Hopefully nothing much, worst case: complete Necromunda table.

Hey,

since I've heard about the return of the Necromunda I've been fantasizing about building an under hive.
Well more then fantasizing... I also been rummaging my collection of 'terrain building stuff'.
No pictures yet, I 'll post some later.

I 've got about 32 (been counting them) of those plastic stackable crates (don't know their name in English) filled to the brim with al sorts of junk/old toys/...
Because of the lack of storage I want to rebuild my already build (Infinity) scenery rather then to build a complete new table.
Because of lack of time I hope this thread won't be about a complete table anyway but rather about 'small touch ups'.
Nevertheless I selected about 5 crates of 'possible Necromunda pieces' so...

But... tomorrow I leave until Sunday.
I 'll keep you posted if any progress,

ciao,
Bobscene

So here it start 's not sure where it will end...

Posted Image

I found these toy parts take make some moulds of.

Trains, a train bridge, some railings of an 'autobahn' some electro parts, some walls, rubble and even barricades from the game "Mars attacks' and ... !!! ... some original Necromunda bulck heads ( a loan from a friend of mine). He also lended me some smaller 40K figure parts such as big guns but not sure if my mould technique will allow such small detail ???

We 'll find out later,
until then,

And that is only the tip of the junk pile !

Spotted this building today,

preparing to mould

Posted Image

First I cover the table with a plexiglass plate, then you will need a pair of (cotton) gloves, clear silicone, cornflour, and some spatula,

Posted Image

Forgot to mention an important tool: a bottle to roll the dough flat.

Posted Image

Mix about equal amounts of both ingredients, like a bakker would mix his dough, if too wet and sticky ad cornflour, if too dry and crumbling ad silicone.

Posted Image

You can work about 20 minutes with the moulding dough, then it becomes to hard and does 't take details as good anymore.

Posted Image

I leave them to dry overnight before de-moulding then.

So ... till next time,
ciao,

Bobscene

My pleasure gentlemen,

here are the results of the moulds.

These ones failed.
All things to small and narrow such as spikes on a fence or railings or buttresses don 't work.
First the moulding material gets in between, this is not a problem as such cause this can be removed with a sharp knife.
But when I pour the hot glue inside the mould it spils and it is time consuming to remove the 'flash'.

Posted Image

Details are alright. I have decided not to use the Necromunda moulds because until now I never used any 'commercial' bits in my builds and I want to keep it this way. It' s more of a challenge this way.

Posted Image

Crates, barrels, barricades, small details : vents, side boards of train,...these turned out allright.

Posted Image

I like the hatches, for details like this moulding comes in handy.

Cool, how do they paint up?

@ Mattblackgod: they paint like normal plastic bits, you also need to spray them with a plastic primer first.

Thoughts on my Necromunda build.
If it is an 'under hive' it will have an industrial feel with lots of 'service' tubing for the 'upper world'.
So I collected some tubes. These also could become walkways.

I aded a couple of water guns. I bought these a while ago because they where so cheap and had a nice Sci-fi feel to them.

The black 'building' part I found on the streets, looks like it was the 'motor' of a child tractor tricycle.

This could be the beginning of a Necromunda build, but ... vacation is over and I don't know if I' ll have time to continue regularly.

But if I do you will be the first to see !

Looks great.

How do you melt the glue sticks? Gun or do you melt them in a pan?

Well, depends on how big a cast you want to make.

Small details as the vents and barrels can be done with one glue-gun.

Bigger pieces such as the Necromunda bulkheads you will need two.

I lay the moulds flat and fill them like a printer, meaning I start at the top and go left and right and work my way 'downwards'.
Each new layer covering half the previous one, so that you don't pour the hot glue onto the mould (as not to get to many air bubble's) but onto the previous layer so that the hot glue keeps flowing and gets 'pushed' in little corners.

If I want to fill really big moulds, like a facade on my Mordheim builds I use 3 hot glue guns. With 3 guns you can fill moulds non-stop. If not non-stop you get ugly lines in your cast.

When cutting wholes or doing touch-ups I use the hot-glue (now cold of course) clippings (left overs).

And when I have a really really big mould (like a cobble stone road f.i.). I pour all these left overs in a pot and heat them carefully (normally you should do it 'au Bain Marie') cause when it' s boiled it of course gets to many air bubble's, and pour the hot glue from the pot into the mold (this stinks a bit, so do it outside or well ventilated).

This is todays progress on my Necromunda build. Tubes, tubes, tubes (and some tie-raps)

Thanks for the details. I may have to give this a try one day.

The Necromunda set is looking good.

There are a lot of trees around my house. So I needed something to keep the leaves out of my gutter.
These I got left.

Posted Image

Necromunda is not only pipes it' s even more platforms and walkways.

And these 'gutter-things' are perfect !
You can make ladders out of them, easily cut them with scissors, and they even have pre-manufactured folding lines !

Now it 's starting to look 'Necromundian', still a lot of work and so little time...
I notice myself rushing this project, doubtful if that' s a good thing. On the other hand, that 's the way the cookie crumbles.

Engulfed by work I'm left with little time for a hobby.
This is what I managed to do yesterday.

Made some moulds of: robot wings, a big skull, some technical details (even more tubes).
And... some vents found on a Hotwheels track.
Once I saw a nice piece of scenery made with Hotwheels-toy bash.
Suddenly I realized we have almost the same piece.
Since my son is turning 16, he doesn't play Hotwheels anymore, but I did not want to damage a good toy (rather give it to the neighbor boys) so I took a mold.

Big ventilators, they will come in handy,... if ever I get to detailing this thing... :frustry:

Yeah great way to save time, otherwise I would not have the patience for details.

Did the first detailing today, although the structural work is not finished yet.
But to keep motivation I needed to do something else.

Things may be hard to see on the pics cause of the white.
