Steam hot rod; same old technique ...

Hey,

Posted Image
So I bought these yesterday at a resale shop. 4 cars, 2 euro, and all the wheels I need.

At the right the piece as I originally intended it. But as you can see this turned out to big.
So I went searching in my collection of toys for a smaller steam boiler. And I found it. A while ago a neighbor donated me his small train collection, knowing this could come handy in one of my miniature projects. But this one turned out to small.

So I combined pieces of the two and was content with this combination which seemed to fit well.

I glue everything with hot glue, the fastest way to glue things. The wheels can still turn. To make the axels I put some iron wire inside a plastic tube (ear cleaning thingy) glued the iron wire to the wheels and the plastic rod to the chassis.

Even found a steam exhaust pipe in my collection of old toys

Here the build is finished, the spikey thing on the front can still easily snap on and of.

Compared to the others to check the size...seems ok.

What do you think ?

In a PA environment steam makes a lot of sense. Glad to see this form of locomotion get it's dues with your mini. Looking forward to the finished view.

So here it is,
painting finished, for now...

Maybe I'll re-try later cause can 't say I'm very happy with it.
Just managed not to f*** it up completely.

The idea was to use copper and white tiers for the retro feel.
Once with the white I thought this would go well together with the checkered pattern, so I did.
The 'pin striping' on the wheel covers failed.

At the bottom on the back there's a box to drop mines (Rush 'n Crush, remember ?)

On this forum I found the tip of using fake tattoo for decals. An extra skull would be nice. It 's a bit dull now.

Wow thank you Tinker and Mattblackgod,

praise coming from the 2 of you really means a lot cause you must guys have seen a trilion PA builds by now.
It's a shame (on P.B.) that a lot of the pictures on this site were 'killed' and are no longer available.
Still...the site has been an important source of inspiration to me.

My next build, however, was inspired by a photo in the newspaper...
More in my next post tomorrow,

Ciao,
Bobscene
