I'm scared of it to be honest. I mean the first two (No. 2 more than No.1) were the best games I've ever played, I'm not sure the changed gameplay will make the game better or worse.

The release date is too near Fall In! --> http://www.fall-in.org/ to allow such frivolous expenditures of limited funds on items like video games. That would be less money to spend at the convention flea market! Think of the children!!! ;)

I'll eventually pick it up, but not for a while.

I kinda am too. I started playing fallout 2 again a few weeks ago to reminisce... and it is an amazing game. I think Fallout 3 will still be good, but not on the same lines as 1/2. I think I'll pick it up in a few weeks, depends how funds turn out :P

I preordered it as soon as it was possible. For the first time in a long time have I ever bitten into the hype about a game. And well, even if it doesn't match up to Fallout 3 in terms of game play, then I'll at the very least get a very good PA FPS game :D

Pre ordered it and have been playing ever since! Well until today when I gave the disc to my wife so she could hide it and I could get some work done :)

Fallout 1 & 2 are my favorite games of all time. Fallout 3 is definitely not worse but at the same time not better it's just a new interpretation of our favorite game franchise. The story is solid and just as engaging as the old ones and the game play has evolved into the first person mode rather than feeling like they just made a shooter and called if Fallout.

The only hang up I can see is getting used to how you get around in the game. There were some parts I was really missing my top down view for some of the "dungeons" as it were but the once I got used to the waypoint system and using the mini map I get around fine.

The designers did a stellar job creating the world. You feel like you're in a wasteland. Ammo and supplies can be tough to build up unless your mindful, firefights aren't run and gun shooters and feel more real and desperate as cover really seems to do something in this game and the vast expanse of wasteland to explore and discover is more rewording as you are seeing the landscape for yourself as opposed to a world map.

Buy it now, buy it later, just so long as you buy it. Then *cross your fingers* we'll see Fallout 4 etc.

Is the game and exploration all plot line driven? Or can you wander about in your own time just exploring and doing good (?) in a vicious fashion?

There is a plot, but you can ignore it and do your own thing.......i've done the good guy thing and now i'm trying out the evil slaver route.

The game is mostly exploring, scavenging food and equipment, while fending of attacks from animals, raiders, enclave, super mutants and pre-war robots etc and trading with the settlements.

Edit: Oh, and Ghouls of course..........creepy as hell, when you hear a feral ghoul behind you as you stalk though a tunnel. :'( :P

Welcome aboard Praetor :)

You make it sound very tempting (not that as the third in the franchise is wasn't already ;) ), I remember playing some Half Life2 mods and thinking how cool it would be to play it like Fallout (or have a version like Fallout).

It's a good game, the main storyline is short and ends the game which is a problem.....but you can almost finish the storyline (unlock some areas which you can only access through the main storyline) and then get back to exploring and trying to survive which is the main strength of the game. I'm still finding areas I didn't find the first time. :)

Praetor has it exactly right. It's very open ended with LOTS to explore. I'm definitely taking a picture of the map before I finish the game so I can check them off when I go through again and make sure to find all the other little spots.

Succumbed and bought the game :$

Loving it at the moment, I'm trying to avoid the main story as much as possible and explore the wasteland (with a friend!):

It looks sooooo cool. One of the reasons I like the STALKER game was it was open ended (until you got to the Reactor site/end missions) and could wander exploring. I will start dropping BIG hints to Laura for Christmas! :D

Are those the big subtle hints of dargging her into the PC gaming shop and point at it whilst shouting 'WANT ONE!'?
