Europe. A land filled with culture and good taste. And none more so than the great city of Paris. No matter what hour of the day or night it was, the city exubriated beauty. However, night was preferrable for travel. People were always so dsitracted by the shining lights and bustling nightlife fashion that they paid the bland and quiet no heed. No one noticed a man wandering around in a dark cloak as long as he kept out of the main thoroughfairs within the city. However, tonight was no such for secrecy and disguise. Even an immortal needed to make a life worth living. Doned in a sleeck black attire or long black shirt with sleeves rolled up, collar unbutton and a pair of matching black chino pants and shoes. Terado had learned many ways to blend in. Often, looking like every other person, was one of the best ways to disguise oneself. Especially when no one really knew who he was. He had ammassed a fortune over his long life, storing it with foreign investors and using a false ever changing identity and never meeting in person. As long as the money was deposited and there were no reports of robberies or murders, bankers didn't care about their client not showing up. And whenever one alias had outlived there 'life' a new heir to the fortune was 'born'. Terado's long black ponytail swept back and forth. He'd have to cut it again if it got any longer, it was nearly touching the ground. Terado needed to gather information. Lately an organisation called the Marauders had captured his interest and he needed to find some way to first of all find where one of their bases was situated and how he could get close to their higher ups. Something may turn up, something may not. But it was the patient hunter that catches the best prey. Making his way towards a coner cafe', Terado went inside, letting the smell of coffee and pastries caress his senses. Above the beauty, the hidden pleasures and the alure of Paris, the one thing that he loved the most, was its smell. No city, compared to the refreshing smell of Paris. |

This was going to be a dangerous meeting to be sure. Lucy was not comfortable with the situation as it had been made clear to her; she knew better than most when she was being manipulated. An old and powerful Esper had surfaced somewhere in Paris and rumor has it he was searching for the Marauders. Checkmate was naturally very interested in gathering information on his abilities and motives, knowing he would make a powerful ally, but sending out her Bishop as a sheep to a wolf like him? The woman was crazy to think this was a smart move. At least, that was how it seemed to her. Ms. Darker had refused to allow her any escort such as bodyguards or even a Rook to shadow her from a distance. Even if could be perceived as an offensive gesture, it didn't seem right for her to go in alone. Lucilla wandered down a restaurant district, passing several cafes as she did. Her investigation placed him somewhere in the area, but to imagine that an ancient and powerful Esper would be hanging out in a trendy French cafe seemed somewhat peculiar. Then again, she didn't know what to expect from him and she surmised Marianne had wanted it to be that way. She was bait, simple as that. Frustrated, the young Italian girl pushed her wheelchair into a nearby corner cafe and pulled up to a table. The man behind the counter was kind enough to come and ask her what she wanted. Lucilla ordered a small coffee and pulled a small vanilla folder out from a compartment in her chair. The information she had on him was vague at best, and little was available on his appearance. If she made it out of this alive, Checkmate was never going to hear the end of this from her. |

Terado looked around the cafe'. It was quite full, as to be expected. With it being such an unpredictable night, in a place that practically never slept, one had to make due with things. The door closed behind him with a slight creak and for a moment, an odd air filled the room. Although it almost went unnoticed by those closer to the middle and back of the large cafe', those nearest to the door had ceased their conversations as Terado had entered. An unfortunate side effect from the power within him. He could mask his energy easily enough, but he could not hide the primal dominance complex that erradiated from him. He was after all a very imposing sight on looks alone, despite the fact that he only really looked in his early twenties. The customers closest to the door stared at the man, drawn in by some unseen force. Terado then began to look around for a free table, casting his gaze briefly over those nearest to him, who automatically looked away nervously, as if afraid of being hit. Terado made his way slowly down the cafe', spotting a table with only one person, a young girl in a wheelchair. Deciding that it was better than any other of the occupied tables, he moved towards it. He smelt something odd about the girl, but pushed it to the back of his mind for now. Walking up to her he spoke, his voice deep, but somewhat smooth, "May I? Every other table is pretty much full." |

Lucy flipped through page after page of material, looking for something that could give her a some new lead on the location of this mysterious Esper. She stopped when she came across the listing of his exploits, a page she had run down many times before, but still found it hard to believe. The frightening nature of this man was staggering and Lucilla could hardly believe she was supposed to find someone like this. Part of her sincerely didn't want to... "May I? Every other table is pretty much full." a voice suddenly inquired. It was deep and powerful, but graceful just the same. It reminded her of her father, though whether or not that was good thing was questionable. Of course, she couldn't have someone leaning over her work, it was distracting, not to mention the fact that it contained sensitive material regarding the Marauders. Without looking up, she answered simply, "I'm sorry, but I'm quite busy, I require the- oh thank you," she said as one of the employees set down her coffee and backed away cautiously. Lucilla continued as she picked up her coffee for a small sip, "As I was saying, I require the-" she finally caught a glimpse of the man as she tipped the cup to her mouth. Her hands stopped quite suddenly, but cautiously went back down, setting the cup on the table. Of course, it could not have been an ordinary man. He was gargantuan and the way he stood, well, an air of power seemed to surround him. It seemed rude...and probably suicidal to deny him a seat. Lucy quickly scooped up the scattered papers and jammed them into the folder. "P-please, take a seat." she politely added. |

Terado raised a curious eyebrow at the girl. He behavior was odd. She was clearly going to turn him away before she looked up at him. Was his pressence really that intimida- Stupid question, of course it was. His lycanthrope blood caused him to be well above average height and the three spirits around his person leaked out plently of feral energy. But he wasn't going to complain, it got him a table at the very least. The waiter stood there on tender hooks, clearly afraid of Terado, but awaiting his order with great anticipation so that it would give him an excuse to leave. Terado looked him up and down first, before saying, "Mochiatto. No cinnamon." The waiter nodded, scribbling it down as he scurried off. Watching him leave, Terado then turned his attention to Lucy, "Thank you for allowing me to join you. I am," one of his many aliases, "Jean-Jerrad de Cruso. A pleasure to meet you." he said extending a hand to Lucy. What could such a young girl, in a wheelchar no less, have so much paper work here for? This wasn't exactly the most quiet setting to do work in... |

She extended her hand to meet his, her other moving a few strands of hair away from her face. "Oh, well, it's a pleasure to meet you Monsieur de Cruso." Lucilla said politely. There was no chance this guy was French. Even she could tell that, but what reason did she have to be suspicious of a complete stranger? There was something highly unusual about him, an aura, a dark cloud, something. She stared at him for a moment before realizing she herself was the one acting suspicious. Quickly, she let go of his hand and laughed nervously. "I'm sorry, I must introduce myself as well. My name is Lucilla Nazario, it's very nice to meet you." she said, thinking immediately afterwards she should have used a fake name. There was always a chance someone had heard of her and the last thing she needed was someone like him following her. Unless that was what Checkmate had counted on with this. Was she using her fame as a shield against the possibility of her death? She was beginning to doubt her decision to join with Marauders. Of course, she had now just spent more time staring, thinking about Marianne's diabolical nature rather than acting normal. Though, judging by his appearance and the atmosphere he carried with him, he was probably used to people acting this way around him. Lucy picked up her coffee and took a long drink to focus herself. She would have to get rid of him or find a way to politely leave. This investigation was too important to take a break for small talk with scary French giants. |

Terado should have recieved an award for his pokerface by this time and age. He remained calm and apparantly unknowing of Lucilla's status, even though he knew the Nazzario name very well. What was such a high class person inher condition, doing out here all alone? It certainly reaked of something fishy. But had she perhaps run away from her high pressured life? It wasn't unheard of, but Terado hadn't witnessed something like this in nearly a hundred years and back then it was an extremely rare occurance given the class system here in Europe. The waiter returned with Terado's drink, placing it down hastily before going to attend to another table. "Its a pleasure." he replied smiling warmly, much warmer than he had been before. Terado was starting to relax now. He watched Lucy begin downing her coffee and raised a hand, tell her to stop. "Please, we're not American" which was true seeing as America hadn't even been founded when Terado was born, "Sip the coffee slowly, enjoy it. I doubt you're in a rush to go anywhere, Miss Nazzario." Terado took up his own cup and sipped the coffee, looking over the brim at her with a knowing set of eyes. He was interested now more than ever. A girl, who could be classified as noble, on her own in what could possibly one of the most hazrdous Paris streets in terms of rowdy merrimaking. "So, did your office shut down for the night and leave you with all that paperwork?" said Terado tilting his head towards the documents Lucy had near her. |

Just her luck, he didn't seem to recognize her, or if he did, he made no indication of it. It was tough to apply conventional thought to someone like this, nothing he did felt natural. It wasn't just his stature, it was...something else. "Jean" objected to the way she took her drink and she quickly set it down, clearing her throat and regaining full composure. He seemed determined to keep her here now, did he suspect something? Was he more than just a stranger? What if he was actually...no, she couldn't consider it just yet. If she started acting under that kind of presumption, she could potentially give away valuable information to a stranger, or worse. Lucy maintained her calm, this was just like the sit-downs her father used to take her too. Dangerous men with dangerous motives. As he mentioned her folder, the young Nazario slipped it further out of view, under her arm. "Actually, I'm only in France on business, this is all just boring presentation material." She said convincingly, taking a slow, comfortable sip from her cup. If he wouldn't let her go, the very least she could do was play along and find out who he was and if he really did have an ulterior motive. "I must look awfully out of place around here, but you know how boss' are, they don't really give you any choice." Lucy laughed naturally, though secretly imagining whacking Marianne in the back of the head with a bottle. "You seem a little out of place yourself," she said, gesturing back to the people who had reacted rather intensely to him when he entered. "Are you from around here? Or just vacationing perhaps?" Great, a conversational chess game. She HATED chess games. |

"Such a shame you have to waste time with work in such a beautiful city. You must really be really good at your job for you boss to tell you to make a presentation in your condition. No offense." Terado took another sip of his coffee, feeling that there were still several eyes on him from various corners of the cafe'. That folder seemed precious to her. Although it wasn't really a cause for concern at this case. Terado could smell this girl's fear easily enough, so he knew she was lying. She was playing cat and mouse with him. Why not play a little? After all, what did he have to fear? He placed the cup back on its saucer and spoke once again, "In all honesty. I don't know what a boss is like. I'm an entrepeneur. Selling my wares where I see fit." Needless to say Terado was set for a hundred lifetimes because of it. When asked about him being here, Terado laughed a bit, "Well you're a sharp tac aren't you? In all honesty, it has been a while since I visited Paris. I'm actually here, believe it or not, for the Grandmaster's Chess Series." With the Marauders pawns as my victims and their nobility as my prize. "Although I'm sure someone of my stature would be more suited to something like wrestling, no? My father never really did approve of my lifestyle choice." There, let her chew on that for a bit. This girl was worried about something. Possibly the answers were inside that file. Terado could get it easily enough, but that would make a scene... Oh well, patience is a virtue after all. He'd learn a bit more about the dear Nazzario before finding out what she was really up to. After all, her father had once issued a search warrant for him before she was even born, if Terado remembered correctly. After destroying enough warehouses, it became hard to remember who wanted him dead for what reason. |

"Peddle your goods around Europe as you see fit and spend your downtime participating in Chess tournaments." She said smiling genuinely; it sounded like a cute life, but he didn't look the part. "Sounds eccentric, my job is sadly somewhat less glamorous, I spend most of my time playing cat and mouse with soulless, high-powered executive types with greedy ambition." Her face went somewhat somber. If this man really was who she thought it was, she saw nothing wrong with being genuine with him. He was probably just going to kill her as Marianne had predicted only to disappear and leave all responsibility for her death on him. Lucy hadn't forgotten what she had joined the Marauders for, though and even the remote chance she would hold up her end of the deal was worth her own life. "But, I guess we can't all be lucky enough to choose what we do with our lives, right?" she added, acceptingly cheerful, but edged with just a touch of sadness. "So tell me, what sort of things do you deal with Mr. Entrepreneur?" She said slyly, "I imagine traveling on your own all the time must get lonely, do you have a family?" she added. Of course, if he was this ancient-powerful Esper, he would make something up, but she wasn't concerned about that at this point. Lucy planned to make small talk until she finished her coffee and could leave. Another sip down, one more sip closer to the bottom of the cup. |

Terado smiled, "I feel for you. I used to be in your position before, but then I decided that I was better off on my own. "Even though the loneliness was forced upon Terado. The example of her work life did not go unmissed. She was definately reffering to this situation now and the air was getting tense. Oddly enough, Terado felt that perhaps there was far more to this girl than he had originally suspected, her bloodline aside. It almost felt like she was trying to get him to somehow. It was then that she asked what he kind of work he did, and then about his family and his loneliness. Terado took another sip of his coffee, a much deeper one this time. He laid it down on the table and suddenly, his friendly dispossiton changed drastically. "No. They died during an Esper attack. When they were mere bystanders during our govenours election parade." he looked at her, something in his eyes tearing deeply into her soul, "So yes, I do get lonely." Clearly Lucy had touched a nerve. But then again, Terado was overdoing things a bit. He had come to terms with his familys' deaths a long time ago, but he needed to bait her, to see how she'd react. |

Lucilla nervously took a sip of her coffee as she tried to avoid laying eyes on the man. It seemed like she had angered him a bit with her last question, but it seemed legitimate when she had said it. Another life ruined by the misuse of Esper abilities. There was a time when she had been responsible for ruining lives as well. Though she knew it wasn't her fault, she couldn't help but feel the weight of guilt and blame for the things she had done at her father's whim. Though her father had ordered it done, it was impossible to escape the guilt of having done it. Lucy set the coffee down and took the vanilla folder out from under her arm. Opening it, she flipped through a couple of pages until falling on the one with what little physical description information had been gathered over the years. It seems Marianne had deduced the fact that he had managed to stay hidden so long through the strategic use of anonymity and multiple lives. But even as that was the case, it appeared that enough people had seen him and knew who he was to make a composite ID. The description matched him perfectly and. it was not if it was a common set of characteristics. Even the intimidating aura was in there, leaving little room for doubt that this was him. Of course she had figured that out already, but part of her had hoped that it wouldn't look anything like him, or at least be questionable; then she could have just left it alone. She closed folder and set in all the way back into the compartment in her chair. Her face suddenly took on a serious expression as she prepared for confrontation. "I'm sorry for your loss..." she said simply, picking up her nearly empty coffee for a final sip. Setting it down, she cleared her throat. "If I'm not mistaken, then, we're here for the same reasons, correct?" Though her exterior was quite collected, her heart was beating like a taiko drum in her chest. "I'm fairly certain I know who you are, so if you would, please make a proper introduction." She added. Thinking on it, she probably should had said completely certain. If he simply tossed aside her suspicions, it would be extremely embarrassing and he would be left holding all the cards. |

Terado was resting his head on his knuckles, looking down at the table ans he sipped his coffee, although he spotted her opening her folder and paging through it. Perhaps she was just giving him some time by paging over her work. But there was something off about it. It wasn't some casually looking, it was as if she was searching for something specific. Not only that, but there was an odd expression on her face. He slowly took his head off his knuckles, finishing his coffee. Her deminoir was changed drastically from what it had been before. Terado's expression became loose and calm, betraying none of his former emotions as she began to speak. Her tone of voice, was she...interrogating him? Then there was that bit about a proper introduction. Terado smiled inwardly. It was very possible, that he had just found the mineshaft to the goldmine. He was always aware that he was being monitored, mainly by companies of mob groups that he himself had dedicated his time to putting a kinck in their operations. It was only natural for the Marauders to being investigating him as well. One thing he was certain of, is that they didn't know anything major, nothing expect rumours and heresay. He was a ghost, so to speak. This girl Lucy, had played her trump card, thing is, you needed to know a bit more about things. Terado decided to string her along. "The same reasons? Proper introduction? Excuse me miss but unless you are here to play chess then we have very different agendas," he then leaned in close to her over the table, staring at her with hazel eyes, "But do tell, what is it you think you know so well about me? I'm interested to hear about my reputation as a world famous chess-player." Edited by Nickle, Apr 26 2009, 03:24 AM.

Lucy's expression didn't falter one bit. It was plain to see his facial expressions betrayed his response. She had already put herself out on a limb showing her hand and he had decided to take the low road, hiding his. The advantage was now against her, but even as that was the case, she was far from out. While it might have been advantageous to simply corner him word for word, outing him on his false alibis or using the cards she had just put on the table, these were inefficient. Although it would put her in danger, the most effective method of forcing his hand, was to literally force his hand. As the giant Esper stared her down, his eyes fixed upon hers, she activated her E ability. Of course, hiding the fact that she was using it would only give him more room to deny, so she would simply tell him like it was. "As you are no doubt aware, I am an Esper like yourself. As we speak, I am attempting to force you to tell me everything about who you are and what your intentions are. If you are a human, you will not have the power of will to resist. If you are an Esper of insignificant ability, you will not be able to resist. If you are who you say you are, you should have no trouble using this knowledge to resist my power." She said bluntly. Of course, he didn't know that his intense eye contact was only serving to intensify her power. At this range, under these circumstances, it would be difficult for even a notably powerful Esper to resist without showing some signs of being affected. If he decided to continue playing dumb, he would have to tell her everything. At this point she was risking her very life, attempting to hypnotize someone like him, but even someone like him had to respect her boldness and intelligence. |

This was something of a surprise. Terado could feel her hypnotic influence invade his mind, coursing through him like some sort of poison. He could feel the spirits that he controlled did not like this at all and were already starting to push the force out, however, as for the moment, Terado was completely helpless and his outh was beginning to move of its own accord. He slowly leaned back, unable to blink or break eye contact with Lucy, and the words slowly came out, hushed so that no one else would hear. "I am impressond someone like you could wield, such power. My name is..." no matter how much he or his spirits struggled, he couldn't stop it, "Terado and I am far more than any mere Esper alive today. My duty, is to keep the balance between humans and Espers." Look away...look away...look away! Terado closed his eyes and turned his head away from Lucy, feeling the blood pounding and throbbing in his head. He hadn't said a lot, but he had said enough. This was going to cause some serious problems now if this girl was with who he thought she was... He opened his eyes and looked at her again, this time, the hazel eyes had been replaced with the feral ones of a beast. Now that he was truely on guard, it would take much more to pull that trick again and even so, he avoided looking into her eyes directly and tried to focus on her face as a whole. "A nasty little trick you have there. You almost got me." At least she didn't get the whole story. "So, tell me, who is it that wants so badly to gather information on me? The Mafia? The European Arms Trade? Or is it my new interest, the Marauders?" That file had all he needed, but right now he needed to result to hushed conversational talk so as to not arouse further worry from the other patrons. The last thing he needed was more attention. |
