Tanx ! With pleasure (otherwise you don 't embark on such an enterprise). If you want more check out the pics with the rest of my sci-fi scenery in the 'Terrain' section. Greetings, Bobscene Edited by Bobscene, Sep 12 2017, 05:21 PM.

I can't get enough of your work, dude. Great stuff as always. You have the same approach as me when it comes to terrain making, you just have more energy than I do! |

Thanks for the kind word johnmonster71, appreciate it. But I have to contradict you and that last part of me having more energy. Actually I am very lazy, and being lazy I search all the time for easy solutions. The tubes I found fitted by themselves, tie raps are fast and easy, hot glue is tricky for glueing plastics but with the right prep it can work fast, the technique with the moulds I use because like this I don't have to do the same job over and over again (like making doors f.i. I now have molds for maybe 10 different door types), painting was mostly done with spray can and splashed some watered down paint on it. See...there is a pattern in the madness. |

That's not lazy, that's smart. I've done a bit of casting and mold making, mostly full scale stuff like sculpting halloween masks and making hydrocal molds for pouring latex. I'm going to look into your method with silicone and cornstarch. I looked for the gutter screens you used but could not find them. I use hot glue for assembly sometimes but mostly for the unseen interiors so I can glop it on thick. I think I've seen some embossed rivets on your vehicles from another thread, can you shed some light on the way you embossed them? |

Again I feel I must contradict you ... it's more like looking for easy solutions by: reading articles on sites like this one having fun in experimenting a lot ('thinking with my hands') in this manner find the technique that fits my style (for me that is easy, cheap and as fast as possible without to much loss of detail or strength) And I'm also good at not bothering, f.i. big globs of glue don't bother me (especially since I'm 'specialized' in ruins) I go for the big overall effect/idea (rather make a whole town not perfect then one perfect building) In making rivets I use nothing fancy either, I'm sure you've seen this before. *The usual hole puncher (works on burger tray/food packaging plastic, don't push to hard as not to puncture the plastic) or *I use some blunted awls (freehand) ![]() Your explanation on casting your sculpts sounds interesting. I sure would like to see your masks. Masks are, amongst other (puppets, scenery, small design, comix), one of my favorite objects to make. Not sure, however, if the cornstarch/silicone moulds will release the latex (without releasing agent), never tried it before (latex is to chemical/technical and expensive (?) for my style of work = I am art teacher for children so 'poisonous' or expensive techniques are not as interesting, I try to work with everyday materials) I bought the gutter screen at : BRICO (I live in Belgium, near France), next time I am in the shop I'll try to remember to note down the manufacturer. That's cool. The Ironhands website (Necromundicon) has, under the tips and tricks link, a rivet embossing method I aim to try that uses a 1/16th inch hole punch, slightly modified. I have an extra punch to modify so I plan to go at it soon. The 1/16th hole punch was made for scrapbooking, is pretty cheap, and makes great loose rivets for gluing on to things. I would not use the silicone/starch compound for latex. Hydrocal plaster is best because it is micro-porous and helps pull water from the latex. I am a costumer and propmaker for a local haunted house attraction and have sculpted, molded, and made about 5 masks and a few costume components from latex. You're right about this site and others being a good resource, I've learned a lot in the last few years. Thanks for the info. Ciao, John |

The Ironhands website is one of my all time favorites, it got me inspired and going in many ways ! And he 's a real nice chap also, I once send him an e-mail with some of my early 40K buildings and he was kind enough to reply with an enthusiastic mail. Could you share some pictures of your haunted house costumes or masks ? After all there surely most be walking dead among them, that' s P.A. |

I'd be glad to share some pictures but it might be best done in another thread that is not Terrain specific. I don't want to give the boss an excuse to put me back on latrine duty! |
