Turned a bunch of foam into dust and roughed out terrain piece this weekend.

Still lots to do, but made a lot of progress.

Thanks, it is inspired by the formations at Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, the location of filming the mine scene in Galaxy Quest.

I made some pieces based on photos from a visit there some years ago:

Also made some of the smaller formations,

More pics of these at:

Goblin Valley

Anyway, I plan on having some wasteland inhabitants on top of this thing, as well as adding some more smaller formations.

Cool!

Never would have guessed they were based on a real place!

You nailed it

If I ever get back to Utah I gotta go there.

After a month of long work weeks and no energy in the evenings, I finally got down the basement last night and more or less completed the shaping of the foam. Reshaped some of the rocks a little and added in the crevices. Doesn't look tremendously different, but I'm so excited that I actually got to work on it that I'm posting pics anyway.

Next I will coat it with acrylic paste, paint it to match my other Goblin Valley pieces, and add the post-apoc apartment on top.

It's been awhile, but I finally got back to the basement this weekend, and made some progress on my terrain piece. Here are a couple photos of the painted terrain piece:

There are step by step photos, showing the evolution from block of foam to painted rock on my blog if interested:

The next step is to add the post-apoc penthouse to the top of the thing. Got a good start on it today, but imagine it will be a month or so, before I finish.

Thanks for looking.

Looking forward to seeing it with PA structures on it. Before I read your comments I was thinking how cool it would look to have wooden scaffling going up the side of it.

I agree the wooden scaffolding will be a fantastic feature.

Well, it has been slow, but I'm making some progress on the doo-dads:

There is a bunch of stuff that I'd like to do that would make it look cool, but would also make it more fragile and hard to manage. Debating on how far to go with it right now. Probably going to start painting stuff up and see how it looks, then decide how much more to add.
