Wanted to build something small.
I mentioned before that I 'd like to play Rush 'n Crush with my conversions. We are 3 players so I need to build 6 cars. 6 small cars...

Posted Image

So I got some stuff together and wanted to build one really from scratch. I found the hull of a boat, this could become the body. The seats I got left from the truck in my 'War rig' build. I imagined it like an overpowered soapbox. But... one big problem...I was missing 1 wheel, and I have no more spare wheels left.

I still had this truck, all his wheels where intact... maybe it could become a sort of 'camp on a truck'. A truck with everything a wasteland nomad needs. Water, shelter, stock, including a fast and armored car, maybe a decontamination room or other equipment ?
Just tossing some things together, checking which parts could be used...

My saw with the small teeth is smiling at me...

This is going to be interesting. A real junker.

Extra fuel is a bonus. How about a steam engine in the truck? Any fuel will do.

Started with the 'technical part' = some toy electro motor + some stock = barrels, cans, pots,...

Posted Image
You probably recognize small part of a toy crane (most parts I already used in other builds), the shack is the top of a Lego box and the door is a milk carton lid.

Posted Image
On the first floor some shelter. I had to widen the door en make the building taller
The roof of the second floor is the roof of a plastic boat (actually wrong scale but the details are right scale) then again... an inflatable ring on a truck ??? The water (or fuel ?) tank is of course Marklin (trains)
@ Mattblackgod concerning steam power, I'm planning on making a steam powered dragster, sometime, later...

Posted Image
To make painting easier (but not the building) I made it, for now, that the hole thing can still come apart.

Posted Image
It looked to clean like some kind of glamping-car, so I added patches of 'sheet metal' (more to follow)

Posted Image
Started to make some bulletholes, still lots of 'damage' to 'inflict'.

Posted Image
Lower the bridge, drive the car inside, fight of the zombies en climb onto the blue platform to safety, easy...
maybe ad some barbed wire.

Posted Image
What's more ? Some protection for the wheels, try to make some decent barrels, more fencing, more weapons (also on the Mercedes), see if I can find something to use for ladders (building them takes to much time), ...

Until next time,
greetings,
Bobscene

It is a good looking build. Keep it coming.

Steam dragster? I look forward to seeing that!

@ Mattblackgod, actually I meant steam hot rod, not dragster. The shape of a steam boiler fist more a dragster. But that is for later...

Back to camping PA-style.

@ Tinker: I must admit having some experience in repurposing materials (I made costumes, furniture, lampshades,..., and scenery this way) and I have a big pile of scrap which I collected for building miniatures purposes (although no more wheels, so before building any more car conversions I'll have to scavenge some secondhand markets). After all this time you get 'an eye' for shapes (of things) f.i. yesterday this plastic packaging struck me as the perfect material for beams and iron paneling.

Posted Image
Extra this plastic can be cut with scissors, scratched, melted, punctured,...)

Posted Image
So I added fences

Posted Image
Protection for the wheels. I replaced the flash lights with gun turrets

Keep you updated,
Ciao,
Bob

I didn't do anything fancy with this car conversion.
I couldn't because it still has to fit inside the truck.
Everything 's more or less ready for painting now.

First I used clear plastic primer in a spraycan.
Then Matt black.

Finished !

painted it using regular acrylic paint (actually a cheap version, next time I' ll go for more quality paint because of brush strokes). Acrylic paint dries very fast so you can keep on painting.
Started with white details: the lamps, inflatable ring, the water tank.
Then put some lead color on most parts, especially those parts which are supposed to be new and so still shiny (poles or replacement patches) others may be still shiny because of material used, f.i. aluminium. (this contrast unfortunately got lost in the dust-fase).
Then I did the rust patches, mixed up brown , red and yellow (to get all sorts of rust-orange), put the rust at the bottom and in crevices.
Then a black wash (again using acrylic paint but heavily diluted with water this time).
And then I tried something new for weathering cause this time I used concrete powder. Never used it before so I sprayed some glue on the thing, got my sieve and shook a few times....OOOPS ... the concrete powder is so fine that the whole bunch of it fel through the sieve in one shake ...resulting in way to much 'dust' (If you compare it to my other post apocalyptic builds, so now I'll probably have to 'extra dust' the others also).

The whole thing can still come apart, this time for stockage purposes. The crate is not glued either.
Extra: the first floor can be used as settlement without the truck also.

Painting is certainly not my strongest point but I'm happy with how it all turned out. On the Mercedes (picture below) I gave the door a different color so that it seems to have been replaced.
I did not paint the figure in the picture, he does not fit because he is to shiny.

Is there anybody out there who can sell me some nice PA figures ? Preferably humans, not mutants or 40K space-marines. I live in Belgium so I suppose that sending them from Australia is not such a good idea.

As I mentioned before, I'm planning on converting at least 2 more small vehicles, but first I will have to look for some wheels because my stock (of my son his former toys) is plundered.

C 's and Q 's are welcome,
ciao,
Bobscene

Good work. The great thing about PA is you don't need to get perfect paint jobs. The more patchy the more worn the model looks. Anything can be fixed with a little rust coloured paint.

What sort of minatures are you after? Painted or unpainted? Plastic, resin metal?

If you want unpainted we can point you in the direction of lots of suppliers.

Tanx Crazy Joe !

@ Mattblackgod: I prefer very much painted because of my bad eyesight and lack of patience.
Plastic, resin or metal does not matter, prize matters more.
And yeah that 's one of the things I like about PA/ruins you can work sloppy and, also important, fast.
