some NBC gear for us? Marina's right, it wouldn't be wise for any of us to continue further without it." Had it been Misuzu, she would have just whimpered in the corner, and had it been Kanna, she would have just argued the point with Marina. Liz however, didn't like pointing fingers at people and blaming them for mistakes. If mistakes were made, the first thing she did was fix them immediately if possible, and in this case, if they could get spare NBC gear on the double, then all the better. "You guys didn't indicate a need for the gear, only that the enemies were in a heightened state! If you guys have any spares, they would be nice to get some right about now!" Liz sighed at Marina's remark. "If we're facing the risk of possible viral contamination, then I can't go near shit until I have proper gear!" That being said, her attention was turned next to Lavender. "Lavender, is it still possible to contact HQ and have them teleport some NBC gear for us? Marina's right, it wouldn't be wise for any of us to continue further without it." Lavender nodded at Liz's statement - it would appear as though the command outpost topside had miscommunicated part of the findings made by the HERMES team. But Liz was right - there is no point arguing anything, but instead one should focus on getting things back on the right track. Achilles, contact our HQ back at Nova Oasis - tell them to send in spare NBC protection gear for the ARES personnel on the field - that would be Arutha, Emilya, Liz, Otoki and myself. Lavender relayed her thoughts to Achilles. Got it, over and out. An ATHENA division operative relayed his thoughts back as moments later, the teleport beacon on the ground began glowing again, releasing its characteristic crackling sphere of energy as something was being sent over from the HQ. As the chamber was momentarily illuminated, one could make out an equipment crate, marked by the GLADIUS operatives as NBC gear. "Well, looks like they were quick to respond," Lavender mused as she walked over to the crate, gesturing for the operatives who aren't garbed in NBC gear to follow her lead. The GLADIUS operatives had conveniently taped a pair of light sticks onto the lid of the crate to mark its location as Lavender popped the lid open, retrieving the crate's contents. "All right team, suit up before we proceed." "This is Sergeant Bradley and team, reporting in," A voice, slightly muffled by a protective respirator called out as a team of NBC garbed ATHENA division operatives entered the excavation site from the general operations area, their flashlights illuminating the way ahead. "So, you called to have a group of crazies bagged and brought topside?" The sergeant gestured towards the handcuffed male researcher who had earlier tried to attack Johnson before being chained up, sedated and then subsequently handcuffed and restrained. Nodding, one of the men moved forward to carry the still-unconscious researcher on his shoulder. Edited by Lawman, May 5 2009, 03:16 PM.

"Much obliged," Liz said to Lavender before taking the gear and quickly equipping it, making sure not to leave any areas exposed. Now that she was wearing it, she turned to Emilya as soon as she was suited up. "Cover me," she asked before quickly running to the man who was shot in the knee earlier and handcuffed him before healing his leg. "Wouldn't want to accidentally unsedate you in the process after all, eh?" she mused before wondering whether unsedate was even a proper word. "I got a crazy over here, restrained, healed up and ready for transport." She also sighed behind her mask. "I really hope I don't have to keep doing this though." Gunshot wounds were one thing, but severed limbs were another, and she really didn't want to have to deal with that. |

Rule 63 is fun.

It didn't long for Emilya to get suited up, there was really no room to complain and it sure beats being turned against the others. Regardless she followed right after Liz, all but muttering one phrase. "Trace on." and in an instant, she'd be armed with her favored weapons, the pair of swords she loved so much. Hopefully she wouldn't need to use them on the guy Liz was dealing with, though. |

'Eh.. It's a woman..?' Cypriss said grinning cheeruflly. 'Yes, from her mind I can begin to piece together what happened here..' 'Really, go ahead and tell me then.' 'Well, It se-' 'You know what annoys me? Sorry to interrupt. But it seems like everything someone knows what's going on in a movie they get killed right after. It's like the writers are trying to artificially lengthen the movie.. It's not even like the delaying of the big reveal helps the tension at all.. It's just stupid..' 'I agree! I hate it when that happens! It's like you're finally going to get some answers and the writers yank it away from you.' 'Yeah! Like in Gundam 00 when the scientist who figures out the Jupiter thing dies." "YES!" '... what were we talkign about..?' 'I forgot.. But it looks like Bai Ling is just up ahead..' Cypriss quickly moved ahead, shedding his invisibility. "Bai Ling..?" He said creating a small glow with his hand. "I'm Agent Ghost of GLADIUS, HERMES branch.. I'm here to help.. What exactly happened here?" |

"Shit!" Bai Ling hissed as she noticed someone in a covert ops suit and gas mask approaching her, his hand producing a beam of light like a torch - if those corrupted personnel have found her, she certainly wasn't about to go down without a fight as she raised her pistol. "Bai Ling..?" Cypriss asked. The project coordinator lowered her weapon as soon as she noticed that his eyes weren't glowing red like the others. "I'm Agent Ghost of GLADIUS, HERMES branch.. I'm here to help.. What exactly happened here?" "Ah wait, you're not one of the red eyes." agent Bai Ling noted as she breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat off her forehead and sweeping aside her fringe which had become plastered to her forehead by her perspiration. "I was wondering when the headquarters was going to send a search and rescue team, but it's a good thing they did. However, this is only the beginning..." The Chinese agent paused to catch her breath. "I suppose I would need to tell you how it all began..." [Flashback: Three days ago] "Charges are in place, stand by for detonation," a demolitions specialist, a middle-aged white man with short brown hair and a handlebar mustache - spoke as raised his hand and gestured for the miners and research workers to stay clear and take cover after sticks of dynamite were fitted into a series of twelve holes bored into the surface of a solid rock wall. "Contact in three... two... one!" The demolitions specialist pressed the button on the detonator. KABOOM! The underground chamber shook as the charges were detonated, sending a rush of air and a cloud of dust along everyone's way. As the smoke and dust cleared, the team found themselves looking at a gaping hole in the rock face. "HA! Success!" the demolitions expert cheered as he pumped his right fist triumphantly in the air. Bai Ling nodded as she stepped forward first to examine the opening, motioning for the ARES team to follow as she removed her protective goggles. "You first, lieutenant Weißkreuz," Bai Ling gestured for the lieutenant leading the team of ARES agents to enter the opening first. A tall, powerfully-built man sporting a military-style square cut and dressed in a black tank top and gray camouflage pants stepped forward. The burly lieutenant of the ARES team shouted as he used his Manifestation of Might, the man's body encased in an energy aura as runic markings covered his face, chest and arms like a series of luminescent tattoos, energy surging through the lieutenant's body and transforming him into a superhuman powerhouse. Lieutenant Weißkreuz entered the opening, raising a halogen lamp to illuminate the surroundings. It was apparent that there was no living thing inside the area for a long, long time. "Coast is clear," the agent replied in his German accent, gesturing for Bai Ling to follow, along with a team of OASIS researchers. "Amazing..." Bai Ling gasped in awe as she surveyed the underground chamber - approximately five stories high, and hemispherical in shape. "I'm getting a rather familiar vibe about the design and architecture of this place, however..." she mused as she paused to inspect the furnishing present in this dome-shaped chamber. "The architecture bears great similarities to what the Nova Oasis team found at the foothills of Mount Prometheus years back," A bespectacled research worker noted as she examined the chamber. "So you mean..." Another researcher added. "Yes," a smile dawned on Bai Ling's face. "Can you believe it? An advanced civilization that possibly predates humanity!" "What have you got there, Jones?" Bai Ling turned towards a researcher who was scrutinizing the ceiling. "Well... I'm checking out the carvings on the ceiling..." the researcher replied. "It's clear to me it's a language..." "Well, have this place thoroughly illuminated... we'll copy down the writings to examine them in greater detail." [Flashback: Yesterday] "I've got it, ma'am!" The chief programmer assigned to the team spun around his swivel chair to face Bai Ling. "What is it?" Bai Ling asked. "You know the carvings inside that chamber we excavated two days ago?" the programmer asked. "It turns out that they were actually numbers - and to be more precise just two sets of numbers..." "Binary code?" Bai Ling cocked her head slightly to the left. "That's what I think it is!" The programmer exclaimed excitedly. Bai Ling smiled as she rested her hand on the IT specialist's shoulder. "You all did well these past few weeks, and now this might yet be our biggest breakthrough. Spread the word around; we're calling for a party to celebrate!" Bai Ling let go and turned around to walk away, before giving her colleague a thumbs-up. [Present Day...] "Apparently someone ignored the warnings from the ALPHA Labs and went ahead to compile the binary codes to see what kind of program would they get," Bai Ling spoke as she rested her back against a nearby wall. "The next thing we knew was that half of the team went berserk and started killing their colleagues... from the look of things, it seems we have unknowingly activated what appeared to be a self-aware defense program for an ancient civilization... and it obviously sees us as the enemy." "I know not what this ancient... for the lack of a better term, Machine Conscience is capable of, but so far, it would appear that anyone who looks at the computer screen of any computer that is hooked up to the research team's network would become one of those red-eyed lunatics who would attack on sight anyone who isn't one of them," Bai Ling continued gravely. "I think it's broadcasting some kind of signal that 'corrupts' brain activity. But whatever it is, do not look into any computers - that's all I can say." |

When the rest of the operatives went to suit up in the NBC gear, Otoki did not make a move towards the equipment crate itself, instead opting to take note of his surroundings while unholstering the bronze trumpet gun on his right, then giving it a quick look to see if it was in working order. “I don’t need that.” He said out loud before anybody would ask him, pointing to the equipment crate and its content with a thumb. “My shell is good enough to protect my human form from contamination; I may only need to sterilize my shell once we’re done though. Besides, I won’t be able to move well in that thing.” His check complete, he then thumbed two of the valves on top; one for the rapid fire burst setting, the other to keep the sound leaving the barrel at a slightly lower octave, a stun setting of sort. It would still hurt, but at least it won’t be lethal enough to kill. The setting will stay until the situation changes later on. “I’m ready.” He said finally, turning and approaching the others. |

"Uhm.. Wow.. That's a lot of really important info.. Let's see... How can I sum this up in one bite sized chunk.." Cypriss turned on his comm watch. "Everyone, computers down here make you evil because ancient civilizations were jerks with awesome coding skills." He took off his hazmat mask breathing in the fresh air. "Well at least it's not an airborne pathogen.. this mask is hot.." "Ah.. And don't worry,. I'm single so you can ask me on a date if oyu want!" He said smiling broadly flashing a thumbs up at her. 'Idiot..' Beaumont relayed the entire story to everyone mentally, using a strange.. almost flashback-esque method of directly relaying her memories to their minds. Soon everyone in the group would have the full, unabridged story of what happened. 'There.. Now everyone is PROPERLY informed..' "So it seems like our next objective is just to take that computer offline.." Cypriss siad stroking his chin. "Sounds like an Ares job to me.." He smiled at Bai Ling. "Come with me, I'll escort you to the surface while the commanders assign orders.." |

Liz blinked when she felt Beaumont transmit the info to the rest of the team and saw the flashback, and gasped when she found out that it was basically a program that was driving people berserk here and causing them to attack each other. "... well damn," she sighed. "To think that this civilization had an actual program that could invade a person's mind and corrupt it via brainwashing... It seems to work like my EienhArtemis in a way, minus the sentience anyway. If these people are being corrupted by some kind of computer program, then chances are we can produce a program that can counter its effects, given the right coding and comparing it with the original source code. But man, these guys must have been really hardcore if they could program the whole thing purely in binary though." She turned to Lavender at that. "Well, should we ditch the NBC gear then? If we got a reliable source saying that it's not airborne at least, well, I'd rather run around in less restrictive clothing. That and as strange as this may sound, if we can get a hold of just a hard copy of the code, not a compiled version, then maybe we can come up with a countermeasure." |
