It is set in a small fertile strip of land which runs from the coast where the (new) Capitol is into the wastelands. There is ashwastes and desert all around the area. It is not known what caused the end of the world (called the event). All the survivors where underground when it happened. The story focuses on a Speical Forces (Savage) soilder who's personal mission is to save survivors from bands of scavengers (who live to rape and plunder) and bring them to his safe house (where he has a small group of professionals) and then to take the survivors to the Capitol. But its not that easy - he knows he is being watched by another special forces unit who are working for the Capitol and now there are scavengers moving in large bands and suddenly well armed. The Army is moving to wipe out the Scavs. Nearly all the terrain is Rural - so its not beyond the scope of most games clubs. Playingthis would suit small skirmish games with hero's (its often Savage Vs groups of Scavs) or a RPG. The book is well written and fast paced. But beware it is quite grim and savage in places. I recommend.
