Any one tried Wild West Skirmishes?

I'm thinking of trying Foundry's "Rules with no name" along with a handful of these or these miniatures. (Tempted by Foundry... but they seem expensive -_- )

Yes and no... I play lots of VSF with 'old west' characters (I do have a confederate army in 1886), but have never played a straight 'wild west' game. for the 'rules with no name' try to pick a copy up from one of the free download sites still around.... If you have the combat zone rules (near future skirmish) I have a set which adapts them for victorian era combat which might be of interest.

Figurewise - also check out Artizan (www.artizandesigns.com) for some nice figures, which are a wee bit cheaper than foundry. If you decided to set the game just post the civil war, then some of the more irregualr ACW figures could also be used (Perry's dismounted Confed cav for example). You might also want to look at some of the old glory old west stuff (IIRC its called 'warpaint') as well as treying to track down the 'cowboys wars' figures from OG/Westwind

I've been tempted, I was always a cow boys and indians movie fan as a kid. I was more tempted when I saw Digits(from Warseer and Ammobunker) Vulture Creek table, awesome buildings, wicked theme, all well painted, very very nice!

Your two links are to the same spot Schrodinger's cat, I'd guess that wasn't intentional?

You guess correct! I'll amend that now (was meant to be Dixon and Artizan).

Got any links to pics of that table?

I have never tired Wild West games. However I do have a handful of Artizan minis I use as Wasteland Survivors (and for some future VSF games I hope to run). The minis are nicely sculpted with little in the way of flash or mould lines. Nice to paint too.

I will be checking out wild west lines as I am looking for a suitable mini for Jon Shannow (in case you dont know the Jon Shannow novels has the world regressed to 1800's technology wise after the apocalyse - so Cowboys work well for that setting).

I fear my topic has took a turn for the worse :D

Thanks for the link Ross, that is a nice looking table.

Bit the bullet today and ordered some of the Artizan miniatures, hopefully they should arive in time for some holiday painting time! (Will also be uploading a whole host of PA stuff in the holidays too - busy busy busy ^_^ ).

Looking into some buildings... I'm thinking card buildings for the time being, possibly moving to handmade stuff out of lolly sticks!

Yes - i must be nosey on this point :) - What figures did you get? i sit here surrounded by foundry plains wars cavalry which are set to end up as VSF confederates, so its not too far removed from what I'm doing...

I actually had a blast playing in a "Legend's Of the Old West" Demo at my LGS about two years back. I purchased a batch of the Artizen's Cowpoke's, a copy of "LotOW", and haven't had a game since... Typical :-(

Two Hour Wargames offers a free PDF of the first release of "Six Gun Sound" through the Yahoo Group: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/twohourwargames

Cool, keep us updated chief.

Paddlepop sticks work well, I'd avoid using balsa wood as it's a little too soft and can warp horribly when painted.

If you google 'Westamunda' there are some rules that have turned Necromunda into a Wild West game.

edit:this is the link

Also tried some construction:

(Building is a freebie from Whitewash City... trying to find some free ones before I buy any plans from them)

Going to get them painted up soon, so I can get on gaming!

I'm thinking on expanding slightly... into a semi steampunk theme, a la "Wild Wild West"/BTTF 3 style. I have a couple of Warmachine 'Jacks lying around (Thanks for the inspiration from the VSF thread)... I'll see what I can do. :P

They're looking good!

I'm glad the VSF thread was of interest :P Stay posted... I've got ~60 confederates on my desk to do for a VSF army, plus some assorted old west stuff! (also have a look at Ravenfeast's AKA Al's "Rivets & steam" site - it should be linked from his signature bar, and provided a lot of my insperation over the years.) If you are looking for a dedicted VSF/steampunk rules set, I'm more than happy to give advice as I've tried a few of them now...
