Well just thought i'd say hi and what not. I'm an englishman in exile in the Mark of the Danes, and been a wargamer for a good long while, approx 17years now. I was brought up on Rogue Trader, and having lost interest in 40k after it became all 'kiddie' I've dabbled in other bits and pieces here and there, notable right now FoW, Inquistitor, Warhammer Ancients and my own home cooked brew Post-Apoc/Sci-fi, though with a healthy dose of Bloodbowl as it is the funniest game out there! But anyway just thought I'd say hi to you all!

I use 28mm, my back ground is fairly vague at the moment, but something along the lines of a super-virus killing the majority of mankind, and green-nature having taken over again. But other than that pretty vague... it's abit 'Day of the Triffids'/'I am Legend' like.

So lots of intact buildings and stuff then? What sort of timescale? Months, years, decades, centuries?

Ooooh! Day of the Triffords, that movie creeped me out as a kid, there was a big plant in the back yard I'd never go anywhere near after watching it (it had a similar above ground root system thing to the triffords :D ).

Your nature returned sounds like it'd be a wicked table! I can imagine buildings covered in vines, car parks cracked with grass growing through them.... cool!

Welcome aboard man ;)

As I said its pretty vague, but set somewhere in the mid/late 21st century so there has been a development in energy weaponry, and alternative energy sources. I've also played around with the idea of a alien ship crash landing having lost its way, bringing a technological break through as they trade technology for help/resources etc and the plague/virus erupts afterwards probably as a mutation of mixed earth/alien bacteria decimating both races and oldly enough also ticks (who needs the things anyway?). But I'm still not too sure about that yet, but its mostly to get some use out of the masses of GW Eldar models I have lying around.

Welcome aboard - it sounds like a pretty neat background idea, and we've yet to have any thing like it discussed!

Yeah much of the inspiration comes from 'Day of the triffids', i love that book and its a good variation on the post-apocalyptics theme that does get so much coverage, I'd love to get zombie/mutants in there but as I don't have any models to cover them it doesn't matter so much. I've been mainly using Rogue Trader and Inquisitor to cover my actions so far, but when I get my own rules into a more finished state I think I'll be using them. I'm trying to convince some guys at my local club to give the old Rogue Trader rules a try, but without luck at the moment, they're mostly still onto FoW as their journey out of GW's edition race and codex creep begins.

I like =I= as an operating system - i've almost converted it for modern & steampunk settings several times. Which bits are you planning to 'borrow' for use in your game?

the rules I've built around D10 rolls as it allows for more variety. I also like to open ended range system that =I= has and I've yet to work out how to build something similiar into the system without it getting pretty complicated like =I='s system. I've also borrowed the action point system which is great for getting flks to think more. I've also taking to 'to hit' concept from FoW, but altered it a little, but I like that its harder to hit better quality troops than low class troops. Then I've also used a fairly standard 'weapon strength vs armour+D10' for injury. I'm still working on command and control for adding grunts into the game and not really touched the vehicle department just yet. When I've got something in a working order I'll put it up for comments.

Hey - if your alien virus can wipe out animal fleas too we would be happy! :D It would save us a fortune every summer when the cats star bringing home unwelcome guests (and I dont mean the inlaws!). :D

Sounds a great idea and background. I have to admit to changing a background to suit the stocks of older mini's laying about in my collection. My old 40K Orks have seen action a few times as a falloutesq Super Mutant horde. In one campagin I had them flung into an alterantive universe and several thousand years into the past to terrorise my post apoc world! That was fun.

That is a nice idea
! You aren't the only one who has used orcs as super mutants - I've certainly done it. Afterall, they are bigger than normal humans, brawnier, less... uh..'academic' , & green!
