Should I be smacked because I have never ever watched this movie??

Could easily recommend a blind-buy on this one Clear, I’m sure most would as well.

Truly an icon of a film, with knock-out performances. I never singularly thought of this as a Holiday film, has a bit of everything. Drama/Romance/ even some suspense.

And I’d question anyone who doesn’t break-down by the toast at the end.

Hey Cheez, how you been bro. We had a baby and everything's been crazy for the past couple of months.. have had like zero time to myself, but things are settling down now.

Welcome back Jack and congrats. I will have to pick this up as I do with most Christmas films, and as you say this is a must have. I am curious about the colorized version. I can't wait to hear about that.

The DVD release of this (Special Edition) came out last winter and I picked it up bc there was no blu in sights. Now, I can't justify a double dip unless it's really cheap.

Great movie though, and some answers:

Clear: Yes you should be slapped for never seeing this!

Jack: It doesn't pull my emotion out like it used to, perhaps because I've seen it a couple times a year for the past 15 or so years.

Jawookie: The colorized version (on the DVD) is interesting, but being a purist at heart I always partake in the black-and-white version.

So it's the same exact film stock but redone with color? Just curious how it looks is all. I have only seen the black and white and I can't imagine it changing.

Yeah, same film stock. It seems to be colorized over it. They've done this with a few other movies and it turns out fairly nice. Some scenes will seem very washed out and others will seem too bright, but for the most part it looks good - if you like that sort of thing (lol).

colorized is crap. the harryhausen bd that came w/ the colorized edition with seamless branching was neat, but it really was ugly compared to the natural beauty of black and white cinema.

and....i've never seen it either.

Thanks Ja and about the colorized version, I read the latest edition is the best of the lot. Instead of the original pastel-type painting, they went a little bit further and improved it in 89 and or the 60th anniversary, not sure what they did recently for the Blu. Igg seems to know way more about it than me.

I just couldn't bring myself to view the colorized version - sorry about that all. Loving the film and being a purist at heart... it just seems wrong on many levels.

I agree Igg, It really took me in the first couple of times and still love it, but once you know it by heart, like anything else the emotions tend to fade. But the Blu is worth it.. looks good and anyone who doesn't already own it, it's a must have. Got it from Target for $22, this week sale probably, and if you own any previous version, there is a $10 buck mail-in rebate.

Yeah, if it bounces below fifteen and still has the rebate I might get it for my wife for Christmas. This is her all-time favorite holiday movie, her second being 'A Christmas Story' of course!!
