Progress today, been detailing 'the factory' the only building (so far ?) in this build. All the white parts are moulds. ![]() ![]()

Well Rych, glad to be of some distraction from the Rat-raoch shooting. I finished 'the factory'. Some other parts left to build before the painting though. The toxic pool, the blue platform, some more skull detailing on the walkways, some loose ends here and there... ![]() ![]() |

Again, a lot of pictures. But this time the build is finished. Well... that is to say... Necromunda is not only about: an under-hive serving the upper-class with factories and waste disposal, it 's not only walkways and platforms, mostly, and what is visually even more appealing, it 's about chaos, anarchy, battle and survival. Until now I builded the 'official structures' but now I want to add the sci-fi shanty town that has grown upon this infrastructure. This build is already massive in scale. So I made it that the whole thing comes apart in 5 pieces (actually 6 cause the tower of the factory can also be removed). I would build, for storage reasons mainly, this shanty apart from the structures but I still has to looks as if it has 'grown upon it'. That is the challenge I have to ponder before moving ahead with this one... ![]() ![]() The toxic waste pool was a quicky. I did not have any fluo green. I did have a spray can with fluo yellow. So I first sprayed some yellow in the pot an added some blue paint to mix some sort of green. Then I added clear silicone (the cheap one I also use for the moulds, the one that smells like vinegar) and mixed in some clear fluorescent paint. I did this mixing with a plastic spoon. Because of this mixing a lot of air bubbles came and I was afraid the result would not be transparant enough. So I finished with an other layer of clear silicone. I cleaned the spoon with a cloth and dipped it in water soap solution (to stop the silicone from sticking to the spoon) with this spoon I smoothed out the surface. To finish off I put some 'bubbles' on top (when the hot glue guns stands there being hot but not being used it drips small blobs of glue now and then , I saved these blobs and put them in as finishing touch (not that you can notice on the foto's). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Think I will add some scatter to this terrain before painting it. Some iron paneling, some random riveting maybe some battle damage or vandalized parts... I'll keep you posted if any progress, until then, ciao, Bobscene |

The painting of the Hive work will make the build incredible! Those gears in the main structure will give it a true mechanical/industrial feel. |

Ok... now the build is finished, that is to say: there is always more but... here it ends, for now. My gusto is gone, so beter to stop here. I thought it was to clean so I added some shanty's, make-shift platforms, added some repair patches here and there. ![]() The shanty's can come apart from the platforms. I intend(ed) to make more but stoped here. I can always add some later. The scatter is not fixed to the base. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also made a gate for the factory. It can open because it' s like a wall, self-standing, so you can slide it back to open. ![]() This is how the whole thing comes apart. Ready for paint ! (better buy some new cans cause maybe I'll need more then one) ![]() |

Tanx guy's, glad you find it instructive Tinker, I just want to return some of the things I learned via sites like this one (and have some fun doing it). Progress, there is some paint on it ! I needed almost 1 liter of mat black to cover it... Then I did some grey spraying mainly on the tubes. And finished today with some 'terracotta' (the closest I could find to rust color). This finishes the spray painting, everything else is by brush, and I'm gonna need some large brushes. Oh Yeah got a question for Tinker, when you eat the rat-on-a-stick is the rat still supposed to be wiggling ??? ![]() ![]() |

Ok, next time I put the stick between the rat's eyes. It' s just that I don' t like my food biting back at me. But I understand, at least this way nobody can complain it 's not fresh. Back on topic. I put on some 'Copper' color. I don 't have to explain dry-brush to any of you I suppose. Most of you paint better then me I'm sure. Cause I think it looks like my grandmother' s clock like this, but of course, more layers paint/wash to follow. I still have to do 'copper' on the other half. But not on the shanty' s, the fancy copper is only for 'official empire' parts. ![]() |

Thanks for the support ! Small setback and color mistake. While painting the shanty fence and a supporting beam these items came loose. Hot glue does not bond smooth plastic on plastic very well. So usually I roughen up the surface with some sandpaper. Clearly this did not suffice (or I forgot). So I drilled some wholes where the glue will come. Now the bond is very strong. ![]() Then I put some acrylic 'lead' color onto the pipes. Mistake ! I wanted to give the building/factory a blue facade as the other building in the picture (actually the very first 40K building I ever made, guess about 4 years ago, funny cause in this build I also used parts of the same cheap plastic robot, not painted as detailled this time). Mistake cause I got the sequence wrong. Should have first painted the (background/base layer) blue and then the copper and lead details. Anyway to late now, so no color (in this part). In fact, as I type this, the painting is finished (not on the included foto's). This took the best part of this (sun)day. Alas no foto's yet. I will let you beg for them/ try to make some in the week to come. For the moment it is to dark. ![]() |

Ok ok I was only joking when I mentioned 'begging'. No need to hang me over the pit for that ! And yes I am grateful that it was not the mutant pit but believe me the latrine pit was live threatening enough ! So voluntary and with pleasure I share with you guy' s (and girls ?) my, for now, finished Necromunda build. Of course some work still needs to be done but I am not the type to fiddle around with details, I go for big and fast. That 's the way I constructed and painted this big thing, fast, cause I know if I let it drop, well... I'll hardly pick it up again. After the acrylic metal color I made and applied a few washes (a bit premature because I did not paint the rust or other details). I took some red-brown, some sand color and some black, a big brush (2 cm wide) and a lot of water to dilute the acrylic paint. Then I simply smeared the watered down colors quite randomly. I used mostly black then brown and the brightest color (orange made with the sand yellow) I used sparse. Because the wash was so watery it flowed down and made natural looking rust streaks. Not so good: because it was so watered down the effect was minimal and I should paint in some more rust patches they are a bit to 'uniform' to my taste. I could also have colored some of the shanties in chipped paint, or fluo-colored some (hot glue) dripping from the busted pipes,... but I will not. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you pull this skull (fixed to a rod) the tower can be removed. ![]() The skull is also a balcony. ![]() ![]() ![]() The fluo toxic fluid is also glow in the dark. ![]() ![]() ![]() The shanties are not fixed to the Necrom-build, neither is the scatter fixed to the base. I 've got molds for the boxes, barrels and other stuff but forgot to make some of the tires. ![]() ![]() My initial plan to rebuild my already existing (boring) 'Infinity' scenery failed, except for the 'factory tower' everything is newly build. Once I discovered the piping I knew these were too good not to use. But I am happy with how it all turned out, the coherence of the piece make it a credible, I think. And it fits well with some of my favorite scenery I made before. Hope you don' t mind so many pictures cause I am planning on taking some more with the rest of my sci-fi/Necromunda/wasteland scenery and post them in the 'Terrain' section. Until then, ciao, Bobscene |
